  1. Attn: Jay Members of Chiriqui.life have little interest and seldom read any postings on Ning. We have moved on and enjoy more interesting and worthwhile information on this website.
  2. Is this "jam session" every Tuesday at Villa Cafe, BCP? Is there a coverage charge to attend? Is yes, how much money? Interested but confused.
  3. So when and where is this "jam session"? This posting needs more information.
  4. Tickets already printed? Isn't there another fund raiser scheduled? Forgot to check the calendar?
  5. We went to the new Seasons Restaurant at Lucero yesterday, July 19th. The gate guard told us the restaurant was closed and turned away six hungry people. I thought this place just opened on July 18th. And now closed one day later. What's going on? Anyone know?
  6. I agree that education and knowledge is the answer for improvement. Can't understand Bishop's position on this topic. As a sidebar thought, do these protesters expect ex-pats to continue forever with feeding the poor and helping the handicap population in Panama. If the "needy" group keeps growing (maybe because of lack of training and education) where does this all end and does the local culture impove? Of course not. Sounds like the present system of no education just perpetuates this subjugation of the undereducated.
  7. This sounds like another example of asking for money and never a report of how your donated dollars are spent.
  8. Apparently the dark cloud of negativity and unhappiness is still rampant on another website.
  9. The people at Mail Boxes, Etc. are a great asset to the Boquete community. Lots of services available at this location and always with a big smile.
  10. I'll add my dos centavos to this discussion and agree with Penny's suggestion.
  11. "0ver 32 child and teen pregnancies in Panama every day" and there is opposition to sex education. My, my.
  12. Just asking, has anyone seen a report about how many people showed up, how much money raised, how this money was used, etc.? Again, just asking.
  13. So the new Seasons Restaurant advertises and posts a photo of a fancy food item on another website. Too bad Craig Jacobs doesn't realize a Chiriqui.life membership is free (no charge for advertising to sell his fancy food). Gotta provide funding for that other web sight maybe. What I really don't understand is if the restaurant is already open or not. If so, then their announcement here gave the wrong date. What is the real story here?
  14. I agree that a polite exchange of different viewpoints (not criticisms) can make for interesting reading on a website. Also agree with your first paragraph. I get the impression that you aren't hearing my message. My message is not about your "right" to do anything, but rather suggesting that you contribute something of value. Yes, you have a right to think it, to say it, to write it, etc., but by putting it out here on a public website you are broadcasting your critical remarks to the world. Well, at least over 700 people. I seriously doubt that anyone really cares what your critical opinions are about Canadians. Maybe the Canadians that you are insulting care to the point that they could sue you. Hopefully not. And I don't know and don't care about "something which Lee invariably avoided". That has nothing to do with this situation. According to Chiriqui Life documentation, they want postings to respect others, not criticize or attack. Hope you have a great day.
  15. Esther, you could be correct about Walter's Ning comments. I don't know because I don't generally look at that website. I have, however, looked at your profile on CL yesterday. You've been a member since December, 2015 and have produced only four postings, all of which critique/criticize someone else's material. Other members experience certain things, or read a variety of publications and then post useful information here about those experiences or articles. I hope you can find the time to post content about things that affect those of us who live here. In other words, instead of critiquing/criticizing, might I suggest that you try contributing information. For instance, I never knew there was a SETI laboratory in Boquete until someone posted about it here on Chiriqui Life. Wishing you all the best.
  16. I enjoy the CL comments from Keith Woolford. Always well documented and current information. Too bad you have such a narrow view. If you don't enjoy his input then just don't read it. I think this website lets you automatically ignore someone.
  17. Sounds like there were a lot of sour pills in the recent rainfall in Boquete. Unhappy comments everywhere about political comments.
  18. Doesn't matter where the request is posted. If the person or organization is asking for my money they need to answer the W questions (who, when, where, what, why) so I can make my decision to support or not.
  19. This fund raising (request for money) situation just goes from bad to very bad. Ugh.
  20. Oops, did you miss the point? The communications channel used to convey a request is not the important part of these postings. These are public requests for donations (money). Not everyone knows all of the organizations and their prior vetting, if any. Also, organizations change through time. What is the difference between a fundraiser and a donation? Those result in the same thing, money going from one person to a group. Asking for information is not about being suspicious or negative. Transparency is the operative word in today's world. Everyone is entitled to their acceptable vetting thresholds for giving of resources, whether those resources be time, money, tangible goods, services, or knowledge/experience. For me, as one who does not subscribe to News Boquete, I see those requests here on Chiriqui Life. That's unimportant. Someone is asking for money and we all deserve current information about these organizations. Why wouldn't a legitimate requester be willing and able to share this information?
  21. Maybe some of us have been a sucker and gave money just because an organization asked for a donation. Never again. I think we should stop posting these incomplete requests asking for money. If an organization (or person) can't provide the full information ("bona fides"), they don't merit my reading their plea for help. I want to know who these organizations are with a representing person named for additional information, how to contact them, and a report of what/how money was or will be used. Are all these individual requests for money because Bid 4 Boquete went away?
  22. I believe this is called spamming. Hope your e-mail address was never used on "the other site".
  23. Thanks for the explanation, Penny. How can people expect others to give money to an announcement like this? It may be a worthwhile program, but doesn't deserve a second read to figure out the meaning or purpose. I understand the rule of "no do-overs". Maybe it is too bad you have to accept this kind of post and waste our time trying to figure it out. You have a difficult job, and I suspect that you get little public recognition for your service. I do say thanks and appreciate NB and your hard work for the community.
