  1. When there's no prices on the menu it means I can't afford to eat there.
  2. Kids are back to school today so please drive carefully.
  3. Flying with Air Panama from David is a bargain at the moment, about $60 return p.p. Arrival is at 8:00 a.m. which allows for a full day, as does the 6:00 p.m. departure time. More time to play. No gas, no parking, no water taxi.
  4. "Hello, this is ____ in tech support" usually means I'm dealing with someone in Mumbai.
  5. Looks like the tourists were the recipients of some special hospitality afterwards
  6. The President got a first hand look at the crime problem in Panama when he was driving by just as this punk pulled a stickup on some tourists. His security team made the bust. http://www.tvn-2.com/nacionales/Varela-asaltante-robo-delincuencia_0_4424557571.html
  7. Doug, you are correct. It's about shelter from the elements. btw, I have seen them stop cars coming from, or turning to Caldera.
  8. The Police believe most criminals come to this area via Taxi, and that's who I see getting checked out most often.
  9. An apostille is a seal of authentication agreed to by international convention. It works coming the other way when you have documents from the U.S. apostilled there to prove their authenticity before bringing them here for residency applications, etc.
  10. The Panamanian Notary is simply witnessing or authenticating your signature on the document, Doug. A notarized document may then be apostilled by the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores in Tumba Muerto.
  11. I met her father once. There is still the sentencing hearing which will no doubt be difficult for them. Very sad.
  12. This full length feature film which chronicles the career of one of Panama's greatest heroes, boxing legend Roberto Duran, will open in theatres on August 26th, 2016. It was shot in Panama and New York and features Edgar Ramirez as Roberto Duran, Robert DeNiro as Ray Arcel, Reuben Blades as Carlos Eleta, Usher as Sugar Ray Leonard, Ellen Barkin as Stephanie Arcel, Ana de Armas, and John Turturro. The legendary Roberto Duran and his equally legendary trainer Ray Arcel change each other's lives.
  13. "A former Marine pleaded guilty in San Diego federal court Wednesday to fatally stabbing his girlfriend, dismembering her body and dumping her remains in the Panama jungle...." http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-sd-murder-plea-20160224-story.html
  14. All that being said about water conforming to potability standards where it was tested, there is still plenty of opportunity for contamination within the distribution system before it gets to your home. It's probably best practice to boil drinking water.
  15. A relative of the victim confirmed that this incident in fact, did take place. His brother-in-law was shot by masked assailants when he couldn't come up with more than $300. The Police were called but did not appear. The location is correct as stated by Pantah. There is a small community around the intersection of upper Volcancito Road and the old road to Palmira Arriba.
  16. There has been some speculation and incorrect reports published about the quality of water in the municipal system. The results of recent tests by the Ministry of Health show the water to be treated and potable. Here are two updates from the Mayor and the Chief of Engineering.
  17. thanks Roger. Panama can't move forward if it can't move people and goods. Transportation infrastructure is one of the principal keys to growth and Panama continues to improve in that area, and quickly. In the capital the addition of mass public transit in the form of Metro Line 1, which seemed like a bit of a folly when it was announced, is very impressive. Lines 2 and 3 should further help the movement of people and the announced 4th bridge over the Canal will improve vehicular movement. After years of navigating a tangled web of bad trails in Costa Rica and metropolitan San José in particular, it is refreshing to live somewhere where both pubic and private transportation is recognized as a priority.
  18. Just want to make it abundantly clear that I personally admire and respect anyone who is trying to help an animal in need, be it through an organization or on an individual basis. What's wrong is when others, particularly professionals, take advantage of those kind-hearted individuals, and their trust, for monetary gain.
  19. Glad to hear that the dog is OK. I honestly think a good ethical doctor would have removed the limb at the outset instead of milking the case. Three and a half hours seems like a long time for an amputation but what do I know?
  20. I love these graphics. The continental divide is visible as well as the vortex that's been created over our whole area.
  21. enjoy the weekend it may get a little windy "gusts up to 50 km/h in Herrera and Los Santos" ..that's a regular breeze in this area
