  6. Spanish Classes with Renny start on Jan. 11, 2018 Jan 11 & 12 thru Feb 23 This is a fun easy class. If there is any practice or homework those with busy schedules will love having the option of doing it by email at their convenience. COST: $195 As many people know, Renny owned a language school in several locations in Panama, under contract with the Panamanian Government giving classes for them, and had one in Houston also. She is now offering three levels of Spanish classes in Boquete, Basic and Intermediate I and Intermediate II. These are professional instructions with an easy, clear curriculum and the correct sequencing of material. Location of the class is in Boquete The Basic Class is called Crash Course Spanish ****Class meets Thursdays and Fridays 9:00-11:15 a.m. It will get you speaking fast! It shows how the language is organized, and teaches the tricks of the language, pronunciation, cultural notes, phrases, vocabulary, speaking; fluid conversations, how to ask and answer questions. You will practice and share tips, create full sentences. Learn how to speak without conjugating verbs. Workbook is included. The Crash Course Intermediate Class **Class meets Thursdays and Fridays 1:00-3:15 p.m. You will USE your acquired Spanish language! You will speak in class, get tips for learning to listen and respond in "rapid fire" exchanges, pronounce the difficult, role play, learn word order, expand your vocabulary and engage in specialized classes to gain better listening skills. You will speak every day, learn a higher use of some verbs without conjugating, create interesting sentences, listen to songs, conduct interviews and give short speeches. Learn by doing. Each student will translate for someone. It's time to do better at understanding what Spanish speakers are saying BECAUSE… the class also begins to "Train your ear” as well as “Practice Speaking" all of this as you learn more and more Spanish fast; you build the confidence you need to converse with others. Workbook is included. Pre-requisite for the *Intermediate Class :Basic Spanish, no exceptions _____________________ *Intermediate Class To enter this class the following will describe your level of speech: You respond to simple, direct questions or requests for information, can ask a few questions concerning needs and wants, and are able to express personal meaning by relying heavily on learned or re-combined phrases, repeating or rephrasing what you hear around you. You know short and sometimes incomplete sentences in the present tense. At times you know you state things incorrectly, but gain confidence because the Spanish speaker “got” what you were trying to say. You may be hesitant or inaccurate, whereby frequent misunderstandings arise. When called upon to handle a variety of topics and perform serious functions you operate at about a 50% success range, and can sometimes respond in intelligible sentences, but cannot sustain full sentence exchanges. You know the meanings/translations (not the conjugations) of at least 75 verbs. FOR MORE INFORMATION GO TO THE WEBSITE: review the left border. WEBSITE http://crashcoursespanishwithrenny.com EMAIL: rennykranich@gmail.com Registration will be at the public library in Boquete on Friday, January 5th from 10:00-11:30 a.m. CHECKOUT FACEBOOK TOO. 7. How's that Spanish coming along? Why not resolve to learn / improve your Spanish communication skills in 2018? For those who already speak basic Spanish, I'll be offering individualized, private, one-at-a-time workshops to help people over their personal language hurdles. Are you... Tripped up by past tenses? Unable to foresee future formats? Feeling subjugated by the subjunctive? Unconditioned for the conditionals? Book smart but listening challenged? Or maybe just ricocheting between SER and ESTAR? Whatever your individual challenges may be, we can design a workshop to address them specifically. Beginning Jan. 15th, I will be scheduling individual 2-3 hr workshops to cover your most pressing Spanish problems. Email me to discuss your issues and strategize a plan. Also offering private personal tutoring for all levels on an ongoing basis. Very reasonable rates haven't changed over the years. Alto Boquete location near the highway. Email for details. Instructor is native English speaker with DELE certification at C1-2 level, a university degree in Spanish as a second language, and 5 years of tutoring experience to expats in Boquete. Waiting to hear from you! Charlotte Summers panamaprattle@gmail.com

