  1. I have a lot of information about the "Panama Papers" on my Delphi Forum. http://forums.delphiforums.com/panamaexpats/ Under the Crime Issues folder, Panama Papers VI gives just one instance in which Mossack Fonseca engaged in criminal activities--despite their insistence that they "have done nothing wrong." And in Panama Papers VII are allegations that the US is behind (and financed) the "leak" in order to discredit the East. (I believe this; I don't put anything past the US government in their attempt to draw attention away from the fact that the US is cratering.) The "Panama Papers" have nothing to do with Panama other than Mossack Fonseca having offices here. They have offices in a lot of other countries as well, including the US.
  2. Here's the google translation of the article Roger mentioned: https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=es&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bbc.com%2Fmundo%2Fnoticias%2F2016%2F04%2F160405_economia_panama_papers_paises_con_mas_secreto_financiero_ms&edit-text=&act=url The heading is: The amazing list of 10 countries with more financial secrecy (and Panama is not among them) I agree with Roger that Panama has been made the scape goat in this issue, first of all by calling the leaks "The Panama Papers." Intentional? The only thing Panama has to do with it is that the Mossack Fonseca Law firm has offices here. They have offices in a lot of other countries, too.
  3. US-Panama FTA linked to tax evasion THE PANAMA PAPERS affair is being cited in the USA as a warning sign over Free Trade deals between the two countries, with Hillary Clinton a torch bearer and Bernie Sanders predicting tax evasion problems. On Tuesday, President Obama claimed that activity like that exposed by the Panama Papers was the result of “poorly designed” laws, some analysts state that relevant regulations were not exactly “poorly designed,” but skillfully designed to facilitate certain interests says Washington based Institute for Public Accuracy. ...etc. http://www.newsroompanama.com/news/panama/us-panama-free-trade-linked-tax-evasion?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+newsroompanama+%28Newsroom+Panama%29 I didn't say the "leak story" came from the US. And, yes, the story was first printed by a German newspaper...but who knows where the "leaks" actually came from? Some think the CIA did the hacking. Back to my coconut oil...
  4. I think it's hypocrisy for the US to paint Panama black, when it is the most corrupt country in the world. And probably the biggest money launderer. Besides, the "leaks" should be called the " Mossack Fonseca Papers," not the "Panama Papers." The big-money drug lords and money launderers (such as the US) will always get away with it, while the "leaks" of such stuff affects only the innocent. Like Bud said.
  5. Today I found 54 fl. ounces of coconut oil at Price Smart for $23.99. Get 'em while they got 'em. The brand is Carrington Farms. Pure, unrefined, cold pressed, 100% organic extra virgin. This is same brand and size Finca Santa Marta advertises for $43.50. And the Price Smart cost is less expensive than the local coconut oil I recently bought at $8.00 for a pint.
  6. Bud, what/where is the Language Transfer series? Thank you.
  7. Thank you, Marcelyn. It was great meeting you and Bud also. (And thanks, Bud, for correcting the link.)
  8. Sorry, there is an error in the link. The correct link is http://spaypanama-chiriqui.org/92nd.html
  9. 43 animals were spayed/neutered by Dr. Andres Tello, our wonderful veterinarian, plus he removed two minor tumors from a male dog. http://spaypanama-chiriqui.org/92nd.html It was a long day. At about 6:30 we had everything packed up and in my car, ready to leave. Most volunteers had gone, leaving only me and Jose, Dr. Tello, Dee Braden and Stephanie Rodriguez. We had already locked the front door when we saw a skinny little female dog nearby. As always, I had dried food in my car. I put some on the porch. She was scared but hungry enough to come eat it. Jose managed to capture her. We unlocked the building, unpacked the necessary supplies, and Dr. Tello spayed her right then. He operated on the side because she was still nursing puppies. He wouldn't even let me pay him for that dog. We love that wonderful man! Not only is he the most skilled, competent vet I've ever known, he also has such a very kind heart. We have now sterilized 3,377 dogs and cats. Be sure to see my Flickr Album for pictures. The link is near the bottom of the web page. Our next clinic is on April 17th. Call right away for an appointment because the clinics fill up fast. Dottie
  10. Dr. Young comes from Panama City twice a month to operate at Mae Lewis. My first cataract removal was done by a doctor in PC, office in Patilla Medical Center and performs surgeries at the place Keith mentioned. Supposedly a professional in his field also. I have NEVER, NEVER been pleased with the lens he put in. (The doctor wasn't Arosemena.) Plus it was a big hassle. He wanted to examine me after 10 days. It would have been such a hassle to go back and forth from Volcan in such a short time that I just stayed in PC for the 10 days. Never again. Dr. Young comes highly recommended. The only drawback is that he doesn't speak English.
