  1. Again this Tuesday I'll be at the market with Hospital Cooperativo Medical Discount Plan cards to deliver to people who recently renewed or enrolled in the plan. I'll be walking around at the Market with a sign around my neck that says "MED PLAN CARDS." IF YOU RENEWED YOUR PLAN, YOUR WALLET CARD IS STILL GOOD, BUT YOU WILL RECEIVE A NEW PAYMENT CARD THAT SHOWS YOU HAVE PAID FOR ANOTHER YEAR. I'll attend the meeting at 10:30 and make an announcement there about the cards. Most of the time before and after the meeting I'll try to hang out near the stairway to the parking lot. Last week I was delayed after the meeting and missed some people. This week I'll be sure to be there right after the meeting. Please try to see me and pick up your cards. You need them, and I don't! Bob Gregory P.S. If yours is a new enrollment and not a renewal, it will be a good idea to make an initial appointment with a doctor of internal medicine to get acquainted, provide your medical history and establish a file. This way if you need urgent or emergency care later, there will already be some information on file.

  5. Great Beautiful Day Everyone, They say that a picture is worth a thousand words but what is a free sample worth? Yes, that's right this week at the BCP at the 2 Guys & A Cooler booth there will be free samples of our newest line to hit the market. We are calling it "The Sauerkraut Extravaganza!". We have been experimenting and perfecting the art of fermentation with various food items. This particular line (after many months) is finally ready and we are giving away free samples to anyone who wants to try the most daring and delicious foods at the market. If you have never had sauerkraut then we invite you to come out and experience "Kraut" for the first time. If you've had sauerkraut before and didn't like it, come out and give it a second try (for free). Some say that sauerkraut is a food that you either love or hate. Well, we are going to have to disagree. Sauerkraut is a food that is extremely versatile and making many different flavor profiles will give you options like never before. Imagine a Mexican Sauerkraut on you Fajitas or tacos. Think about a Caribbean sauerkraut on some fish tacos. What about a smoky sauerkraut on your hamburger or a ghost chili sauerkraut on your bratwurst or Ruben for a spicy surprise. We are not only thinking outside the box but we have completely thrown out the box for this one. Sauerkraut can easily be paired with any of your meals as a side or a topping (given the right flavor). So this week we are proud to bring to the market for the first time ever 9 different flavors of sauerkraut for you to sample (and buy if you want). We have expanded our ability to produce more sauerkraut and rather than making the same type over and over we have mixed it up a bit (or a lot). We will also be showcasing our new labeling and packaging with the unique Ferment Vent on it. This has been months in the development and has finally come to fruition. Here is this week's line up (click the name to read more about each one): Classic Caraway Sauerkraut Ghost Chili Sauerkraut Black Garlic Sauerkraut Smoked Apple wood and Hickory Sauerkraut Smoked Cumin Mexican Sauerkraut Fermented Beet Sauerkraut What's the Dill Sauerkraut Pumpkin and Cranberry Sauerkraut Spicy Caribbean Sauerkraut As you can see we've been quite busy. This line up is only the beginning of our new fermented food line. Next week we will be bringing to the market our authentic and traditional KOSHER Kim Chi. What makes ours different than everyone else's is our special Korean Spices that we use. Our Kim Chi uses Korean Gochugaru and Gochujang pepper which give Kim Chi its signature smokiness, sweetness, and flavor (spicy but not too spicy). Also we have added the Umami element of seaweed and shitake mushrooms to our stock as opposed to the briny shrimp that is traditionally used. You will love our new method of preparing this product as we have layered the flavors in such a way that the overall that the seasonings and vegetables work in a melodious way. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to serve the Boquete community and want to say Thank You for everything. Please remember that we have 3 coupons in the "ARF Coupon Booklet". The purchase of the booklet helps a worthy cause and our coupons alone almost pays for the entirety of the booklet. We have a coupon for a free brownie, we have a 50% off any entree (pick the most expensive one-no strings attached), also we have a buy 3 entrees get one free coupon (you get to pick the free item). All that we ask is that you use only one coupon per visit and if you preorder on our website simply let me know (in the notes section) which coupon you will be using. If you would like to see our complete menu please click this link below. This week we are offering more than 25 entrees of all types, many sides, salads, desserts, breads, and lots of extras. Click here to see our entire Menu Finally each week we put out an email/newsletter with fun ideas, stories, updates from our kitchen and so forth. 12. Reprinted from Newsroom Panama Tickets available from Felipe Motta in David or on the internet Canadian authored Panama musical debut A NEW MUSICAL set to make its first public performance in Panama on February 1 has already entered the record books with a series of “firsts” and if the dreams of its authors are realized, more records are on the way. Panama The Musical, the first featuring the country was created by two Canadian expats, Rob Brown and Yolanda Van Der Kolk, who both have Panamanian citizenship had been active in entertaining English speaking audiences in Coronado with dinner theatres. A request for something with a musical flavor led from drafts for a one night show, to a four-year immersion in the creation of a full-scale production that could take the performance to stages far from its launching pad in the Teatro Ateneo in the City of Knowledge. Co-writer and producer Brown has used his promotional talents honed as the creator of the Arts Marketing Company in Canada and the US to line up a team of talented experts in musical stage production while networking with theatres in Toronto, London and the US, to advance the production onto the world stage. Some of its theme music has already made its debut in London, and the show could be on the road to Toronto by