  1. How true......especially those little yellow cars
  2. Reba Smith would be fine with me. Perhaps a store plus parking.
  3. We drove to David recently and noticed north of town a very large (think in terms of huge) construction project. It is on the right side while traveling south toward David. Looks to be several hectares involving many workers and lots of big equipment. Anyone know what this is about?
  4. I like this suggestion. A parking garage would elimate some of those cars parked on the streets, double parking and make it safer to drive in town.
  5. I like the Mayor's idea for settling this problem. Seems to me if this semi-finished structure remains there much longer, it will be a tear down anyway. Such an ugly "almost a building" in the middle of town. Have to wonder what Mr. Garrido hopes to gain with his approach.
  6. This structure is a fiasco right in the middle of downtown Boquete. Wish someone would push the resolve button.
  7. Is there a UNO Express office in Boquete? Location? Thanks
  8. Keith you bring up a very good topic re lack of parking here in Boquete. As people (many?) move into this area, limited parking can only be a bigger problem. The large shopping area being completed near Romero market will mean more crowds in the downtown section. Do you or anyone else have information about the unfinished structure just north of Mail Box Etc.? This is a valuable space but not usable for the past few years. Do you know who owns this property or maybe why our Mayor hasn't resolved this problem?
  9. We parked on the side street next to Sugar & Spice, ran thru the rain and arrived at Parmigiano Ristorante. Enjoyed pasta carbonara with a side of garlic toast. Quick service, friendly and accommodating wait person, great drinks (especially the homemade lemonade), tasty food--all in nice environment. Staff indicated they are aware of the lack of parking and are talking to the owner of the property behind their restaurant. Another great eatery in Boquete, opened now for about four months. They do accept credit cards - Visa and M/C. Bottom line here is that we will definitely be returning for more Italian food.
  10. I agree, Bonnie. Besides the costs that may be paid by the Panamanian government, I can't remember how many times we've been asked to donate money for someone's medical expenses. Many of the requests are for people we don't even know. We had a bad experience in Mexico early this year which involved a bit more than a week in a hospital. Great hospital and staff--wanted full payment before we checked out. Glad we had insurance or I'm not sure how this would have ended. (There was no one to ask for a money donation.)
  11. Thanks John. This reminds me of the jazz clubs and wonderful street performers in New Orleans. l'll just add that while living in Colorado I had the joy of seeing Louie Armstrong, Ella and several other jazz greats. The weather was snowy. This troupe had to land their plane in Colorado Springs and travel many miles by bus. Didn't start the concert until after 1:00am. There were several hundred people in the audience and I don't remember a single person leaving the building until after the concert ended in the wee hours (myself included). Good memories. Thanks again.
  12. I invite all businesses to place their advertising on CL (use either the blog or forum). We recommend using the blog channel because it provides more control to the blog owner. Check out the work done by Boquete Art Cafe as a sample. As the man on US television said : "Free is a very good price".
  13. So where is parking for Parmigiano? We tried to go for lunch yesterday and decided to move on to a different restaurant because we didn't want to park in another vendor's area (like the car wash across the road).
  14. John. I enjoy Dixie Land jazz ( Louie Armstrong and Miss Ella). Anything like this music included in the 2016 BJBF artist lineup?
  15. I didn't know it was possible to have Part A and not also enroll for Part B for Medicare. I've always had both and thought they only came as a pair. Maybe I couldn't have purchased my supplemental health program unless I had both A and B coverage. Possibility?
  16. I know some people are anti-cropping, but I don't like the looks of a beautiful Doberman with "flop ears". Just my opinion.
  17. I think you are talking about the transfer of the registration of a vehicle from one city to another. Have no experience in this transaction, so I'm no help. Perhaps Keith Woolford can answer your question.
  18. For anyone who did not attend the BCP Meeting this morning (Rodny Moreno talking about RodnyDirect and related services) and/or did not know about this, there is a 24/7 medical ambulance service located in Boquete across the street from Mike's Grill. See attached brochure in English. Jhave Rafan Ambulance Service Brochure.pdf
  19. I've eaten Gnocchi in a delicious soup served at Olive Garden restaurants in the US. Will give the Parmigiano folks a visit soon.
  20. This is my first time being involved in getting car inspection (revisado) and car license plates (placa) for our vehicle. I learned there are various stations in David for car inspections (most work Monday - Friday only and charge $15 to $17. One station soon in Boquete located across from Banco Nacional.) Now open? The revisado is valid for 5 calendar days from the the day it is issued. Since our inspection in David was last Saturday, it was already day 3 when we paid a bit less than $40 to the tesoraria and walked away with new license plates. Always the same numbers on the plates year after year of new issues. Transactions must be done in person yearly. If you miss this 5 day window, the inspection must be repeated plus re-payment of course. Failure to complete this process each year (during the same month car was purchased and not before or after this one month opening) nets a fine for the car owner. Hope this may be useful to folks new to the area.
  21. Woody. Good idea re possible role of AAC. I look forward to this organization getting a new start. Hopefully in a short time Bob Gregory will announce more details on how they plan to proceed. I, too, do not want AAC versus Rodney Direct. We need both groups providing their special talents and effort for our community.
  22. Sometimes I feel so inadequate. One of the recent discussions with friends involved the definition and difference between "complete" and "finished". I wasn't secure with my answer. Doing research later, I learned at a recent London conference Mr. Balgobin (Guganese linguist) was asked to define "complete" and "finished". His response was "when you marry the right woman, you are "complete". "If you marry the wrong woman you are "finished". Wish I had thought of this answer during the discussion with my friends.
  23. Enjoyed a pizza from Baru Restaurant today. Ordered a large combination for three people and had left-overs to send home with our guest. Good pizza and lots of "toppings".
