  2. Just my opinion, but making public statements which denigrate others in response to a few questions about the organization and it's plans isn't going to win AAC any friends. On another forum some detractors of Alto al Crimen (the usual suspects, no longer on .ning so far as I know) responded to the news item introducing Franc Lugo with some questions and comments that appeared to be based on the assumption that the board of directors of Alto al Crimen just climbed down off a load of turnips and begain administering a Panama foundation. On the off chance that some others may have similar questions, I am posting my reply on this forum also.
  3. Woody, Dan, your points are well taken. If we feel their programs are beneficial to the community we too will continue to support AAC. Efforts being made are appreciated. However, we were all put in a position where we were forced to make a choice about Emergency Hotline service and ours was made using the same criteria that I would use to contract any other professional. ie: ability, experience, and value for services offered. From the outset I have been hesitant to get involved in discussions concerning AAC because of the controversial manner in which the RD startup was handled.
  4. Someone asked me to clarify my statement. What it means is that we'll be signing up with Rodny. He's answered and handled promptly and efficiently at least four or maybe five emergency distress calls that I've made on behalf of others these last few years. Before making that choice we thought it fair to wait for AAC to get re-organized and assess the service the organization would be offering. In hindsight, anything short of a reconciliation or amalgamation with Rodny would have no doubt prompted the same decision for us.
  5. Yes Paula, the news report was wrong on every count. The deceased was a well known friend, Jim Kimball, affectionately known as Gentleman Jim. Although he wasn't discovered until last night, it seems he probably passed on Christmas Eve. A friendly but quiet fellow, Jim genuinely cared about others and was always asking after one acquaintance or another. He lived a very humble life here, first above the old Amigos until it became Baru and then afterwards over Roxan's salon. Jim and I had both been in Costa Rica before coming to Panama and he liked to tell people that at one point "we shared the same crooked lawyer". Admirably, Jim lived quietly from his savings. He told me he never collected Social Security, believing that if he didn't need the money, it was best left for others who did. We think he knew that his time was short but aren't sure what preparations he may have made, if any. Several of us are making inquiries, as we know he had a sister. RIP my friend.
  6. The announcement provides the information I need to make a choice of service. Thanks.
  7. There is a Tweet this morning that an extranjero died last night while dining in a local restaurant. En Boquete, en un restaurante un extranjero falleció al momento de estar comiendo, Ministerio Público investiga. RIP
  8. Went by there this morning and did not see the dogs out. i am going to hazard a guess that the corregedora said someone should find homes for the dogs before someone in the neighbourhood poisons them.
  9. The first satellite surgical unit in Chiriqui was inaugurated in Volcan to perform hernia and cataract surgeries. What could go wrong?
  10. This report says that 458 homicides in Panama have been registered this year to date, representing a 22.5% decrease from the same period a year ago, In Chiriqui however, 42 homicides have been registered to date, reflecting an increase of 39% over last year. The Minister of Security says his goal is to reduce the current national homicide rate of 11.5 per 100,000 inhabitants to 10.0 in 2016, and 7.0 after the installation of a national security camera network. - See more at: http://www.prensa.com/judiciales/Homicidios-Panama-reducen-Chiriqui-crecen_0_4375812510.html#sthash.iXI1nT5K.dpuf
  11. It is illegal to sell dog or cat meat in the United States but 44 states allow its personal consumption. What this means is you can humanely kill and eat a dog or cat but you can't sell it at a restaurant or supermarket. Indian reservations are exempt from such restrictions. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news/man-bites-dog-its-legal-to-eat-dogs-and-cats-in-44-states-101714.html

  13. Why is it that no one ever says they want some 'real, authentic' Mexican food like they serve in Mexico City or Guadalajara?
  14. If politicians were running the judiciary we would all be in trouble, and just because RM's whereabouts are known doesn't mean he can be picked up. In order to avoid the appearance of political persecution, every effort is being made to follow establish correct procedure in this case, for which there are no precedents. Every appeal has been heard, every opportunity to appear has been given. The very people he appointed to the Supreme Court are the ones who are indicting him. This is only the first of six cases pending, btw.
  15. Couple of RM quotes today that demonstrate his attitude. "I will go in the appropriate political moment or after the tyrant exits": Martinelli Ricardo Martinelli ‏@rmartinelli 4m4 minutes ago Without any proof nor being mentioned, syndicared ,notified or accused I am being seek by Panama funny political judicial system. Poor Pty
  16. The decision by Panama's CSJ to issue an arrest warrant for ex-President Martinelli doesn't necessarily mean we'll be seeing him back here in Panama anytime soon. He's still belligerently Tweeting and Instant Messaging his claims of innocence and persecution to anyone who will listen.
  17. No trial yet. The wheels of justice move slowly here and neither side appears to be in a big rush to get this case over with. Assembling and preparing the forensic evidence alone could take years. Holbert knows he's done and when convicted will spend the rest pf his life in la casa grande at LaJoya. He would probably rather remain in David as long as possible where he plays the big fish in a small pond.
  18. You will just need a lab test to determine blood type only, Bill. A Doctor's statement of good health is not required for folks under the age of 70. There are several Doctors of Internal Medicine in David who provide letters with minimal examination for septuagenarians.