November. Supported by Panama’s Tourism Authority it could also become an ongoing tourist attraction, emulating in its own way Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap”, which, after a 65-year run in London is still a must-see for thousands of visitors each year. Brown visualizes staging the musical in Panama during the peak tourist season each year, targeting visitors with the theme “You haven’t seen Panama until you’ve seen Panama the Musical”. The production in English with some Spanglish intertwined is set in the “Roaring Twenties” some nine years after the completion of the canal. Dances like the Charleston, the foxtrot and black bottom were the rage, Jazz was becoming mainstream and the wondrous new fad, radio was spreading all things American to the world, and nowhere more so than the isthmus with its Canal Zone, packed with Americans whose culture and influence overlapped into the local community, setting the stage for potential romantic interaction, and the theme for the musical. Ave July 4 (Avenida de Martires) bordering the Zone was the center of nightlife, and jammed with bars, cabarets and more dubious entertainment designed to syphon dollars from the pockets of “gringos” but also providing opportunities for those with dreams of making it big in showbiz. Melody Melody a young American would be songwriter and Tito a Panamanian musician join together to try to win a US broadcasting competition, but their hopes are dimmed by the intervention of a local cabaret owner who blackmail’s the songwriter’s younger sister into working for him. The struggle to protect her sister while advancing her career and romantic aims provides the plot for Panama’s first homegrown musical. The team that Brown has assembled includes Composer playwright, Robert McQueen, who was Associate Director of the musical Mamma Mia on Broadway. MonaLisa Arias Monalisa Arias recently returned to her home country from the United States sees the production as her biggest challenge while opening the door to her greatest professional achievement. Maestro Dino Nugent and international music supervisor, David Warrack are the musical directors. The cast of Panamanian artists and musicians, will blend Latin dances and tempos with the music and dances imported from the north “Think Moulin Rouge meeting West Side Story on the Panama Canal” says Brown. The cast includes recognized Panama performers like TV personality Gaby Gnazzo (Mama) and Julio Barsallo (Tito) and newly discovered talent like Alexandra Córdoba (Melody)
  13. "The Clubhouse" in the BCP Hex Room is before and during our movies. Food and drinks - including popcorn - are available for purchase. ------------------------------ We don't charge admission, but we do ask for donations to support BCP and the Film Club program. February 4 - Everything is Illuminated (USA - 2005) February 11 - Amargosa (USA - 2000) February 18 - Honeydripper (USA - 2008) February 23 - No Movie (Jazz & Blues Festival at the feria) ---------------------------------- This Sunday, January 28 @ 1:00pm - Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World (USA - 2017) 1 hour, 43 minutes Ratings: 7.9 - IMDB, 89% - Rotten Tomatoes, 3/4 - Roger Ebert This documentary film was named after "Rumble" a simple but powerful 1958 rock & roll instrumental by Link Wray, an East Coast rock & roll musician who was a Shawnee Indian. It was one of the first records to use "power chords" which later became a staple of many of the hard rock styles. At the time the record was released, I was nearing the end of my sophomore year in high school in Chicago, and liked Rumble the first time I heard it. I never knew until I read about this documentary that Wray was a Native American. The record was released in April, 1958, and climbed to #16 that summer. According to Wikipedia, it had a major influence on many later rock and roll stars. If you never liked rock and roll, you probably won't enjoy this documentary. In my case, even though I was an usher for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra when the 45RPM single "Rumble" was released, I have enjoyed a very wide range of music most of my life, from classical to pop to rock & roll and even. From The Los Angeles Times: Link Wray's 1958 single "Rumble," a guitar-driven instrumental, was banned from key U.S. radio markets for fear that its loping, wordless swagger would encourage juvenile delinquency. [Plus the fact the "rumble" was slang for gang fights.] The grab-you-by-the-solar-plexus track has galvanized generations of rock and punk musicians. It's also a potent entry point for Catherine Bainbridge's new documentary, a vibrant survey of a criminally overlooked aspect of American popular music: the crucial contributions of Native Americans. Wray was a North Carolina Shawnee with childhood memories of Ku Klux Klan terror. A conflicted combination of artistic expression and the need to hide is at the core of Bainbridge's film. While celebrating the music and ethnic heritage of Wray and nine other performers, she and co-director Alfonso Maiorana show that many American Indians chose to identify as African or Mexican. Not every chapter in the loosely organized film delivers the punch of its eye-opening early sequences, which explore the infusion of indigenous rhythms into the blues of former slaves. But there are compelling mini-portraits of stars — Jimi Hendrix, Robbie Robertson — as well as figures who aren't household names but whose influence runs deep, among them Delta bluesman Charley Patton and jazz singer Mildred Bailey. With its rich range of genres, personalities (including the late great activist-musician John Trudell) and political history, "Rumble" could easily fill an extended series. Inevitably cursory, it's nonetheless a fascinating introduction to the ways that core components of Americana wouldn't be eradicated. Or silenced. 14. Two days ago a cute, friendly kitten wandered into my yard. She has clearly been someone’s cherished pet. She is about 4 months old, used to being inside and outside. She was very hungry so I fed her and kept her in my guest bathroom for the past 2 evenings. She slept quietly there until morning and after eating, she was happy to go outside for the day. Today she played in my yard while I was gardening. She is snuggled in my lap as I write this. Please contact me to claim your precious gatito. Kat McKay 6604-7201
