  1. There are different corregidors for different areas, Deborah. Boquete's Corregiduria is on the second floor of the Alcaldia. Alto Boquete's was over by Amigos de Animales but I believe it's been moved. The referenced office was probably somewhere on Jaramillo.
  2. Other people's faiths are their business, and mine is my own. Why is a Bible study topic being discussed here? By the way, I like Wikipedia but as a reference it is only as good as the source providing the information.
  3. Prices of medications have found to be inflated in pharmacies of private hospitals. http://m.telemetro.com/nacionales/Acodeco-detecta-hospitales-privados-medicamentos_0_879512695.html
  4. It's hard not to criticize the inactions of AAC and the level of condescension that recent communications have shown to be prevalent. If I'm not mistaken the org. is no longer posting on Chiriqui Life because.. "on another forum some detractors of Alto al Crimen (the usual suspects, no longer on .ning so far as I know) responded to the news item introducing Franc Lugo with some questions and comments that appeared to be based on the assumption that the board of directors of Alto al Crimen just climbed down off a load of turnips and began administering a Panama foundation." As well, reports of criminal activity from any source need to be factual and not emotional, as is often the case.
  5. Agreed but if I'm not mistaken John, that's what AAC was supposed to be doing.
  6. Okay. I've ordered the DVD from Amazon. Do you provide the popcorn? Not wanting to go off-topic, but I have to add this sidebar: The write up about the DVD says it is about the slums of Rio. I've been there and seen it firsthand. Not a place I would live in (or even near). While reading the description of the DVD, I had a flashback to my first trip to the Rio area. It was a loooooooooong time ago. The newspaper headlines the morning after seeing the slums was of a girl of about 14 years age that had died the night before. She lived in a cardboard box, and had been eaten alive by rats. I am sure many people would discount a comparison of the slums of Rio to the situation here in our area. This story is not married to Rio de Janeiro. The theme of perpetual corruption of disadvantaged youth is repeated in tough neighbourhoods everywhere. There may not be too many slums around Boquete but there are plenty of rough areas in and around David, Panama City and Colon. The film is included on Amazon Prime if you're a subscriber. Nominated for 4 Academy Awards. 7. Pitifully, one of the "lessons learned" here, for me at least, is that any further support of AAC is a waste of time and money.
  8. A horrid event for the Moore's and a scary one for all of us. Fortunately, Richard survived the attack I wish him a speedy recovery from these injuries. He is an avid golfer. There is apparently plenty of evidence to assist investigators. Alto Al Crimen announced yesterday that they were aware of this violent crime but it's not in their purview to report it. "Alto al Crimen does not report just on the occurrence of a criminal event but looks into the details of how it took place so that people can implement security measures that reduce the chances of similar events. Think of our approach as "lessons learned" reports." As was pointed out to me this morning, it appears they haven't learned much in the last couple of years because nothing of this sort has been published.
  9. This is a preview of the documentary being broadcast tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m. on TVN concerning the events of January 9th, 1964. "The story that all of Panama should know" https://twitter.com/tvnnoticias/status/685482137248649216
  10. There was a Tweet from Noticias Chiriqui this afternoon reporting that a North American was injured during an armed assault by three men at his home in El Salto. I do not have complete confidence in this source. Recently he had the story wrong concerning Gentleman Jim Kimball's passing.
  11. Since it appears you folks are getting your water from a private source it wouldnt do much good to complain to City Hall. If this is the first increase you've had in many years, perhaps it's well justified.
  12. There is certainly no extra parking around the Machu Pichu restaurant. Clients of La Orquidea have nowhere to park now and the street is difficult to traverse during the lunch hour. The area cannot support another establishment, imo.
  13. Thanks for sharing, I find that the toughest thing about living here is losing friends. RIP
  14. Has anyone else noticed that many of the people who are homeschooling their children might benefit from some extracurricular help themselves? 'We are new to Boquete. We have a 13 year old daughter and 16 year old son.I personally checked out the International school. There are alot of fees not included in the tuition. The cost for the two would of been 750.00 a month. That did not include textsbooks (all books are new each year..they don't reuse).transportation from town is six dollars a day per child.I did not get uniform cost.I am still researching too. Will home school if I need too..lots of tutors in Boquete to help.Best to you!'
  15. When a government resolution is published in La Gaceta, it signifies that it has become 'the law of the land', so to speak. The first line of this resolution says 'Precios Maximos de Venta al Consumidor de Combusitibles Liquidos en Panama' or 'Maximum Consumer Prices of Liquid Fuels in Panama'. Roger Bellido can verify all of this but to the best of my knowledge, it is ACODECO who handles complaints.
  16. Fuel prices are regulated by the Secretariat of Energy and checked by Acodeco. Since they're adjusted every second Friday prices have usually changed at least once between most motorist's tank fillups. Of course, there's also the "sorry, no ladder available to change the sign" possibility. Here are the current prices until January 8th as published in the Gaceta Oficial and that's what the pumps need to be set at. The next adjustments are on the 8th and they'll probably be announced tomorrow. Usually published in La Estrella. http://laestrella.com.pa/panama/nacional/anuncian-nuevos-precios-combustible/23911748
  17. The price of fuel in Panama is set every two weeks based on supply costs and reserves on hand. The lowest prices per litre are in Panama City which increase slightly across the country based on distance from the tank farm there. We pay a few pennies more per litre here in Boquete to cover cost of transport as can be seen in this price list from an earlier period. This table shows the fluctuation of fuel prices in Panama over the last few years. http://www.latinol.com/portada/precios-gasolina-panama.asp Tabla de últimos 15 precios tope del combustible en Panamá Fecha 91 Octanos 95 Octanos Diesel sep 20, 2013 B/. 1.094 B/. 1.163 B/. 1.020 oct 4, 2013 B/. 1.028 B/. 1.086 B/. 1.06 oct 18, 2013 B/. 1.001 B/. 1.054 B/. 0.980 nov 1, 2013 B/. 1.004 B/. 1.054 B/. 0.991 nov 15, 2013 B/. 0.983 B/. 1.030 B/. 0.977 nov 29, 2013 B/. 0.954 B/. 1.009 B/. 0.954 oct 30, 2015 B/. 0.658 B/. 0.713 B/. 0.592 nov 13, 2015 B/. 0.634 B/. 0.682 B/. 0.571 nov 27, 2015 B/. 0.660 B/. 0.716 B/. 0.589 dic 11, 2015 B/. 0.618 B/. 0.663 B/. 0.555 dic 25, 2015 B/. 0.626 B/. 0.663 B/. 0.536 ene 8, 2016 B/. 0.626 B/. 0.658 B/. 0.483
  18. Best Wishes at New Year's are generally directed at another person's health and prosperity, and I pass them on to all. Mine often include a word or two about all of humanity living in peace and harmony, and I pass those on to you, too. Perhaps not my best, but maybe one of my better wishes this year, is for less acrimonious and non-productive content to be posted by all members of the local online community. I'm passing that on as well.
