  1. I paid for the Rodny Direct services not long ago. Now just recently the following was posted on local (Volcan) groups and also sent to Rodny. I don't know if there has been a response. I find it concerning.
  2. I think there were a lot of ferias or some sort of "entertainment." They did a lot fewer in David also, only 80 animals. With two vets (one is Dr. Tello), they usually sterilize well over 100.
  3. http://spaypanama-chiriqui.org/91st.html Dr. Tello sterilized 24 dogs and cats today. It was a disappointing day in that we had a lot of last-minute cancellations, plus the owners of 22 scheduled animals did not show up. Nevertheless, each animal counts. Fortunately, six people came without appointments; otherwise we would have sterilized even fewer animals. Abdel Victoria, like me, has 16 rescued dogs he loves very much. The foot of a male dog, Rambo, had been slashed off with a machete. Dr. Tello correctly amputated the leg up to the shoulder. Dogs do just fine on 3 legs. They do NOT do okay on 3-1/2 legs. Rambo was also neutered at the clinic. I visited Abdel on Tuesday, the second day after Rambo's surgical procedures. Rambo was happily running and playing. Our next clinic will be on March 20, 2016. Please call for an appointment right away because the list is almost full already. Thanks to everyone who volunteers, donates, and brings their animals to be sterilized! Dottie
  4. People who paid for the mutilation and unnecessary suffering of Samuel are silent about what it cost. Rumor is upwards of $1,000. Does anyone know for sure?
  5. Judy Odom uses Dr. Gomez for some things, but she also brings her cats to our clinics in Volcan. I've personally encountered two (serious) misdiagnoses by him (resulting in death of the dog) and another by someone else with death as the result. This was long before I knew Dr. Tello. Before him, I also had horrible experiences with "Dra. Death" here in Volcan.
  6. The amputation--TO THE SHOULDER--should have been performed long ago by a competent vet (Dr. Tello), and then people would not have been begging for money to pay for "a very expensive operation." Dogs do just fine on 3 legs. They do NOT do fine on 3-1/2 legs. These people have been to our clinics for sterilizations several times, so they are aware of Dr. Tello's skill AND the low cost he charges at our clinics. At a clinic they attended recently she mentioned she likes Dr. Sam. I asked why she didn't use him for sterilizations. The response: "Too bloody expensive." I am so angry on behalf of the dog that was subjected to unnecessary suffering that they can continue to use Dr. Sam for all their veterinary needs, not our clinics. Per TwoSailors: "Just very sad that us animal owners only have one resource for surgery care." True, but the "one source" is Dr. Tello. He works at clinics in both David and Volcan once a month, and occasionally in Boquete. With no problem he has amputated legs, removed huge tumors (both venereal and mammary tumors), removed eyes, and whatever else is necessary. For anyone to subject their animal to surgery by anyone else is...well, I guess I'm not allowed to say "stupid." Also, Dr. Tello will graciously meet people at the border at Paseo Canoas when necessary. You won't find a better veterinarian/surgeon anywhere, including in the US. Edited 7 hours ago by Admin_01
  7. Also, the dog may be "okay" in that he survived the surgery. But in the short run/long run, he very well may NOT be "okay."
  8. Good surgeries? No way, no how. I'm appalled because I believe this dog was mutilated -- and for a very high price: they were soliciting donations for "a very expensive surgery." And as far as I know, the leg was not removed up to the shoulder, which is the absolute WRONG way to do it. 3-1/2 hours for an amputation? Give me a break. At our clinic today Dr. Tello amputated a front leg from a 45-lb. dog--up to the shoulder, which is the RIGHT way to do it.. It took him 45 minutes. His charge? $50. And Keith is absolutely correct in his statement. The only people who like HP are people who don't know what GOOD veterinary care is. I have horror stories out the kazoo with these people...and not just "stories" ...with animals I've personally seen the result where Dr. Tello ended up saving a limb or saving a life after being mutilated by these people.
  9. The "safely remove hardware" icon wasn't in my task bar but I found it and put it there. But my external hard drive is grayed out. I ran the command and it did not let me eject the external hard drive. Guess it's the log off option. I did a Print-Screen but it's not very readable.
  10. Uh, question...when I right click on my external hard drive in Windows Explorer, there is not an option to eject. I hate to just unplug it...is there a way to eject first?
  11. Wow, not just suspended from Ning, but from Boquete Panama as well. Ning must be very powerful! (Chuckle.)
  12. "My hourly rate is $60 per hour, one hour minimum." Gulp. Sorry to mention a "competitor," but I'm very glad that I recently found Dan Porter (Twin Wolf Technologies). Unless I have a hardware situation, Dan can access my computer remotely and fix almost everything. His rates are very reasonable, plus he installs for free an excellent anti-virus program. He doesn't charge "gringo prices."
  13. Right on, Fran. " In this case, I think the recovery would be MUCH easier on the poor dog than going through all the pinning and attempts to save the leg, especially in view of the high potential for bad surgery by David vets." And if amputation is necessary (which I'm guessing it will be), I hope ARF will consult with Dr. Tello to determine the best course of action. It would be horrible to put the dog through all sorts of (probably ineffective) surgery, only to have the leg amputated in the end. We KNOW that Dr. Tellio always gives BIG discounts to his patients at the spay/neuter clinics.
