  1. Some folks told us "no appointment", but we did call (#6518-4127) and booked a firm appointment with Dra. Chely. Probably flexible hours, not sure.

A couple of items: The area in front and around her clinic is under road construction. A big muddy mess and when it rains, it is terrible. Can't drive to the clinic because the road is closed. Need to walk 5 to 7 minutes in road mud to her location. She said that the road problem is a three year project (if we correctly understood her words).

Happy with her professionalism and reasonable prices. She obviously deeply cares for her "patients".

Our intent was for Anouk to be an inside/outside dog. Seems she prefers to remain outside, including specifically sleeping on the concrete patio near Bud's office door. Given her history, this makes sense.  Her choice.

Here is a picture taken a few minutes ago. Note that Anouk is shunning the towels we put out as well. No bed. No towels. She apparently really likes concrete. Her choice.

So have you adopted her, or are you just fostering her?  I need to know to update her status on Pets Want Homes.

Originally we agreed to foster thru the end of August. I think she has captured our hearts so we would like to adopt her permanently.

She has calmed down considerably since arriving Friday. Anouk is getting along well with the neighborhood cat gang. Each is staking out their territory. It is fun to watch.

Anouk will decide if she wants to stay with us. We hope she decides in our favor. Please flag her in your report as "not available to anyone else".

She seemed to really enjoy the hugs and belly rub I gave her this morning after her Sunday Brunch.

  4. Hil: These specimens seem smaller and have less horn than the water buffalo I saw around water holes in Africa. Maybe those near Volcan are "crossed with cows".

Where do you find Mexican food in Volcan?

  5. A few years ago Bud and I attended a conference. Lots of good information, but the one "jewel" I appreciated was the saying "Go where you are treated best." We use this rule in just about everything we do; where we live, where we shop, our friends, etc.

When we first heard this "motherhood statement" at that conference, we thought "how trite". But then it started working on us. We were noodling the implications of those few words, and the result has been enlightening and liberating at the same time.

We frequently have choices in our lives, and this decision making rule works for us.

Right now this is our home and we love it.  We're not overjoyed with the home invasion violence that strikes us as on the verge of out of control.  We ponder that and I guess if push came to shove we would pull up anchor and head back to the states.  We always had that option open...

I agree with your thoughts regarding home invasions, violence is "...on the verge of out of control." Crime statistics may not be much better in the US (recent shootings in California, killings in Chicago, etc.) Maybe one big difference is how violent crimes are handled in Panama vs. the States. In the US, law enforcement personnel (police, FBI, Homeland Security. etc.) communicate progress and notify final results for criminal activity. Seems to me this communication step is sometimes missing for our local situations.

    Your sentiments are lovely too.

I will offer a mildly contrasting viewpoint.  For some of us, Boquete is one stop on a longer journey.  We don't decide to leave it because we hate it, but because there are other places we still want to experience.

Maybe we are all explorers.  I like your idea that a current location is just one stop on a longer journey.

Several of our friends are perpetual travelers all around the world. Periodic conversation with these folks provide new perspectives and a better understanding of what might be really important. I enjoy hearing their first hand stories about different cultures (living styles, food, dress); always a learning experience for me.

I stand corrected on the place he lost the money. It was NOT Panama. He lost over 9 billion on the chinese stock market (some of it probably in Panama).

No problem.  Thanks for the update.

Just interested in this project because of the possible financial impact for Panama as well as Nicaragua.
