  1. What? Al Gore said he invented the internet. Was he lying? Oh, the horrors!
  2. She just lost her first baby canine tooth today. She's probably six months old or so. She's a little bigger than when the pictures were taken.
  3. A record number for us in one day with one veterinarian! 53 animals were spayed/neutered by Dr. Andres Tello, our wonderful veterinarian. We have now sterilized 3,515 dogs and cats. Read all about our 95th clinic and be sure to see my Flickr Album for pictures at http://spaypanama-chiriqui.org/95th.html Our next clinic will be on July 24, 2016. Please call for an appointment right away because the clinics fill up rapidly. Many thanks to everyone who volunteers, donates, and brings their animals to be sterilized! Dottie
  4. It's the same way in the US...the politicians are for themselves only and don't give a flip about the people or the country except as how their decisions affect them. And of course they exempt themselves from most of what they decree for the population. I'm wondering if this decision in Europe will eventually lead to some of the wealthier (if there are any) states in the US moving to secede.
  5. In the updated article, I added some commentary plus another link to Dr. Klenner's work using large doses of vitamin C (and other vitamins). A quote from that article: "We've used massive doses of vitamins on over 10,000 people over a period of 30 years,” said Dr. Klenner, “and we’ve never seen any ill effects from them. The only effects we've seen have been beneficial.” Dr. Klenner’s immensely valuable work is his legacy. Linus Pauling said, “The early papers by Dr. Fred R. Klenner provide much information about the use of large doses of vitamin C in preventing and treating many diseases. These papers are still important.” (32) Klenner is justly remembered as the doctor who was first to boldly assert that “Ascorbic acid is the safest and most valuable substance available to the physician” and that patients should be given “large doses of vitamin C in all pathological conditions while the physician ponders the diagnosis.” Whether overshadowed by scandal or stubbornly ignored by the medical profession, high-dose ascorbate therapy is here to stay. “I have used Dr. Klenner’s methods on hundreds of patients,” said Lendon H. Smith. “He is right.”
  6. I have a big supply of the very finely powdered vitamin C as well (like you mention from ebay), but no way would I prepare this as a solution to inject. The powdered vitamin C is easily mixed with a small amount of water to give orally, though.
  7. Judy Odom rescues a lot of cats and she likes Dr. Gomez in David. The name of his clinic in Don Henry. Sorry, I don't have contact information or exact location.
  8. Dr. Young comes to Mae Lewis from Panama City twice a month. Almost everyone waiting for surgery last Wednesday (all Panamanians) were there for their second cataract surgery by him. Everyone sang his praises. The only drawback is that he doesn't speak English. A bi-lingual Panamanian friend went with me for the initial appointment, and after that, I managed things myself. (She has also had cataract surgery by Dr. Young.) I just didn't want to try to discuss a complicated medical issue in Spanish. (See paragraph seven below for explanation of "complicated.") I see on the internet that "sunglasses are optional" afterward, but I have confidence in my doctor and will follow his advice to wear the dark glasses--inside and out for a week and then outside only for the rest of the month. Before the surgery, I had a "second opinion" by a doctor who comes to Chiriqui Hospital from Santiago and Panama City. A friend had cataract surgery by him and was pleased. Well, at Chiriqui Hospital the anesthesiologist required full blood work, EKG, chest x-ray, etc. GET REAL! A few months previously I'd had a colonoscopy there and none of those tests were required. And a colonoscopy is invasive, while laser eye surgery is not. (They are vastly enlarging Hospital Chiriqui; I guess they need to pay for it.) Plus I told the anesthesiologist that I didn't want to be put TO SLEEP, that I wanted to watch on the monitor, but he put me OUT, OUT, OUT. Plus, the colonoscopy cost me almost $1,000. (Someone else had a colonoscopy at Mae Lewis around the same time and the cost was about $400.) With the surgery by Dr. Young, the only "anesthesia" I got was 5cc of something to relax me. After the quick surgery, I got up off the gurney, got dressed, and left with my friend who drove me. (As an aside, I will NEVER have another colonoscopy. My friend Dee, who is formerly a surgical nurse, says she has seen too many colonoscopy patients rushed to emergency surgery because the doctor perforated the bowel. Dee is very favorably impressed with Hospital Mae Lewis, their operating theater, etc.) On this forum, someone commented that they'd never have cataract surgery by someone who comes from Panama City periodically. Well, when I had my first cataract surgery several years ago, I didn't know about the "visiting doctors" to David. I went to Panama City to someone "highly recommended" on a yahoo group. The doctor wanted to examine me 10 days after the surgery, so rather than the hassle of going back and forth, I stayed in Panama City for the extra time. That was certainly an additional cost, of course, plus the taxi fares back and forth. I told the doctor there that my main objective was to be able to continue to see up close without glasses. The surgery was more expensive than I paid in David a few days ago, and I have NEVER been happy with the lens the doctor in PC put in. At the time, he offered to change it--for an extra $300. He didn't tell me that to change a lens, it was necessary to do it fairly promptly. Well, I told Dr. Young about my displeasure with the lens in my right eye. that I wanted him to replace it and use lenses in both eyes so I wouldn't need to wear glasses. He explained that after the current one has been in my eye all this time, it would be risky to try to replace it; and that if I insisted, the cost would be $3,200 and he could not guarantee the results. From Dr. Young, I also discovered WHY I am so displeased with the lens in my right eye: The jerk in Panama City used a cheap lens that did not correct for astigmatism. Therefore, looking through that lens is like looking through eye glasses that badly need cleaning. (I'll give the name of the doctor/jerk in Panama City upon request.) So after more thought, I met with Dr. Young again, told him I changed my mind about replacing the current lens and I'd deal with the need to wear glasses. I told him my main objective was to be able to see up close without glasses. (With the cheap lens in my right eye, I previously had to wear glasses just to read my computer screen.) Well, just a few days after the surgery by Dr. Young, my near vision is excellent and my far vision is good enough that I may not need to wear glasses. If I do get a new prescription for eye glasses, I'll again have the lens in the right eye to correct astigmatism. So this is my saga with cataract surgeries: One great, one awful.