  11. I will soon have a cataract removed. I had consultations with two doctors, Dr. Young at Mae Lewis and Dr. Petroncelli at Chiriqui Hospital. I liked them both, but I decided to go with Dr. Young. The following reason had a big impact in deciding on Dr. Young over Dr. Petroncelli: Before a cataract removal at Hospital Chiriqui, the anesthesiologist requires all sort of blood tests, an EKG, chest X-ray, etc. Get real! I previously had a cataract removed (in Panama City at Patilla Hospital) and none of that nonsense was even mentioned. Same at Mae Lewis. Chiriqui Hospital is now just all about money. I hope to never step foot in that place again! Re the orthopedists on the list, I had knee surgery by one listed who speaks excellent English. He's an incompetent, arrogant butcher. After $6,000, he made my knees much worse than they were before the surgery. I won't post his name publicly but contact me privately if you want to know.
  12. Thank you for your sweet message, Bud. I really enjoyed the visit by you and Marcelyn. And I'm glad you got to meet my 16 dogs (although not "up close and personal") and hear some of their stories--horrible lives before, happy and healthy now. By the way, Chris mentioned the steel-cut oats at El Rey. The old Berard's in Volcan has those, too. They stock a lot of Red Mill products, including gluten-free flour, qunioa, etc. Amazingly, the flour is less expensive than on Amazon! The quinoa is expensive. I ordered 4 lbs. of organic non-GMO quinoa from Amazon at a good price. I have confidence in the Red Mill company. I emailed them to ask if their products contain any GMO ingredients. The helpful person said they can't guarantee it, but they do their best to source from reputable, non-GMO growers.
  13. Actually Supermercado California and Berards have the regular oatmeal, too. (The old Berards; don't know about the newer one.) Amazingly, it seems to be slightly cheaper at Romero.
  14. Romero (in Volcan anyway) has the big round boxes of regular oats. $3.29
  15. I posted this on my Delphi forum (http://forums.delphiforums.com/panamaexpats/) but I think it is important enough to post here as well: “Necklace” Aims To Help Protect Women From Sexual Attacks This could also work for men when being attacked--for any reason. Does Panama have a 911? I don't know, but if not, the device could be programmed to alert the police. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It’s a sad reality is that violence against women continues to be prevalent in our society. Wanting to arm women with something to protect them from attacks, Yasmin Mustafa and Anthony Gold founded a company called ROAR. They wanted to provide something more powerful than MACE or whistles for women to carry around as protection and came up with a sleek piece of wearable technology called Athena that is designed to be a powerful alert device. By holding down a button on the Athena, text alerts are sent to your friends and family, giving them your location. It also sends an alert to 911 and sounds a loud alarm, hopefully startling your attacker. Of course women should not only rely on a device like this for their safety but also beaware of their surroundings, take safety precautions and learn some basic self-defence, like how to break out of a chokehold. Nevertheless, ROAR has a lot of potential as a safety tool for women that leverages technology for good. Share this technology with your friends and family! 16. Thanks for the info, Fran. I guess I can get to Boquete in the same time as to David. I'd prefer to see her in David, though, because I always have other things to do in David. I will try her when I need something. I don't trust most doctors at all. I've never had one suggest anything but drugs for any malady. Of course most know nothing about nutrition or alternative medicine. And I doubt they ever do any research after graduating as a "doctor." They prescribe what the drug reps tell them to prescribe. Before taking ANY drug, I suggest doing research about it on the internet. There are a lot of deaths caused by prescription drugs.
  17. Where are her offices (or office) in David? And do you have a phone number for the David office?
  18. Thank you. I received a Welcome Message but it didn't include an information about how to change my personal information.
  19. Mark, I know you read this forum so please respond. How in the heck do I change my personal information with Rodny? We are urged to keep the information up to date but I can't find a way to do it. I emailed my question to info@rodnydirect.com on February 28th and have received no response. Thank you.
  20. Can anyone recommend a well-servicing person? I have a shallow well (dug with a backhoe), maybe 10-feet deep. The pump won't prime; Also I need to have a screen with a check valve installed at the intake pipe on the bottom. I am in Volcan. Someone had recommended Perfora Panama. Turns out that there's probably one guy, Ing. Onesimo Samudo. My employee started calling him on February 1st. He always say he'd call back in a couple of days to set a date and time. He never did. Jose kept calling him. He had promised to come last Friday. He never showed up, didn't call, and did not answer his cell phone. Jose called again yesterday. Onesimo promised to come that day, yesterday. He never showed up and didn't call. I give up! This is one company NOT to recommend!
  21. Here's the followup email from David Burnett. I find both of his emails somewhat confusing. It seems pretty obvious that David did either have phone problems or called the wrong number. I apologize for posting anything that could reflect negatively on Rodny. I had no way of checking to see if David's comments were correct. It's just that as a subscriber, David's email concerned me. I'm glad to see that the fault was no doubt David's.
