  4. Family of the Month- March 2018 Meet Abraham and His Family In the Volcancito area, Abraham and his wife Felicidata raise a large family with kids ranging from eighteen to three years old. Abraham works as a maintenance man at a nearby business, and Felicidata handles the domestic work of this big family. The older children attend school, and get good grades they proudly tell me! Felicidata admits that with eight children, not all of them favor the nutritious Manna pack provided by Buenos Vecinos de Boquete, but that most of them enjoy it, and she believes the product contributes to the overall good health of her family. The other food items contributed by Buenos Vecinos are eagerly anticipated each month. Pictured in the photo are Abraham and Felicidata and their children: Daira (18), Edgar and Belisario (13 and 12), the twins Marzuela and Macario (11), Rene (9), sweet little Christina (7) and baby Abraham, a growing 3 year old. If you would like to help families like this and the efforts of Buenos Vecinos de Boquete, your financial support would be most appreciated. 10. 10:30 in the BCP Theater Tuesday, March 6 – Stressed? Interpersonal conflicts? Cope better by learning to “Surf it!” Stress is a normal phenomenon of life; without it boredom would set in; but too much of it causes health problems. The latest research indicates that it’s not stress, per se, that causes problems, but one’s attitude towards it. There are many techniques offered to ‘manage’ stress, to avoid or release stress, and a new model of ‘stress surfing’ created by a Russian psychiatrist that offers a way to ride the energy wave of stress and benefit from it. This talk will present research, insights and simple but powerful techniques based on ‘stress surfing’ to help cope better with stress and interpersonal conflicts, which are often sources of stress and challenges. Dr. Theo Cope has presented workshops on ‘stress surfing’ to embassies, international companies, patients, parents and students while living in China and he is part of an international “Stress Surfing” network. 13. "The Clubhouse" in the BCP Hex Room is before and during our movies. Food and drinks - including popcorn - are available for purchase. ------------------------------ We don't charge admission, but we do ask for donations to support BCP and the Film Club program. March 4 - Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri (USA - 2017) March 11 - Mountain (Australia - 2017) March 18 - Mudbound (USA - 2017) March 25 - Coco (USA - 2017) ---------------------------------- Sunday, March 4 @ 1:00pm - Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri (USA - 2017) 1 hour, 55 minutes - Rated "R" Ratings: 8.3 - IMDB, 92% - Rotten Tomatoes, 4/4 - Roger Ebert We will resume our film series with a very well received film that many people expect to win Best Picture at this year's Academy Awards. From TheAtlantic.com: A teenage girl is brutally raped and murdered. After months pass without any progress on the case, her mother takes matters into her own hands. She rents three billboards outside of her small town, indicting the local police chief: “Raped While Dying”; “And Still No Arrests?”; “How Come, Chief Willoughby?” It is easy to imagine the movie that might have emerged from this premise in the hands of a typical writer-director: the noble parent; the inept or uncaring police chief; the slow, orchestrally underscored march toward some form of justice. But Martin McDonagh is not a typical writer-director. And Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is assuredly not that movie. Rather, it is a film that continually complicates and recomplicates itself, denying viewers the comfort of easy moral footing. It is by turns heartbreaking, harrowing in its violence, and very, very funny, and it features Oscar-level performances by Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson, and Sam Rockwell. It contains both the most moving scene I saw in a theater this year and the most mordant bit of black comedy. Though it’s set in a (fictional) town in the Midwest, it exists very much in the moral terrain of Flannery O’Connor’s bleak, existential humor, as is made clear by the fact that we first meet one character while he is reading “A Good Man Is Hard to Find.” Even for fans of McDonagh—and I am certainly one—Three Billboards is a revelation, and among the very best films of 2017. 14. American writer Fredric Alan Maxwell is a New Yorker-profiled New York Times Magazine-published author whose last book, Bad Boy Ballmer: The Man Who Rules Microsoft, was translated into seven languages, including German, Russian, and Chinese. Fred will be reading about his experience being investigated -- and cleared -- by the US Secret Service while writing that unauthorized former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer biography, which garnered a humorous handwritten fan letter from Hillary Clinton. He'll also read the preface and first chapter of his work-in-progress, Van Man, about living in a Ford cargo van all over the United States for five years. After reading he will take questions from, and ask questions of, the audience. Fundación Biblioteca de Boquete Tel. 720-2879
