Perhaps the loud shouting you hear is from people living in my neighborhood. One neighbor told me she is complaining about the hugh increase in water bills "to every governmental agency including the Boquete Mayor".

Another resident said he wouldn't pay the increased costs and there is a law that the water can not be turned off if you do not pay the water bill.  True?

Suspect Acueducto de Alto Lino is just the first supplier to increase the cost of water; others will do the same.

Since it appears you folks are getting your water from a private source it wouldnt do much good to complain to City Hall.

If this is the first increase you've had in many years, perhaps it's well justified.

This is really good news about ll Barolo moving to downtown area. The lack of parking at their current location is a major consideration for return visits.

There is certainly no extra parking around the Machu Pichu restaurant. Clients of La Orquidea have nowhere to park now and the street is difficult to traverse during the lunch hour. The area cannot support another establishment, imo.

Recent discussion on .NING re: educating children you've brought to Boquete leads me to believe there's some on-going after the fact research happening.  Conclusion: it won't be easy.  Why  you would not figure all this out first before moving here puzzles me.

Has anyone else noticed that many of the people who are homeschooling their children might benefit from some extracurricular help themselves?

'We are new to Boquete. We have a 13 year old daughter and 16 year old son.I personally checked out the International school. There are alot of fees not included in the tuition. The cost for the two would of been 750.00 a month. That did not include textsbooks (all books are new each year..they don't reuse).transportation from town is six dollars a day per child.I did not get uniform cost.I am still researching too. Will home school if I need too..lots of tutors in Boquete to help.Best to you!'

  4. When a government resolution is published in La Gaceta, it signifies that it has become 'the law of the land', so to speak.

The first line of this resolution says 'Precios Maximos de Venta al Consumidor de Combusitibles Liquidos en Panama'

or 'Maximum Consumer Prices of Liquid Fuels in Panama'.

Roger Bellido can verify all of this but to the best of my knowledge, it is ACODECO who handles complaints.

We see differences all the time here in Boquete between the Delta station and the Terpel in Alto Boquete (Windy City area).

Our experiences cause me to question whether the price really is set, or is it just a guideline?

Fuel prices are regulated by the Secretariat of Energy and checked by Acodeco.

Since they're adjusted every second Friday prices have usually changed at least once between most motorist's tank fillups.

Of course, there's also the "sorry, no ladder available to change the sign" possibility.

Here are the current prices until January 8th as published in the Gaceta Oficial and that's what the pumps need to be set at.

The next adjustments are on the 8th and they'll probably be announced tomorrow. Usually published in La Estrella.

  6. The price of fuel in Panama is set every two weeks based on supply costs and reserves on hand.

The lowest prices per litre are in Panama City which increase slightly across the country based on distance from the tank farm there. We pay a few pennies more per litre here in Boquete to cover cost of transport as can be seen in this price list from an earlier period.

  7. Best Wishes at New Year's are generally directed at another person's health and prosperity, and I pass them on to all.

Mine often include a word or two about all of humanity living in peace and harmony, and I pass those on to you, too.

Perhaps not my best, but maybe one of my better wishes this year, is for less acrimonious and non-productive content to be posted by all members of the local online community. I'm passing that on as well.

  9. Just my opinion, but making public statements which denigrate others in response to a few questions about the organization and it's plans isn't going to win AAC any friends.

On another forum some detractors of Alto al Crimen (the usual suspects, no longer on .ning so far as I know) responded to the news item introducing Franc Lugo with some questions and comments that appeared to be based on the assumption that the board of directors of Alto al Crimen just climbed down off a load of turnips and begain administering a Panama foundation.

On the off chance that some others may have similar questions, I am posting my reply on this forum also.

  10. Woody, Dan, your points are well taken.

If we feel their programs are beneficial to the community we too will continue to support AAC. Efforts being made are appreciated.

However, we were all put in a position where we were forced to make a choice about Emergency Hotline service and ours was made using the same criteria that I would use to contract any other professional. ie: ability, experience, and value for services offered.

From the outset I have been hesitant to get involved in discussions concerning AAC because of the controversial manner in which the RD startup was handled.

The announcement provides the information I need to make a choice of service. Thanks.

Someone asked me to clarify my statement.

What it means is that we'll be signing up with Rodny.

He's answered and handled promptly and efficiently at least four or maybe five emergency distress calls that I've made on behalf of others these last few years.

Before making that choice we thought it fair to wait for AAC to get re-organized and assess the service the organization would be offering.

In hindsight, anything short of a reconciliation or amalgamation with Rodny would have no doubt prompted the same decision for us.

See the reply on Facebook on Chiriqui Noticias from a person.  The man did not pass in a restaurant.  He passed in an apartment behind the restaurant. R.I.P.

Yes Paula, the news report was wrong on every count.

The deceased was a well known friend, Jim Kimball, affectionately known as Gentleman Jim. Although he wasn't discovered until last night, it seems he probably passed on Christmas Eve.

A friendly but quiet fellow, Jim genuinely cared about others and was always asking after one acquaintance or another. He lived a very humble life here, first above the old Amigos until it became Baru and then afterwards over Roxan's salon.

Jim and I had both been in Costa Rica before coming to Panama and he liked to tell people that at one point "we shared the same crooked lawyer".

Admirably, Jim lived quietly from his savings. He told me he never collected Social Security, believing that if he didn't need the money, it was best left for others who did.

We think he knew that his time was short but aren't sure what preparations he may have made, if any. Several of us are making inquiries, as we know he had a sister.

    RIP my friend.

And that's what this post is all about.

Went by there this morning and did not see the dogs out.

i am going to hazard a guess that the corregedora said someone should find homes for the dogs before someone in the neighbourhood poisons them.