  9. I need two medium-sized dog crates for the spay/neuter clinics in Volcan. Please let me know if you have any to spare, either to donate or sell cheap. Thank you!
  10. Does anyone know where to find genuine neem oil? A couple of years ago I found it in a store in David that sells it (and other items for organic gardening), but I don't remember the name or location. I'll appreciate any help.
  11. I haven't found the Bach to very effective. I have one dog that you'd never know is Panamanian. I got her when she was a puppy so I know she wasn't abused. But when she's outside and it rains a drop, she's banging on the door, "Let me in, let me in!" With a heavy rain, she trembles and won't leave my side. And with thunder and lightening, I think she's going to have a heart attack! Heavy panting, shaking all over...I've given her the Bach right away but I haven't seen any improvement. I recently read about giving dogs phosphorus 30c to combat fearfulness in those situations. I just ordered some 30X from Amazon, which is stronger than the C. So we will see.
  12. Where did you get the powder and how do you prepare it for injection? The bottle of injectable Vitamin C I have is only 250 mg per mL and I'd prefer some that's much more concentrated.
  13. Bud, where do you get the forms for the Tasa Unica? Is it possibly the same form that I use to pay property taxes? Thanks! My registered agent handles no business for my foundation (I don't have any) but he charges me $150 per year for his "services." I'm getting fed up with this and intend to change. But my taxes/his fee are due by June 15th so I guess I'll have to bit the bullet and pay him his year. He pays the taxes (after I sent him the money), but I could certainly do that myself.
  14. Thank you, Bud. Another question: what is the "normal" registered agent fee?
  15. What are the current annual taxes for a Private Interest Foundation? Thanks.
  16. I, too, am keeping records. Did you ever resolve your problems with Cable Onda? Well, I hope ACODECO is a magic word when it comes to them. Personally, I've had nothing but a bad experience with ACODECO. I filed a claim on December 10, 2014 against a hotel that refused the discount . With many phone calls, I was always told to "call back in a month." I had given up, but today I decided, what the hell, I'll make one more visit. (My fourth.) I couldn't understand everything, except they said they'd call me when I was supposed to make still another visit to ACODECO for something or other--but not to get my money. I've spent more time than the $138.38 is worth!
  17. Update: after hours on the phone with Cable Onda, it was finally determined that the "technicians" installed a wireless modem for my wired connection. Apparently that caused the many problems. At first they wanted to charge me $22 to replace the modem. The modem that was THEIR mistake? I think not! The wireless modem caused all sorts of problems...disconnect, reconnect frequently, plus it interfered with my sound card so that I could not use Skype voice. While a tech (on the phone) was trying to get the modem to work anyway, my internet connection and phone service died completely. Then via a call with my cell phone, an appointment was set up for the modem replacement...within 24 to 72 hours. On Tuesday, my C&W line was reinstalled. CO removed it when they installed their line. Now the C&W line would not fit along side the CO line that runs under the ground and through a wall into my house. The C&W techs had to install the line along the side of my porch near the roof and then down through a window in my office. So I did have internet again. I have a friend with IT in Panama City. He changed my connection to 10Megas and I generally get 8. He said that's normal. Yesterday, Wednesday, a technician with CO was supposed to come switch the modem between 12:30 and 4:00. I had an email on Tuesday confirming the appointment. Another email yesterday, the day of the supposed service, confirming the appointment. Did the tech show up? Nope. He called at 4:23, and by then I was involved in other things--after putting my life on hold the entire afternoon. (I'm sure the tech was at his home because I heard dogs barking during his call and it sounded like it was indoors.) Then at 4:30 a coordinator called. Now he promised a tech will be at my house tomorrow, Friday, between 8:00 and 9:00. We will see. Fortunately, for a long time I've had my "special contact" with C&W. If the line is occasionally down, I call him and he immediately discovers the problem and how long it will be out. (One time when I called his cell phone, he was in Poland. But he found the problem anyway.) My speed with C&W is now very adequate. I will use both services for a time and then make a decision which one to keep. Having my friend with C&W is a big plus; however, since C&W has been sold, we are both wondering if he will keep his present job. He said no decision will probably be made for four months or so.
  18. Thanks. We thought we'd put chicken wire over the top to help support the plastic and help keep it from sagging. What additional slope would you suggest, i.e. shorten the 6-foot tubos to what height?
  19. One reason might be if you want to return their equipment to them and cancel the service.
  20. My employee is constructing a cover for my garden. There is not a peak in the middle. The water will drain to one side of the garden. On one side, the tubos set in concrete are 7 feet high. On the opposite side he set tubos 6 feet high. The space between the two sides is 12 feet. There will be carriolas welded every four feet from one side to the other for the 30-foot length of the garden to support a plastic cover. He just welded the first carriola today from the 7-foot side across to the 6-foot side. I called a halt to the procedure because it sure looks to me that a one-foot difference between 12 feet will not provide sufficient drainage of the rain. He may have to remove that first carriola and cut the 6-foot tubos to a shorter length. Can someone please give me the correct advice about how much shorter the one side should be in order to provide proper drainage of the rain? I looked on the internet and all the information about "ratios," etc. is beyond my comprehension. Thanks!
