  1. Hey Wry, welcome back! Glad you're still here with all your wisdom and enlightenment.
  2. Is Inmunotek in the Don Vidal bldg one of those ISO certified labs?
  3. Only 3 reasons I can think of for killing someone: war, self defense, and sadism. Obviously the killer's reason was the third one.
  4. Why did Keith title this topic "Silly Season"? Seems an odd designation for reporting deaths and car crashes. I thought the term Silly Season applied to political antics, usually those preceding an election.
  5. You have to ask Bud to delete it. Once, years ago, I went to buy a TV and bought a house instead.
  6. After a year of trying different boxes and different IPTV providers, I finally have a combination that is excellent. I want to share this information, because many people became discouraged with IPTV. Give it another try, because this system rarely freezes, has great picture quality (true HD), and has a playback feature in case you miss a show. You can also use apps such as Kodi. You get live streaming of all the U.S. and Canadian channels, plus UK and other European channels and others worldwide. Since Cable Onda is providing such high speed now, it supports IPTV very well. The box is a Dreamlink T1 Plus, available from Amazon. The IPTV provider is one Carlos de Campo found after much searching. This provider has a tech he can reach immediately if there is a problem, and the tech is very responsive about making fixes. Fortunately there are very few problems with this one. The cost is $12.50 per month if you purchase a one year subscription. I don't make money on this. I just want to spread the word. The Dreamlink has to have a direct ethernet connection to work properly. My modem was in a room far from the TV, so I got Cable Onda to move it. Very simple. If you want any technical details, please contact Carlos at Carlos_DeCampos@hotmail.com or send me a private message.
  7. The point was they had been hiking with their dogs and wanted to stop for a bite to eat, something they had always been able to do. They did not say they always take their dog when they go out to eat. Perhaps the health dept prohibits dogs, and being new owners they want to follow the rules.
  8. The digital mammogram is put on a DVD, which they give to you along with a written report by the radiologist. The report is in Spanish, but it is not hard to make out what it says. Many medical terms are similar in English and Spanish.
  9. You have a good point. If there is no water to flush the toilets, the restaurant employees also can't wash their hands. That is disgusting.
  10. How refreshing! 60 days instead of 1-1/2 years like in the U.S., or all the time as it is getting to be now.
  11. The only thing that works here is VERY defensive driving. I lived in India for a year. Panama drivers are a piece of cake. No comparison, and no herds of cows and goats in the street either.
  12. I have trouble even getting around Boquete these days. Every time I want to turn somewhere, there is a pile of dug up street and a bulldozer in the way. I get around David on intuition. I gave up trying to follow maps.
  13. Many people here help people (e.g. Buenos Vecinos, Hogar Trisker, Handicap Foundation), many help animals (Amigos de Animales and ARF), and many volunteer for both animal and people charities. Different strokes. Nobody is judging anybody for how they choose to help. It's great that so many people want to get involved.
  14. I guess you missed what Bonnie said. Bill died a few years ago.
  15. She is really beautiful! It's hard to believe she was in such bad shape when you got her. Good job indeed!
  16. There was a story on 60 minutes or one of those shows with an aid worker showing all the useless donated stuff and even good stuff that went to waste (would you believe donations to the Thailand tsunami victims included spike heeled shoes?). It showed huge piles of clothing that rescuers did not have time to sort or distribute. The piles remained where they were unloaded and left to mold and rot on the beach. They eventually had to burn them. The aid worker said the only sensible and useful way to help in a natural disaster is to send cash to established aid organizations so what is needed can be purchased locally or closer to the area that needs help. She pointed out that cases of bottled water were donated and flown to a disaster area for a cost of over $100,000 to transport them. Aid organizations in the area had water purifying equipment that could put out the same amount of water in a day for only $300. The point of all this is it would be helpful to know what aid groups are helping Barbuda, St. Martin, the Virgin Islands, Florida, etc. so people could donate cash. Is Primera Dama Panama one of them?
  17. That's the same place people have been talking about for weeks. I was hopeful you had found a place in Boquete.
  18. I hope he can run fast. Isn't there a safer way to look for an approaching tsunami?
  19. There is only one good mammography machine in David. It is the newer digital mammography machine at Hosp. Chiriqui. You have to ask them to use that one. The older machines (one at Hosp. Chiriqui and the one at Mae Lewis) give greatly inferior images compared to the digital machine. I haven't heard that Mae Lewis has a digital machine. If anybody knows, please let us know. You don't need to schedule an appointment at either hospital. You can just walk in.
  20. Maybe supporting all the U.S. military and their families who lived in the canal zone, plus the support services in the canal zone for those families. That must have been very expensive.
