  3. Phyllis, I edited your blog posting to convert the URL into a hotlink. That will make it a lot easier for readers to click and see the other content that you refer to. P.S., your blog postings are wonderful. Thanks.
  4. Replies to this topic but from a different forum have now been merged (consolidated) into this topic in this forum. For additional information about this action, please see http://www.chiriqui.life/topic/968-alto-al-crimen-news-release/?do=findComment&comment=3558. This topic as posted in the News Boquete forum has now been locked. Any further replies should be posted here.
  5. This topic in this dedicated News Boquete repository forum has also been posted by another member in the Home Security forum. Here is the link to the same topic in the Home Security forum: http://www.chiriqui.life/topic/967-alto-al-crimen-big-news-for-the-new-year/#comment-3442. To avoid what one member correctly called "bifurcation" of the replies to this topic, all replies in this forum have now been merged (consolidated) into the topic in the Home Security forum as referenced above. For the record, no member has done anything wrong or violated any of the CL rules. This situation is just a natural outcome from having an archival repository such as this forum. To avoid any further bifurcation of replies to this topic, this topic in this forum has been locked. If you wish to reply to this topic, then please click on the above link and post your reply to this topic in the Home Security forum.
  6. Bonnie, Classified ads cannot be replied to. That is because of strong member requests to configure classified ads like a newspaper. Please review the forum specific rules at http://www.chiriqui.life/topic/247-forum-specific-rules-for-classified-ads/. There is one exception to the prohibition of replying to classified ads, and that is the Concierge Services and Help Desk forum. It is for the above reasons that JohnF13's topic was moved to the concierge services -- specifically people can now reply to his inquiry. And then your reply was merged with his topic. As an aside, we have been assessing whether to relocate the concierge services to a different category (such as the topical forums) just to make it abundantly clear that it is a different kind of forum from the more typical classified ads. Feedback requested.
  7. Bonnie, Thank you for handling this topic as you did. Rather than going "off-topic", you linked the two together, but now have two separate topics going. Good job! For the curious, the other topic is a recent Alto al Crimen announcement of Franc Lugo coming aboard that group. See http://www.chiriqui.life/topic/968-alto-al-crimen-news-release/?do=findComment&comment=3482
  8. Keith, An interesting question. As I type this, we are in Mexico City having some real Mexican food. Wonderful flavors. I am told that Latin cultures, especially Panamanian, do not like hot (picante) foods. That is not our experience on this trip. Some of the foods are so hot that Marcelyn can't eat them. I am the food tester, protecting her delicate palate. Not a bad job to have. Why, oh why, can we not get good red meats at home like we have had here in Mexico?
  9. I forgot to mention that large circular dots can be displayed as large stars. That happens when there is a lot of activity on a particular topic.
  10. This question has been asked and answered. Please see http://www.chiriqui.life/topic/148-how-do-i-find-the-first-unread-post-within-a-forum/. In summary, there is a fairly large circular dot that displays when you click on the 'Unread content' link. You may also see that same large circular dot in the activity stream. The large circular dot is fairly large (talk about being redundant) and will be immediately to the left of the title of the posting (if there is unread content for that topic). When you click on that large circular dot, you will be taken to the first unread posting in that thread, regardless of how many unread postings there are. You will also see a fairly dark black line separating the postings that you have seen from the postings that you have not seen. Try this and let me know.
  11. The potential for this topic to go away from the purpose of this website is quite high. It has already wandered too far. Accordingly, this topic gets the honor of being the first to be "locked". No further replies in this thread will be possible. We remind our members of Rule #22 in the Terms and Rules.

  15. THE CONSULAR SECTION (AMERICAN CITIZEN SERVICES, FEDERAL BENEFITS, AND VISAS UNITS) WILL BE CLOSED ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 24 BEGINNING AT 12:00 AND FRIDAY, DECEMBER 25 The Consular Section (Visas/American Citizen Services/Federal Benefits Unit) at the United States Embassy in Panama will be closed to the public on Thursday, December 24 beginning at 12:00 for the Christmas Eve Holiday and Friday, December 25 for Christmas Day. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. No routine service will be available in the Consular Section. If you are an American Citizen and have an emergency, please contact the Embassy at 317-5000 and they will put you in contact with the appropriate officer. On Monday, December 28, 2015, the Consular Section will resume full operations with its regular schedule (please see http://panama.usembassy.gov).
  16. The U.S. Embassy in Panama City informs U.S. citizens that it has received a report of planned demonstrations in Panama City related to the anniversary of Operation Just Cause on December 20, 2015. One demonstration is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. in the traffic circle between Clayton and Albrook and continue to the U.S. Embassy. A second demonstration is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. on the Cinta Costera. All U.S. citizens are reminded to remain diligent in your personal security. U.S. Citizens should plan their travel accordingly and avoid all confrontations. Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations. For up-to-date information on security, Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department’s Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov. Further information on safety and security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the United States and Canada or on a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays). We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Panama enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at www.Travel.State.Gov. STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency. If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. If you are a U.S. citizen in need of urgent assistance, the emergency number for the U.S. Embassy/Consulate is 317-5000.
  17. Sooooooo glad that we got the photo gallery problem fixed. Otherwise this image would have been lost to us. Thanks for posting. This kind of photography makes my think about getting a good camera.
