  1. It doesn't feel like the right thing to be doing or supporting.
  2. That link worked just fine for me. I'm not a sports bar type person, so prob won't go there. But I do like ribs. Hmmmm, I guess I have a decision to make here.
  3. I've never heard of an "association" in Panama. SAs and foundations, yes, but associations, no. Or are you just being a bit loose with terminology? Can you elaborate a bit more on the structure and advantages of an association. Are there tax advantages for me if I were to contribute/donate?
  4. Been trying to Google research these fruit things. Not finding anything. Can someone give some links so that I can read more?
  5. Oops. Because you don't have the challenges that I have. I now see the subject saying the full story. Forgive me.
  6. Geez, this can be interpreted two different ways. One is that Mort's Bakery is closing early on one day for a graveside service in honor of Mort. The other way is that Mort's Bakery is permanently closing. Nothing is mentioned about opening back up the next day, or ever? Which is it? I really do hope that Mort's is going to continue in business.
  7. Nice write-up, but missing some critical information. Where the heck is this place?
  8. Gotta disagree with ya. People don't get to pick which laws apply to them. If you do believe that then you are above the law. Only courts get to decide when and to what degree a law applies or doesn't apply in a specific case of where there is a claimed violation. I thought you were the warden here. Seems like you should have that concept down pat. The next time I get stopped for speeding, my response will be that the warden told me that the law doesn't apply to rich gringos. That will go over big time. After they stop laughing, then I still get to pay the ticket.
  9. You seem to be confusing different technologies for water heaters. On-deman systems don't have a tank. So why are you talking about tank size?
  10. I was in the meeting with the ambassador last week. Actually what he was said about 4,500 US expatriates in the Chiriqui province, not Boquete. Not a big deal here, but he was trying to make a point that only 297 of them have registered for the Step program. Nothing wrong with using the same number for Marie Elaine's purpose. But on the other hand, JohnF makes a good point. I go further to sugtgest that if someone is a border hopper then they likely are on a smaller budget and they would be onthe low end of spending money here. To my way of thinking, this issue is not so much about the financial impoact on Panama, but rather the country has a right to determine its policies. As a guest in their country (you are a guest if you are not a citizen, be you a resident or a tourist), then we should respect their right to determine their policies.
  11. You gotta be kidding. This is a joke, right? $35.00 per person for a brunch. These people should apologize for this outrageous line of thinking. And to add insult to injury, the jubilados discount doesn't apply. How do they get around the law?
  12. Lurking around right now. Not able to sleep. Great website mentioned by Holisticpanama. Lots of info and that video was super good. Never heard of vials or Vega stuff before. Will research it more.
  13. Sorry to say that I have no idea what this posting is about. Is it a fund raiser? Is it a community meeting? Is it a free BBQ? What is this all about? We got the when and where, but how about the who, why and who benefits information? We really could use a lot more information. Somebody obviously put a lot of effort into their graphics. Nice, but not sufficient.
  14. I never saw any posting or NewsBoquete info that he had passed away. Ouch. I never saw any posting or NewsBoquete info that there was a memorial. Ouch.
  15. By the way, whoever is running this site is making it a lot nicer. I find it more user friendly now. And lots of information. I came back because of those new podcast things, and they are wonderful. Kudos to you guys.
  16. I'm back after many months. Got my meds under control. And then the first message I read here is enough to make me get off my meds. If someone is providing a service to collect money, it seems to me that it is only their business what they do with that money. If they want to burn it, okay. If they want to buy groceries, okay. If they want to give it to someone, okay. Why the heck do you think you have the right to question their actions?
  17. Thanks, Judy, for helping me understand why the red ink bothers me so much. He is shouting.
  18. Bob G, With all due respect, I haven't got a clue what you are talking about. Maybe my IQ is just to low. My opinion is that your writings make you and AAC all the less relevant to me because you are always putting other people down. You are the one damaging your reputation, not others. Are you asking me to believe that Franc's cell phone and your computer are connected together? What message are you referring to? Who are you quoting? Why do you write in red ink? Why can't you write short statements giving facts? How much has AAC actually published in the last two years? I find it convenient that there was a claimed cell system error that gets you off the hot seat. I no longer am going to dedicate my time to try to figure out what you are saying. I hope it is clear to you but believe me when I tell you that I have no clue.
  19. I know nothing of the details about this incident other than what I read here, plus that our housekeeper told us about it. (I still don't understand how bochinche can be faster than the speed of light, but that is the way things work here). My first thought was I hope the victim gets better. And then learning that the victim was an inspector for Alto Al Crimen caused me to do a double take. One would think that someone involved with AAC would be a bit more attentive. And then to hear of this not from AAC but from Rodney Direct was indeed interesting. Rodney sure is doing a good service, even for the AAC guys. Nothing yet from the AAC about one of their own guys. I know where I am putting my security interests in the future and it won't be AAC. This seals the deal for me in favor for Rodney. Okay, bring on the flames.
  20. Why not look at the lawyers category on this web site. There is one listed. I have not used him, but hear good things about him.
  21. Para 3 is spot on Sr Keith. Why can't we all just be friendly and helpful, and act like proper adults that our parents taught us to be?