  12. It's no surprise that when Joseph Pilates moved to the US in the late 1920's and opened his studio in NYC, his method was immediately embraced by the Professional Dance Community... The Pilates Exercise System provides a great work-out simultaneously working on many levels. Through awareness and concentration practitioners move slowly, steadily and smoothly, emphasizing precision of form and total control. Years ahead of its time, the Pilates system not only strengthens the body/mind connection, but enhances & stimulates the coordination of the central nervous system. Joseph Pilates designed his exercise method to strengthen his students' intelligence, turning- on a greater number of cells/receptors of the brain and central nervous system- not only during, but following the execution of his exercises. Basic Pilates highlights the fundamental movements of Classical Pilates; specifically strengthening the lower back and abdominal muscles, instructing correct posture through body-awareness & correct alignment, and strengthening and adding flexibility to the skeletal.muscles and the joints. It also highlights the necessity of developing and maintaining optimal balance. As we age, doesn't it make sense to do whatever we can to enjoy our lives and live most optimally? Isn't our health and bodily- ease our highest priority? Come to the Haven - Do Pilates! Get back to basics and take greater responsibility for your Health and Well-being. You'll be Grateful You Did! Ongoing Group Classic Pilates Classes are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30- 9:45 a,m, Do note- New Year's week classes will be on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. All props provided including small balls, stretchy bands, light hand weights, blocks, magic circles and mats. Do bring your own yoga mat if you have one- to be guaranteed two for when we go down to the floor. All student levels work together; each person listening to and honoring his or her body to determine their optimal range of motion. Quality of movement, not quantity or number of repetitions, is the focus. Classes can be paid for individually at $9 each for residents, $10 each for tourists, or one of two packages may be purchased- $30 for 4 classes to be taken in a month, or unlimited classes in a month for $72. Interested in checking out Pilates before entering a group class, or just not a group class person? Private sessions are also available by appointment. For more information and to schedule an appointment at a suitable time for your schedule, email Susan Clare, Certified Plates instructor, at the address below. *To experience the benefits of Pilates and to feel as though one is progressing, it is recommended each student attends class on a regular basis, at least 2-X weekly. Start Anytime!. After learning the basics, either continue coming to class for the group energy & momentum and the instructor's continual cueing and assistance, or begin exploring the world of Pilates on your own thru books and videos. However, start ...learning the basics in class and proceed utilizing the Pilates principles of control, breath, concentration, ease of movement, flow, and precision [good form]. 13. New Year, New You! Join us for some Fun Interval Training and get FIT for 2018! Interval training was named the top fitness trend for 2018. "Best of all, "it works," says Dr. Robert Sallis, a family and sports medicine physician with Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, in Fontana, Calif. The quick, high-intensity routines are designed to stress the body in all the areas affected by exercise, from the heart to the muscle to the metabolic system, and "all are pushed to the limit," Sallis says. The body's response to that is to function more efficiently, he says, so it allows us to get into shape quicker than moderate-intensity exercise. Sallis points to studies showing that just five to 10 minutes of high-intensity exercise can deliver the same results as 45 minutes of moderate exercise can. 15. Hi! Just a note to let you know that I'll be speaking at the BCP meeting on Tuesday, Jan 9th. I'm so excited to be returning to Boquete! When I was there a couple of years ago, you expressed interest in Cell therapy and I said I would try to bring it to Panama, rather than have your trek all the way to my clinics in Nassau or Tijuana. Well, I did try, but I was never able to overcome the legal obstacles to obtain an import license. Penny Barrett was kind enough to invite me back last year, but I had nothing new to offer you. We have just recently opened an office in Cancun, Mexico. While, it's still not as convenient as I would like, it's at least closer. A two hour flight from Panama City, instead of two days to Tijuana! So, I happily accepted Penny's invitation this year. I have never, before or since, enjoyed speaking to a group as much as I did at BCP. You are all delightful and I'm looking forward to seeing you again. Hope you can make it! Best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year! Judi Smith
