Yes, Keith, the designated exit at the Oasis end of the parking area was blocked by that large Toyato pick-up. Other car owners were sort of practicing "free parking" in the lot. We felt sorry for the attendent (Frank?). Poor man was doing his best to guide the traffic; not an easy task. We managed to leave the premises without damage. Guess it was a good day after all.

We tried to attend this presention by Penny Ripple re "Trips around Panama" in the BCP this morning. Every chair was occupied by the time we arrived. People were standing in the exit aisle. A suggestion was that we sit on the floor in front of the stage or the steps in the audience area, but we declined. (I would have needed help to stand up after the talks ended). We left home early for the program; the real problem was a white pick-up truck in the parking area blocking both the entrance and exit. Several cars had to back-up, vehicles needed to halt off the bridge; some managed to turn sharply to avoid a near miss. We finally got past this congestion and found a parking spot on a side street. All of this took the bigger part of an hour plus listening/talking to a bunch of angry people about this situation. Sorry Penny. Hope the program was successful. Maybe next time for us. Nothing succeeds like success. The person selecting the topics for the Tuesday talks is doing a fantastic job.
  3. Goodness, very heavy rains, thunder, lightning during the last few days and now a meteorite. We just returned from seeing a friend whose house was near struck by lightning. She said it felt like the strike hit the living room. Destroyed her modem, two days with no water, lost TV access, and lots of mud and sizable rocks rolling to her driveway. Nature always wins I reckon. What next?
  4. Dottie: Not sure how I missed the Skypower Energy article you posted on Delphi forum. I'll try to be more careful. Think you are performing a real service and doing a good job with your website. Keep at it, lady.
  5. I wonder if Boquete's Mayor Emigdio Walker knows about Skypower Energy project? I like our Mayor and think he is doing good things for our town.
  6. Thanks, Keith. Saw this dialogue this morning and those ribs look delicious. We will give this restaurant a try.
  7. Here is some information about Skypower Energy building a solar panel establishment and university here in Panama. This program includes scholarships for Panamanians. The research that we just now did was based on a recommendation of CL member Jim Tosch in another thread on this website. If interested in more details, please click here: http://www.skypower.com/skypower-announces-500-mw-of-solar-energy-projects-in-panama/ This has widespread implication for business and environmental impact. More jobs? Cheaper electricity? Less dependence on petroleum based energy? Scholarships for the youth of Panama. Etc.
  8. What a priceless fountain of information available from these people. I'm glad they are willing to share their expertise. Thanks to both our Pennys (Penny Ripple and Penny Barrett) for making this program available.
  9. Jim: what about Canada's commitment to building a fifty million dollar university in Panama? What is the major area of study for potential students?
  10. Keith: the next time we drive to David we'll try this route. PS. You always know and share a lot of good information. Thanks.
  11. I too hope the developer of "Federal Mall" will arrange an appropriate access to and from the autopista between Boquete and David. Otherwise, does anyone know an alternate route from Boquete to David? Traffic could get very busy in this area.
  12. Bud and I recently drove from Boquete to Panama City. A total distance of 480km. Our vehicle "Rosie" (2007 Toyota Fortuner) used approximately 2/3 tank of diesel for this trip of almost eight hours. We made two stops. One for lunch at Santiago and the second was a "comfort" stop at Coronado. It has been several weeks since the last time we made this journey. Both of us were pleased with the improvement of the roadway. Construction is continuing and much more work is needed, but the amount of progress is impressive. The worse part is 50km immediately west of Santiago due to the construction and pot holes.
  13. I agree this level of roadway vs sidewalk is not friendly and I think even dangerous adding to difficulty in parking along the street. (Suppose this may be the reason those small yellow cars just stop in the middle of the street to allow passengers to exit the vehicle?) You think?
  14. Great job, Phyllis. Thanks for adding this resource to Chiriqui.life.

I visited the Boquete Biblioteca recently and marveled at the photography display by the Boquete PhotoGrafia featuring works by Howard Hill. My favorites were Grateful for the Light (number 11) and Antigua Arches-Guatemala (photo number 1).
  16. We ate lunch at The Buffalo House (TBH) in David yesterday (a Don Ray Williams recommendation). We ordered chicken tenders and onion rings. Both were well prepared, tasty and served by the restaurant's manager, Pedro. We'll return for another serving of those onion rings, the best we've eaten recently in Chiriqui. The eatery was clean; well stocked with supplies like napkins etc. All tables were occupied once we were seated, which tells us that TBH is popular with the locals. The Buffalo House is located on Inter-American Highway in the Swiss Plaza, across from a Terpel station under renovation, and a block north of July Sporting Goods store.
  17. If you were not at the Boquete Library (Bibllioteca de Boquete) yesterday - Saturday morning, you missed a great opportunity to hear the interesting presentation by Chalo -- you know, the wood carver. The unique statues located around town are gifts to the people of Boquete. His first carving is located near Cafe Ruiz. Each statue is Chalo's inspiration and has its own story. Chalo and his son David offer art/carving tours telling how they locate wood, often along rivers and roadways, but never involve the cutting down of trees, and proceed to make these monuments. Chalo describing some of his inspiration based on the shapes in the wood that he is working with. Chalo's first monument, which is across the street from Cafe Ruiz. Chalo's business card, showing his company logo and contact information.
  18. I'm sure Boquete dwellers noticed heavy rain with nickel size rain drops falling this afternoon. While driving downtown we saw a lady almost fall into on-coming traffic as she attempted to get out of her car then step across or over the rushing water running along the street. This situation emphasized the elevated drive area and trying to reach the sidewalk which in many cases is several inches or a foot plus lower than the roadway. Anyone know why this sizable difference in height between the street and walkway? And can anything be done to make this more safe?
  19. Noticed a sign with the word CRAVE out front of location where The Chiriqui Farm used to be located. Lots of cars in the parking lot when we drove to David earlier today. Does anyone know about this place? What is it?
  20. Thanks, Jim. One of the taxi drivers already told me this.
  21. Penny. Possible to include this area in your travel presentation next week?
