  1. Where is the water purification plant being constructed? And has the sewage plant been started? I haven't seen or heard of a shovel full of dirt being turned for this. Repairing leaks, replacing pipes and maintaining supply are important. You would think a water district could manage more than two or three projects when the money has been provided up front. I know many locals that will not drink the water and haven't for sometime. So, it is a problem. The locals have more time living in Boquete than any expat. Also, think about the crops that use this water. It's not a simple look the other way thing. I'm in Boquete three to four times a week, spend money, donate tax money while there, and WILL NOT drink the water. I use bottled water. How slow is progress supposed to be when it comes to health concerns over a water supply?

Hilary, this is a five year project. The design-bid contract was only let a few months ago and is now in the detail study process. You can see surveyors around town every day gathering additional data for the engineers to make critical decisions and draw their plans.

I wouldn't expect to see any excavation or construction start for a while, but when it does the streets in downtown Boquete may well be a mess for years, and of course there will be service interruptions.

In the meantime, I believe the new Mayor is doing his best to keep patching and improving the existing systems to meet the demands of an ever growing population.

Tanks, pumps, and filters have come to be the norm around Boquete. Maybe in five years we won't need all that.

  2. No problem agreeing with Bonnie.

This whole 'report' should be discounted, imo, as the person who wrote it hasn't been here more than a month and is without local knowledge of the history or the future of Boquete's water systems, and/or how to live with them, as most folks have learned.

As far as I can tell, this is just a rant by someone who didn't their homework before moving to a foreign country.

Mayor Walker has had people working on repairs and improvements to the water service since the day he took office.

  3. More info: even if you're within your 5 minutes and click to start on the button to start editing, you had better finish quickly!  Last night, I tried to edit a response seemingly right after I sent it, but by the time I re-worked it, it was too late to submit.

    Ah hah!

I'm wondering now if that's how my post about juvenile offender laws disappeared on Saturday. I know that I edited it. ..maybe it vaporized on a time-out infraction.

Guess we know now how to delete a post within the given time frame.

Agreed that ten or fifteen minutes gives a little more time for review and perhaps some sober second thought.

  4. The TRUTH, Keith, is that you are not doing yourself sny favours, especially by the juvenile deflecting you are attempting.

Well, I'm sorry Mr. Ferguson but being judged by you or any other uninformed people just isn't something that bothers me, nor should it.

The fellow asked a question and I responded to him politely, emphatically, and truthfully.

However since you seem to want, and perhaps merit, a juvenile response, have a listen here. This will be my last post related to boquete.ning

  5. The Truth is that any involvement I had with boquete.ning is my business and the person(s) I had it with, not yours, or that of anyone else.

The Truth is that I have not discussed any of the controversies or personalities involved with .ning publicly, nor will I.

The Truth  is that it's difficult to believe that this is the only subject some people can find to deal with at a time when there are far more serious issues facing their communities.

  6. Well there is a disappointment.   I guess Keith does not want to "come clean" and put the rumors to rest.  At least he responded, albeit in Patrick style.

The funny thing about secrecy is the truth always comes out in the end usually embarrassing those who tried to keep things hidden.

  7. Update:  The AVOV box does not have Micky Hop platform or a KODI platform.  Here's what Carlos said:

Aov's platform is "Stalker Middleware" A.K.A known as the backend as well. This is the software that is incorporated in the Avov device to connect to the server. There are many Android devices with different Middleware platforms with different IPTV providers. I am sure Juan's is different. Only a handle full of Android devices have built in Stalker Middleware to work on our server.

not saying this is your problem but it might be worth checking out

  8. Clearing the cache is not applicable for IPTV.  It doesn't work through your computer.  It works through a box attached to your TV by a HDMI cable.  There is no cache.

Yes, i'm aware it's an interface and I'm not sure what box IPTV is using, but it does contain a processor with a memory cache. To the best of my knowledge, the IPTV platform is KODI which I recently installed on a Fire TV box. I am not very familiar with it yet, but have noticed apps with tools which mention 'clearing the cache'.  Here's what Google turned up.

  9. I have not a clue how you can give someone a reputation...like Wryawary.  His reputation speaks for itself, and eloquently I might add. Anyway I suppose I will figure it out in time.

    Alison

PS.  I just added that comment to up the ante on my posts so as that some day I will become a legit  "member" and not just a mere newbie. ( kiddin).  Oh look ( I'm editing my post )  I graduated to a "novice" !...wow, I'm stoked

What if you're the victim of a 'bum rep'?  My post disappeared.

  10. Keith.....that WAS a huge concern among every official that spoke and the drive to keep in custody youth offenders was their strong desire. The fact that there is no support there from the National Police was central concern ...and that will change.   The more pressure from our voices the easier the task will be to push this forward.   Now, whether the alleged perps of the latest crime are still detained I am not certain.  Athena will move quickly in the legislature to introduce bills to change the law...she assured the crowd of that.  That got a standing ovation.  She is serious.  The entire community is determined.  Personal protection and a plan is certainly important, and that is up to each one of us.  That was NOT discussed.  We all have to continue to meet, to shout and to demand that all of Chiriqui has the police protection that the people deserve.  The new road through Potrerillos on to Rio Serena is now present.  Their sense is that this location in Potrerillos at that crossroad needs a serious police force ( that was stressed).  More of these gatherings WITH television and press will help !!!!.

Thanks Alison. We will be continuing with communications to high ranking officials and media.

  11. Meeting was moved to the basketball court down the street from the Zapadora.  There was a mixed crowd of local and expats of about 250.  Focus was Porerillos security which is sorely lacking.  Encouraging that 300 more policemen will be added to the Chiriqui forces.  A real police station needs to be built over there and that was discussed.  When that happens they will have National Police support ( it was not clear to me why that building was essential...but right now all they have is a small hut)   Athena the Deputada of Dolega District donated today her personal vehicle so now the policemen will have a car.  She said she was going to do her best to encourage legislation for the conviction of juvenile criminals as adults when they conduct serious crime.  They feel that when the pinch is on to catch these youths in certain areas, they move to others less protected as Potrerillos is.  Serious meeting. I saw no TV nor news cameras.  Those people over there need support.

Alison, was there any confirmation or denial by Officials of the release back into the community of the juvenile offenders who were involved in the Potrerillos crimes?