  14. Thanks for your kind words, Bonnie. If true, it really sucks that those vets won't even give a discount to ARF "clients." I've given the information about how to get Samuel to Dr. Tello for competent treatment. If they choose to go the other route, the poor dog will most certainly suffer incompetent expensive surgery. I've seen those vets' experience with "pins." One man took a puppy to them with a broken rear leg--allegedly. The "vets" put in a pin and then a cast. About a week later, the smell from under the cast was awful. The man took the dog back, but was told the smell was "normal." Fortunately we had a clinic a couple of days later and the man brought the puppy to us. The smell was terrible infection. Dr. Tello removed the cast; the pin was protruding through the wound and rubbing on the cast. The puppy very nearly lost his leg over the maltreatment and also could have died from sepsis. When the man complained to the original vets, there was no apology or admission of doing anything wrong. The only response: "Can I have my pin back." Dr.Tello has a heart of gold. Last clinic he spayed a dog and removed a huge mammary tumor. Removing the tumor alone took 45 minutes. He knew the owner had no money and that neighbors brought the dog and were paying. He charged only $20 to remove the huge tumor. We have two amputations scheduled for the next clinic. I'm sure he will charge only $40 for those, the same as he has in the past. Of course he charges "the going rate" at his clinic in Costa Rica, but at the clinics he does his part in the community service that it is. Someone brought animals to our clinic; they also use the "vets in question" and like them. I asked why, if they like them, they don't have their animals spayed/neutered by them "Too bloody expensive," was the response. (By the way, I love Dra. Chely, too. When I first started the clinics in Volcan, she and several of the Boquete group came for several months to help me. I didn't have a clue! I'll always be grateful to them!)
  15. Keith, I would not contribute to this either because I'm sure the "darlings" are the ones who would perform the (incompetent, expensive) surgery. Poor dog! I won't give the names of the "vets" in David, but ask around. Some people think these vets walk on water. I've seen horrendous results of their surgeries. Thanks to Dr. Tello, he was able to reverse their errors before the dog died or lost a leg because of their incompetence.
  16. Dr. Tello is the ONLY vet I recommend for surgeries and everything else. Since I started the spay/neuter clinics in Volcan in March 2006, I've gained a lot of knowledge about what constitutes good vs bad veterinary care...and boy, have I seen the results of BAD (expensive) care by other so-called vets. Plus I've had plenty of experience with my own rescued dogs. I've become a "vet tech" via experience and many people in the Volcan area call me for problems/illnesses/injuries with their dogs. Most of the time I can solve the problem. I can even suture wounds. Dr. Tello is Panamanian but lives and works in Costa Rica. He works at our clinics in Volcan once per month and once per month in David. He used to go to Boquete every month, but he became so exhausted that he now limits the Boquete clinics to a few times a year. Here in Volcan we have only one vet at our clinics, Dr. Tello. The clinics in Boquete do a wonderful job, but they have numerous vets. Several people from the Boquete area bring their animals to our Volcan clinics so that they are sure Dr. Tello will take care of their animals. Between clinics, when there's a need, Dr. Tello will graciously meet people with their animals at the Paseo Canoas border. Yes, Two Sailors, it's a sad state of affairs that we have such a lack of competent veterinary care in Chiriqui. Before I knew Dr. Tello, I've been to them all in David and paid big bucks for misdiagnoses that caused death of my dogs. And in Volcan? We have one who is appropriately nicknamed "Dr. Death." I'd like to put a sign in front of her clinic "Dra. Muerta."
  17. I will take her if you can bring her to Volcan. She will have a good home with me.
  18. " another Vet had her for 2 months and did 2 surgeries, and cost me hundreds ," I'm sure you mean the "other vet" charged you hundreds. Dr. Tello's primary concern is for the animals, and his fees are ridiculously inexpensive.
  19. Does anyone know where to buy it--and what to ask for in Spanish? Thanks in advance!
  20. Well, I'll call this experiment a bust. If something like this would work at all, I think it would work just as well mixing the Epsom salts with water and then add some citronella oil. The dissolved Epsom salts gives kind of a greasy feel so it would no doubt "stick" to things. I have no idea what the beer was supposed to do. So here's your report from the "canary in the coal mine."
  21. There certainly are many 3-legged dogs that don't even know they have a limb missing. I've had several myself. Miss Waggles could dig a hole to China with that one front leg. (Miss Waggles has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She was old, and told us she was ready to go.) I just do HOPE that Dr. Tello will be the one to diagnose the problem and perform whatever surgery is necessary. There are horror stories galore about the "darlings" I assume you are planning to have do the surgery. I'd hate to say "I told you so," but I will.
  22. If Dr. Tello did the surgery, it would be done well and it would not be so costly. You could bring Samuel to our clinic in Volcan next Sunday for Dr. Tello to take the dog to Costa Rica with him. Then after the surgery you could meet him at the border to bring Samuel home. Or, Dr. Tello MAY be operating at a clinic in David next Saturday. Call Patrick McKittrick to ask. 6674-4842. If so, you could take Samuel to the David clinic for Dr.Tello to take Samuel to Costa Rica for whatever surgery is necessary. I absolutely will not have any kind of surgery done on my dogs by anyone but Dr. Tello. I've seen too many bad results of surgeries done by other vets, including the "darlings" that some expats think walk on water. They do NOT know how to properly deal with a fracture. Samuel looks like a very sweet dog and I'd hate to see him subjected to inferior care.
  23. Exactly. I don't have a journalism degree, but I know the English language. Other errors that make my teeth grind are the misuse of the verbs "to lie" and "to lay." Please forgive me..I'm not criticizing anyone. Sometimes I can't remove my "editor's hat." We all know what one intends to say (write).
