It was about this time last year that Ferrufino was busted for a DUI at the Caldera checkpoint when out on bail for alleged corruption. Guys like this only serve to point up the ridiculousness of a system which allows a 'Sorry, I can't be tried right now because I'm running for political office" routine. imo,the policy should be changed so that political aspirants must not be facing any criminal charges.

Here's the reason they ticket drivers for carrying passengers in the back of a pickup truck. This truck lost power going up a hill in Baru today and then weaved out of control as it rolled back down. One fellow died after he was pitched out of the box and run over by the vehicle. https://www.tvn-2.com/nacionales/provincias/Muere-activista-Partido-Panamenista-Chiriqui_0_5258474160.html

National Police officers went up to the summit today and re-painted the Cross. The vandalism was roundly denounced. -
Volcan Baru Hikers
Keith Woolford replied to Keith Woolford's topic in Tourism, Outdoor activities, Recreation,
Authorities are looking for some young people who defaced the Cross up there at the peak of Volcan Baru and then shared a photo of the act on social media. -
So far during Carnaval, 741 people have gone hiking on Volcan Baru. Dozens have required assistance because of the extreme wind and cold temperatures.

Regularly scheduled flights into Panama are too expensive. Tourists can find cheaper destinations with more developed activities elsewhere.

Carnival 2019
Keith Woolford replied to Moderator_02's topic in Tourism, Outdoor activities, Recreation,
So far the Darwin award for the 2019 Carnaval goes to this bull rider who died after being kicked in the head near Puerto Armuelles. "Sueltala" means let him loose.. It's a pretty safe bet that alcohol was involved. -
The level of Lake Gatun was raised significantly during Canal expansion. Maximum operating level of Gatun Lake Canal elevations are referred to using the Precise Level Datum (PLD), which is close to the mean sea level of the Atlantic and Pacific entrances. The maximum operational level of Gatun Lake was raised by approximately 0.45 meters (1.5 feet) from the previous PLD level of 26.7 meters (88 feet) to a PLD level of 27.1 meters (89 feet). Combined with the widening and deepening of the navigational channels, this has increased Gatun Lake's usable water reserve capacity and allows the canal's water system to supply a daily average of 165,000,000 US gal (625,000 m3; 137,000,000 imp gal) of additional water. This additional water volume is enough to provide an annual average of approximately 1,100 additional lockages without affecting the water supply for human use, which is also provided from Gatun and Alhajuela Lakes.[ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_Canal_expansion_project#Maximum_operating_level_of_Gatun_Lake The new locks also retain 60% of their water.

Anyone watch the debate concerning the purity of Boquete's water on Tuesday night? This would have been especially important for those who believe our water is "bad".
