  1. Probably the best thing to do is drive down the road and find his place. Then you will know for sure he is still in business.
  2. You can also call 800-4346. Ignore the "press 1, etc" options, and immediately hit 0. You will get a live person who will ask for your NIS number and proceed as you describe. It's best to call when you have a long outage, because sometimes your call is the first that makes them aware there's a problem in your area.
  3. Does anybody know how to ship a single heavy item (170 lb.) to someone in the U.S.?
  4. Power outages are so frequent and unpredictable, I have started grinding my morning coffee the night before so I don't have to drink instant if the power is out. You do need a gas stove however, to heat the water.
  5. What I don't get is the people who walk behind my car when I am starting to back up. They don't seem to notice the back up lights and the car in motion. I look in all directions twice, then behind me a third time, then right and left to see if there is someone preparing to walk behind me. If being oblivious is a cultural trait, no thank you, I have no interest in participating in that.
  6. She is a beautiful dog. Surely there must be a home for her soon.
  7. Good idea. I know I'm missing a lot of good stuff. I tend to go to the same places I know, stop and pet the ARF dogs, say hi to friends, then leave before I get trampled. I like Ana's vegetable market in the back and the 2 Guys with the frozen dinners and scones. I'm glad to see the Casa de Cerdo people there, since they closed their Boquete store. There is also a man who sells lamb and veal, two hard to find meats here. The fresh herbs in various places are a nice find too. There used to be somebody who sold seafood, but I haven't seen him there for a long time.
  8. I already spent hours making albums on flickr. I really don't want to use another app. I just don't understand how to make the albums private so only the selected ones show up to people I send them to, not all the albums that I have. I haven't had any of those problems in your link. It is working fine for me.
  9. This is a photo managing app on Yahoo. If there are any experts out there, I have a question about sharing albums.

    Water Buffalo

Do they milk the water buffalo cows? Their milk makes wonderful ricotta cheese.
  11. I'm confused. I get my drivers license at Chiriqui Mall and my plates at Dolega Municipio. Do I have to update my license a year before it expires? I never did that when my passport number changed. I just gave them the old and new passports when I renewed the license.
  12. Thanks Keith. I did this when I got a new passport, but I forgot about the Banco Nat'l step. Is ATTT the driver license office? I don't have to do that until next year. Plates are in July.
  13. I am getting my E-cedula in a couple of weeks. What records do I need to change? I have never had to show my car title when renewing my drivers license.
  14. It is correct. I got this from another website: If your social security number ends in 00 through 49, your letter will be mailed out in May and June of even numbered years. If your social security number ends in 50 through 99, your letter will be mailed out in May and June of odd numbered years.
  15. There is already a foreign transaction fee when you take money from a U.S. bank from the Global Bank ATM.
  16. I would think the Mike Rogers proposal would be unlikely to pass. But crazier things have happened. Would this keep us from getting money from our U.S. bank accounts transferred to our Panama bank? A lot of non-thinking going on there.
  17. Well said Penny. I think expats who came here without family and a built-in support system, especially single women who came here on their own, are very brave for doing that. They don't need to be criticized for not learning Spanish fast enough. It is a struggle to learn Spanish, especially when you don't have a Spanish-speaking partner and local family who can help you practice, or to be there to translate for you when you just can't understand something said. There are lots of Spanish radio stations in the U.S., so what's wrong with having an English one in Boquete? Everybody needs some help sometimes.
  18. Notify the U.S. embassy of the death. They will send you a death certificate in English good for use in the U.S. They send several copies. They will also take care of reporting the death to Social Security. Mitzi Clare Nash is an excellent certified translator.
