  1. I just got off the phone with a representative with Copa airlines. She spoke to her supervisor to confirm what is on their computers regarding entry requirements for Colombia. They said presently there is a Yellow fever Vaccine "recommendation" but NO mandatory requirement. She suggested checking with the Colombian Embassy to make sure. This from WHO: http://www.who.int/ith/ITH_country_list.pdf scroll down to Colombia. Same as what Copa told me. I have an email request to the embassy if anything has changed and will report back.
  2. That is great info and as you stated very easy to confirm by doing a google search. If one is going to put news information out to the public as a community service then they should take on the responsibility of vetting the accuracy and truth of the information. It is not difficult to do.
  3. Was this on the Volcan side or Boquete side? I doubt that "guide" will be popular any time soon! We hiked the Boquete side yesterday and the road that has been graded is a big improvement and we really did not see a lot of environmental damage because of it. We did not see any rescue activity and the weather was perfect. We signed in and saw in the book a good 2-3 dozen folks already on their way up. Lots of hikers coming down and more 4 x 4's going up and down as well. We only went to 8000 feet. The zip line facilities that were being installed last year have been abandoned. Finca El Oasis is still closed up and no sign of life. ( Last year it was supposed to be re-opening soon.)
  4. I think science has the proper handle on all this. 6. Just hiked the Pipe Line Trail yesterday and two-foot bridges have been completely wiped out by the looks of a massive mudslide. We hiked this trail in February and it was normal. Strange for this to happen in the dry season.
  7. Uncle Doug, What stock market exchanges are open on the weekends?
  8. We agree. In general, the Panamanian people are very courteous. ( Except for many drivers!!) Marcelyn may have as you say, experienced an incident or two that is not of the norm!
  9. Great suggestion! Perhaps a gas station can allow a little section on their property for such an event? Value Motos car lot in town would be another great place!
  10. We just filed our US taxes with our US-based CPA that specializes in expats. There is no requirement to claim your foreign bank account if you maintain a balance of less then $10,000 a year. See IRS form FinCen 114 for clarification and exceptions.
  11. Had lunch here yesterday. A very pleasant surprise! Very big space, large selections on the menu, drink menu, beer, and wine. Great service and the food was surprisingly good for a chain restaurant. Will definitely go back and try other items on the menu. The menu has a large selection and pages so we could not get photos of it. http://www.oh-toro.com/ https://www.tripadvisor.es/Restaurant_Review-g298430-d13206658-Reviews-Oh_Toro-David_Chiriqui_Province.html
  12. For the sensitivity of the family and friends, unless you have words of condolences, nothing else needs to be said or questioned.