  16. ENROLLMENT OPEN SEASON FOR THE ALTO AL CRIMEN/HOSPITAL COOPERATIVO MEDICAL DISCOUNT PLAN. --- FINAL DAYS ARE COMING UP DON’T MISS OUT ON A VERY GOOD DEAL! Hospital Cooperativo is the ONLY non-profit hospital in Panama. It offers a wide range of basic medical services and has nineteen affiliated doctors plus a number of psychologists and nutritionists. The medical plan has no age limits, no waiting period and no pre-existing condition restrictions. Discounts apply to doctor consultations, hospital services, hospital room charges, operating room services, prescription drugs at the pharmacy and emergency room services. Discounts range from 25% to 30% for most services and 50% for emergency room services. And the discounts are off already very low prices because the hospital is non-profit. There will be no Alto al Crimen table at the Tuesday market on Tuesday, January 2. However, please make your decision about joining the plan, read about it in the forum section of Boquete.ning.com and be ready to complete your enrollment quickly and efficiently. We WILL have a table at the BCP Tuesday market on January 9 and January 16 from about 9 AM until closing time about noon. These will be the last opportunities to renew your plan or to enroll for the first time here in Boquete. We are hoping that there will not be too many people who wait until the last day. If too many people wait until the last minute to enroll, there may not be enough time to process everyone. We are making arrangements with Hospital Cooperativo to accept enrollments in David and will provide a detailed announcement about that in the future. The hospital's contract is in Spanish, but we will have English translation copies available for you to read. We'll also have a list of doctors and their specialties and a schedule of the discounts. The charge for the plan will be $120 per person per year. Payments need to be in cash. A separate contract and information sheet will be required for each person. Also, a clear legible copy of each person's ID must be provided. Copies of Cedulas are preferred, but if you have a Pensionado Card or Passport, copies of them are also acceptable. Below is a copy of the information sheet we need to have for each enrollee. Please copy it, paste it into your word processor and print the number of copies you will need, You can complete the forms and bring them with you. That will make your enrollment work faster and better. Be sure to complete the form in clearly legible block letters. Your address does not need to contain detailed information because it is not used for dispatching ambulances or other emergency services. We need this form for both new enrollees and for renewals. If you happen to see me at the market on January 2, I’ll try to answer any questions you have, but we will not be set up for enrollments. 20. doshombrespanama.com Hola!! This week we have lots to cover so let's get down to the good stuff? Welcome to the 2 Guys menu preview. This will be our first menu for the 2018 year and we want you to check it out!! This week we will have Southern Buttery and Creamy Cheddar Grits. When was the last time you enjoyed this scrumptious meal? Did you have it for breakfast with bacon and eggs, did you eat it with sautéed lemon garlic shrimp and fresh herbs, or are you new to the grit eating community. This reminds me of a scene in "My Cousin Vinny" where Joe Pesci gets served some grits for the first time. Click here to see it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWC0sKCS5oA. Our grits are slow cooked for about an hour with Grass Fed Butter, Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese, salt, pepper, a little cream and a little milk. I'm going to go out on a limb but these may be the very best grits you'll ever eat in your whole life. Talk about crazy! BTW.. No instant grits here. Based off of some New Years request we are making Spinach and Artichoke Dip, Bratwurst sausage, Andouille Sausage, Slow cooked Texas Pulled Pork (BBQ included), Chicken Leek casserole, Southern Cole Slaw, Pumpkin Bread, Cream of Chicken Soup and a wonderful take on Panera Breads Cheddar Broccoli Soup. I Love this soup. We have made extra Pot Pies this week and for those of you looking for that Black Eyed Peas dish look no farther, Hoppin' John. Whoa... Our Smoked chicken and veggies were a bit hit last week as well as a delicious healthy dinner that's quick and painless. Finally our KimChi is ready and its awesome. I tamed the umami ingredients a touch and added an element of sweetness to balance out the very strong flavors. If you enjoy KimChi we think that you will really enjoy the authenticity of our product. If you would like to know what's in our "Gut Friendly" probiotic rich product please be sure to click on the "read more" option under the product through our website. What a way to start the New Year off. I think that we may be sporting the largest and most diverse menu we've ever offered. I hope that you see something you like. This Monday we will be delivering as usual and pick up times at our kitchen are between 2 and 5. So basically the normal routine. Check out our menu by clicking here: http://doshombrespanama.com/our-menu/ I know that I say this throughout the year but I really mean it and I want you to know how much we appreciate you. We feel so blessed to know you and are so thankful that you have opened up your home and your heart to our family stories and our cooking. Cooking is what we love to do and cooking for you is our highest honor. Thank you for allowing us to do that. . See you soon Eric, Cecelia, Chandler, Keira, Aidan