  18. Incorrect information. Can't explain with certainty why you received that kind of notification because it was an unplanned, undesired actual outage. The outage was approximately 3.5 hours; software upgrades typically only take a few minutes. Patches typically take only a few seconds. Possibly during the process of restoring our service, they stepped through various phases that could temporarily result in such a notification. Note that we have been through several "bug fix" upgrades during the past several days, so they were just restoring our software back to the same level that it was prior to the outage. We have also had one patch.
  19. Access to the optional Chameleon theme has now been denied to all members. This should prevent a similar occurrence for others.
  20. Wow. This was a difficult one. Thanks for hanging in there. Your patience is to be admired (I know, I am repeating myself, but you really are tenacious). My wife says the good guys always win. I now know what to do about the alternative theme option. Dump it from the system!
  21. Private messages (PMs) are an integral part of Chiriqui.Life (CL). Technically speaking, they are called "conversations" rather than private messages. The common moniker of private message just works better for most people. A PM is generally like regular email, except that it never leaves the control of the CL website. Recipients of a PM can only be other registered members of CL. They are delivered to the CL PM inbox immediately upon being dispatched. A PM sits in an inbox for each account designated until it is read. You can receive a notification when you get a PM (see below). There are at least four ways to initiate a PM and to start the addressing specification: You can create a PM most easily by doing a mouse over of the originator of a posting (see the upper left-most originator information in the posting), and then selecting "Message" from the bottom left of the pop up dialog. You can also initiate a PM from inside of a member's profile by clicking on the envelope looking icon and "Message" box to the far right of their display name. You can click on the 'message' icon in the far upper right of the home page (assuming you are logged in). . And finally, assuming that a Display Name "referral" is included in a posting, simply click on it. A "referral" is a Display Name preceded by an at-sign (@) that has been entered by the originator of a posting. For example, @Admin_02 is a referral link for one of the CL administrative profiles. Simply click on that highlighted referral link and the profile for that member is displayed; then use the second method described above to initiate a PM. A PM must have at least one recipient, at least one word for a title, and at least one word in the text body. The recipient(s) are designated by using the Display Name of each user. If you don't recall the Display Name in its entirety, then start first typing (slowly) what you do recall for the Display Name; the software will start trying to give you some options to select from. For instance, if you want to send a PM to me as the admin (Display Name of 'Admin_01'), start by "a", "d", "m", "i", and you will see the display names in a drop-down list that match what you have started typing. Then select Admin_01 from the drop-down list to send me a PM. To enter more than one person that PM, then after completing the first name just go for number two, then number three, etc. Typing of display names is not case sensitive. When the content of your PM is ready for dispatch, just click on the send button at the bottom of the window. PMs can have attachments, photos, etc., and incorporate all of the style formatting that a post can use. There is a lot more to PMs than what is in this reply. For instance, there is an inbox. You can create folders. You can save PMs and manage them by moving them to folders of your choosing. If you receive a PM and want to reply to it but wish to include a third addressee to the recipient list, you can do that as well. There are some icons close to your login name (upper right) that you may wish to become familiar with. One looks like a bell (for notifications) and one like an envelope (for private messaging). And finally, you can set your notification (the bell mentioned above) preferences such that you get an email letting you know that a new PM has been delivered to your PM inbox. Let me know if you have more questions.
  22. Alison, This website has the ability to support different "themes". Think of themes as style sheets that control how the content gets displayed. By displayed, think in terms of background colors, fonts, font sizes, etc. We have made one optional theme available (it is called Chameleon), but it is not the default. Please look at the very bottom of your display, and look for a "Theme" pull-down menu. It should be at the center bottom of the window; it may be in the bottom left of the window (which would indicate that you are not using the default theme). Be sure your theme is the default, and not indicating Chameleon. If your theme is not the default, then invoke it (do that simply be clicking on Default), and then run the photo upload test again. FYI, the default theme is the software vendor's theme, not a commercial alternative. Maybe I should disable the one optional theme (Chameleon) that has been installed. Hmmmm....
  23. Great suggestion. Done. Muchas gracias. You also wish to read a different reply in this same topic. Here is the link: http://www.chiriqui.life/topic/817-cannot-reply-to-classifiedmisc-post-and-others/?do=findComment&comment=2993
  24. Chris, There are multiple forums that have the word 'miscellenous' in them. Replies in miscellenous type forums IS allowed, except in the classified ads category. There is a blanket prohibition to posting replies in the classified ads category -- with one exception. That one exception is the Concierge Services/Help Desk forum. See http://www.chiriqui.life/forum/66-concierge-services-help-desk/. That forum is precisely where the kind of question that is being asked should be posted. It could also go in the miscellaneous topical forum -- whichever suits the poster. But that kind of question in a classified ad forum (other than the Concierge forum) will be moved to a more appropriate forum. All questions, including directions, should be put in the appropriate topical forum (possibly the miscellaneous topical forum) or the Concierge forum. Your choice. If you need more help, please ask.
  25. Dottie, It still appears that there is misinformation about the ability to reply to topics in certain forums. If you are looking for directions (seems to be the case here) or information, then such a posting does not belong in classified ads. Such an inquiry belongs in the topical forums. Replies are permitted in the topical forums, including the miscellaneous forum within the topical forums. There also is a miscellaneous forum in the classified ads. Different forum. Different rules. It is the classified ads that do not permit replies, including its miscellaneous forum. You should be using the topical forums. Maybe I am not understanding what the problem is. Please help me understand.
