  1. Finally, power restored at 11am. Possum blew the fuse on transormer around 12-1am this morning. Only took them 10 hours to reset it (fuse). lol Took out the entire neighborhood!!!
  2. Alto Dorado section off of main road west side. Still out.
  3. I got up at 1:30 and no power and went back to bed and slept until 5:30.. It's now, 6:09 and no power in Alto Boquete. Oh well. My PC battery says 4 more hours and I link my PC to my phone. Works good for me. I might give up paying Cabla Onda for internet.
  4. I was wrong Again!!! My computer was on Eastern Time and not on Columbia Time. Eastern Time in the USA is the same as Panama Time but not the same as Columbia Time. It did correct the time on the post when I changed it to Bogota Time. My apologies. Thanks Bud.
  5. Bud, I just figured it out. The Calender event has the wrong times and it shows up in Activity. Hil
  6. The times on this link are typed in the header. My time zone is correct on my PC. Are you seeing this in the above link? Wednesday 20 July 2016, 11:00 AM Until Wednesday 20 July 2016, 4:00 PM I'm not sure but this looks like a manual entry. I checked and the correct dates are listed on the other link you posted within the Embassy text and not in the header----10am-3pm. Just curious if anyone else is seeing the 11am-4pm in this link. You have two links posted for the Embassy visit.
  7. Bud, Your link to the Map for the Embassy visit gives a different time than the Embassy's notice. Which time is correct? Hil
  8. Some say the rains have started early this year. Going into my third rain season here I agree. Looks like La Nina could be very wet this cycle (possibly serious flooding and land slides) and have other consequences also. Seems like too much rain causes disease with coffee plants. La Nina appears more benificial than droughts. They both have their postives and negatives. IICA always has good information because they depend on rain for agriculture---the main source of substance for the populations and income in central america. http://www.iica.int/en/press/news/impending-emergence-la-niña-will-impact-agricultural-sector-central-america-and-dominican

    Water Buffalo?

I had seen these animals on my way to Volcan before taking the short cut to Volcan (Potreros road). This trip for Mexican food, I told the girl friend if I see them I'm stopping for pics. And, there they were in the same place last time I seen them. They are in the huge orange grove. I'm not sure if they are pure bred or crossed with cows. But, you can see the water buffalo in them for sure.
  12. Just use the DHL office for pickup and they won't have to look for your house. The addresses are not good here. Tell them to call you from the David DHL office.
  13. both directions from miami. if i remember right returning was the same or might have been quicker.
  14. I have used DHL in David two times. Once for Miami and once for Austin,Tx. Both times the package arrived within 24hrs. They tell you within two days but usually a package makes it there within 24 hrs. My packages always left david the same day and usually on the first available flight out of Panama. I don't know about the overnight shipping. Good tracking on the computer also.

    Win 10 Update

I committed to June 4th for the upgrade. Not a lot of difference with the interface. A few minor cosmetic changes. It does run faster. But, it defaults to window's new browser. I changed that back to my google chrome browser as my default browser. If enough people tells me microsoft browser has out done Google then I'll switch to windows browser. Right now I'm happy with google. Now we wait for the bugs to show up. This is normal with windows upgrades and any other platform. Having managed a computer network for a college and at one time trouble shooting for microsoft (agreement with college) on our network, this upgrade will surprise most users. Only the users that get too comfortable with one OS will complain the most. I don't like change with the OS either but this one is going to give mac/apple a run for it's money. Maybe not as good on security (personal security is the responsibilty of user not that of the OS or name brand)----Plenty of ways to secure your PC. Win 10 is operationally stable and user friendly and should be very good. Remember when Windows 8 and 8.1 first came out and they were seriously flawed. Not so with Win 10. I have read for months on tech sites and software engineer sites about Win 10. Most agree Win 10 will be the best from MicroSoft so far. It's a matter of quick fixes when bugs do appear--not if they appear!! lol The upgrade only took a little over an hour with 5mb speed. Good luck. I was programming DOS with Windows 3 and hated when Win 3.1 came out!!! These newer systems are really nice considering technology now days. Thank goodness Microsoft didn't go proprietary on PC's. NONE OF MY FILES WERE LOST ON THE UPGRADE.

    Vietnam

Vietnam 45 years and 20 days ago I came home. Would I do it again? NO WHY? This war had nothing to do with our national interest or in defense of our nation. Unjustified wars kill innocent soldiers and civilians. Are there justified wars? Yes. 45 years and 20 days ago I came home to the USA. Too many sleepless nights with nightmares in the past 45 years. Have a nice memorial day everyone. LikeShow more reactions CommentShare

    25 Months In Panama

Panama never ceases to amaze me. I mostly focus on how the country has treated me and how I can reciprocate instead of focusing on how I can change the country and the expat population. Panama has been good to me and I will continue being good to it. I am not new to countries outside of the USA so I haven't had culture shock since I was in combat in Vietnam. I've visited 13 countries and enjoyed everyone of them. Panama was first on my list to retire to because of the location, culture, weather and food. If a person came to Panama and is disappointed well that is not a bad thing. They tend to move on without disparaging people and the country. I don't compete with other people on "how long" I've lived here in conversation and knowledge. It's a great place to be yourself and enjoy the people and the culture. I usaully don't ask questions about what to do or how to do it in Panama because that would take the fun out of the journey. If I have a serious issue with NOT knowing what to do I usually ask a local or an expat that has been here a long time. Again, I do NOT soley rely on expats for information or advice. I am in "their" country and should seek their advice most of the time. I speak enough spanish now to have good Panamanian friends and it works well in the stores, etc. I tell myself all of the time-----This beats Vietnam or the Pine Box or being here in Dec. 1989. The Comarca---Tole, Panama
  18. Where did they send the ones that couldn't fly today? My guess, back to Gualaca or a hotel in David. Who knows.
  19. It looked like maybe 250-300 people at the immigration doors noon today, Sunday. Two huge bus loads. Maybe there on the way to the airport now. The office was open and processing people. Probably the Cubanos from Gualaca. Just a guess, who knows. Chiriqui news will talk later I'm sure. TVN later.
  20. Magic Jack is great for the price. There are a few others that work (the free ones) but not as good as Magic Jack. Never a problem with mine for two years. I use mine for talking with the Veterans Office and Social Security and don't need dropped calls. Never had a dropped call with Magic Jack. The vote is out on shipping---it's a gamble---not a problem with the shippers or packers---its Customs in Panama that is the problem most of the time. And, Magic Jack works on my tablet and cell as well a my computer.
