  1. JudyS Your are right. This requirement are for people travelling from some countries listed with this kind of diseases or problems. There are vaccines requirements, not only for yellow fever but also for some other endemic diseases. Even as a Panamanian if I will travel to those countries I should have the vaccine taken here and have that in my travelling documents when returning back to Panama. I travel frequently to US, Central America and some South American countries without any problem.... unless they have an outbreak of any disease and the local health authorities place the requirement for vaccines.
  2. Very slow. I blame our legal system and lawyers. There were so many loopholes in our present legislation that allowed lawyers to use dilatory tactics in the process that delayed the trials and the legal process. The new SPA systems that is being put in practice in Panama little by little is being supposed to end this bad practices and be quicker in the legal process.
  3. Some PURIST in Panama's society claims that this is a cultural issue and should the left as it is because it is something inherent to Ngabe Cultural heritage. For me cultural stuff are their stories, their language, their crafts, arts, etc. This kind of way of justice shouldnt be considered part of a cultural practice and should be seriously addressed. Mayans and other tribes did human sacrifices and because it is their cultural heritage should we promote those practices?? I dont think so. But this is the recent discussion in Panama.
  4. JudyS It is not Panama. It is the Ngabe Bugle Comarca and the problem seems to be that they claimed it belongs to their culture and should be respected as such by the rest of the panamanians.
  5. JudyS Not only Martinelli but a lot of corrupt politicians we have in this country.
  6. It was a well written script and the acting was good. This production from Spain describe clearly the problem of the government agencies bureaucracy in Latin America.
  7. That is correct. We wanted to get rid of them but they are like cockroaches.... They appear suddenly from every crack available. Remember that the laws are made to protect criminals not decent people.
  8. This remind me british humour from Monty Python. A graphic live and 3D demonstration of Sex Education themes.
  9. In Panama, according to the law, they should count the money. They will fill some documents stating the amount of money and the name of the owner with ID information and so on. They will deposit the money in a goverment account. They give you the chance to prove the source of that money. If you satisfactorily prove that this money is product of your savings, a sale of any property or money you won at the Miami Lotto they will return it back to you. Remember that all this measures are asked by the DEA and the US Government to control money laundering from drugs business or terrorism. All countries should have this report and present them to the US authorities when requested.
  10. Hi TwoSailors No problem. I dont take things personally and always look at it with a very open mind. So, everything is ok. AS Bud said there could be some language barriers and also cultural differences that could lead to interpret things in other way. I always keep learning new things eveyday. In our latin culture a "piropo" very fine and educated, is just something that men says to women as a compliment. Of course that there are another type of piropos, specially at construction job sites that men said to women that pass by the street that are rude, vulgar and distasteful.
  11. If this is correct and true....it is a serious problem and authorities should be placed in knowledge of this thing. Unfortunatelly he hasnt done anything yet and authorities couldnt do anything based on assumptions but.... keep a close look at that.
  12. It is only for Panama City. The problem was that the repair on the electrical substation located in Condado del Rey area will take some days and they need to work on the system and any excess of the demand will affect the now affected system that is not working at its 100%. When everything is repaired it will return to normal operations.
  13. Bonnie You are right. I am happily married with 4 young adults kids and two beautiful grandkids. It was always a pleasure to have good words and compliments to a lady in a very respectful way. I cant get why it should be seen in other way than it really is.
  14. Please. A lady is a lady and a gentleman should always have good words and compliments to ladies in a very respectul way. It doesnt have to do with any "dating" situation. It is only being and behaving like a gentleman under the presence of a lady and should not be seen as a personal approach. of any means
  15. Bonnie You are a nice and good looking lady. Very elegant. Sorry If I am out of subject.
  16. You will not find here a solution for your immigrations problems. I think that you should look for legal advice with one of the good, honest, reliable and affordable lawyers a lot of expats round here have used succesfully and without any complain. With their guidance you could go step by step doing what is required and get a legal immigration status. You wont be the first or the last. Thousands people have done it before and are enjoying their stay in this little country.
  17. I think Spain will be good for you. A nice place to be. It is in Europe. A lot of history there. Every place you set your foot has a recorded history way back to more than 2000 years. Panama has a lot of retirees and will welcome all of them. The only thing they have to do is comply with all the requisites, regulations and laws and thats it. Easy. I am so sure that more than 75% of the Expats in Boquete are legal and did all the stuff they have to do to live here peacefully and quietly. Is that to much to ask?? Is that very difficult to understand?? Panama will be accepting expats for many years and will welcome all of them but legally.
  18. Keith follows more than me this type of news but according to what I have read and seen on the local tv news this is going out of proportions. People, specially young people are killing themselves on the streets in car accidents. By the way I have seen the cars totally destroyed I think that there is a common denominator in these accidents. High Speed.
  19. JIm Those statistics only get information of the amount of reports of crime. Thay is why a lot of panamanians dont trust on government statistics. Some people dont report all crimes. Also a few months ago the Minister of Security and President Varela were harshly criticized because the statistics they used to tell people that Panama's was safe and have the lowest crime rate in the region was Murders.
  20. Sorry but I HAVE TO WATCH TV NEWS everyday and have not seem it yet. Also I read almost all the newspaper everyday and havent seem it printed yet. Thanks,
  21. I am not sure and will need to look for the correct information but when the past governments in Panama decided to promote Panama as a destiny for Retired Expats I think that they never considered that people who will qualify and benefit from this plan will be advised to become eternal tourist. As much as I can remember the package says that people will benefit by getting their Status Residence as Retired or Pensioned and getting their E-Cedula. Also when promoting the friendly nations program and foreign professionals programs I doubt that the Panama's government will allow people to apply for those immigration programs by being as an eternal tourist in the country. Sorry but for me it is a confusion on the terms of tourist and immigrant and people taking advantage of this loophole in the current law. Now that this situation is under the radar of the authorities is because that it passed from a couple of hundreds people doing it to dozens of thousands doing the same. It is now very difficult to pass unnoticed. That the Immigration Agency in Panama is not doing their jobs accordingly: fast, easy and cheaper... I concede it. Something must be done there. That there are some lawyers that are no doing an ethic and good job for some customer I concede it a 100%. That is something that a large group of expats like yours could ask directly to our government officials. Complain about this and express your experiences and opinions to the government officials that you did it the right way to be legal but the system is not working as it should to make this possible for those expats who really wanted to do it correctly. The problem is that because the immigration grew out of proportion by some specific expats: "Pagan justos por pecadores." It is in english something like: "Pay fair for sinners".
