  2. Pilates provides a great work-out simultaneously working on many levels. Through awareness and concentration practitioners think and focus on everything they're doing, not only strengthening the body/mind connection, but reinforcing and stimulating the coordination of the central nervous system. Pilates felt his exercise system strengthened his student's intelligence as more cells/receptors of the brain and nervous system were turned on during and following the execution of his exercises. CranioSacral Therapy is an Osteopathic, therapeutic modality also working with the central nervous system [CNS]. Based on the premise that all our experiences, our thoughts and our tensions are stored and recorded in the cells of our body, it gently assists the CNS to release these tensions and the restrictions they form, thus assisting the total organism toward functioning at a higher, more optimal level. As we age, doesn't it make sense to do whatever we can to enjoy our lives and live most optimally? Isn't our health our highest priority? Come to the Haven - Do Pilates and experience CranioSacral Therapy. Take greater responsibility for your Health and Well-being. You'll be happy You Did! Ongoing Pilates Classes 3 days weekly- Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, at 8:30-9:45 a.m. All props provided including different size balls, stretchy bands, blocks, magic circles and mats. Do bring your own yoga mat if you have one- to be guaranteed two for when we go down to the floor. All student levels work together; each person listening to and honoring his or her body to determine their degree of motion. Classes can be paid for individually at $8 each, or one of two packages may be purchased. $30 for 4 classes, or unlimited in a month for $72. To experience the benefits of Pilates and to feel as though one is progressing, it is recommended each student attends class at least 2-X weekly. Come Start Anytime! CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle hands-on treatment done on a massage table as the client is fully dressed in comfortable,non-restrictive clothing.A session is an hour in length. From now through October, Susan Clare, Certified Pilates Instructor and retired Fl. state licensed Massage Therapist with 30 years experience, is offering a free CST session to people residing in Boquete and desiring to experience what it's about. 3. After much evaluation (and a few tears) I have come to the decision to close the Fénix Cafe. The cafe will be operating and slowly winding down through the month of September. Previously scheduled events (including Mexican Train groups, Drum Circle, Belly Dance classes, etc) will continue throughout the month. I am deeply appreciative of the opportunity I have had to develop the Fénix. Not only were many invaluable lessons learned, but more so, authentic connections were made that go beyond the six walls of the Hex Room… relationships that will continue to grow and evolve. I am thrilled with all that has transpired, even if it was for a ‘brief flash' of 4 months. It was this time that has given me a chance to evaluate the cafe as a business, and also my own work-life balance. As much as the cafe has been a Labor of Love… I very much look forward to once again having the time and space to focus on other passions, in particular Yoga, Massage, and Graphic Design. Sometimes it takes a new lens to bring other realizations into focus. ;-) Yoga Boquete will continue to hold classes on its regular schedule in the BCP Hex Room, until further notice. I do not know what the BCP’s plans are for the space, but I hope it continues to develop into a shared community space. A big THANK YOU to all who have supported this endeavor. Remember, this is not goodbye… this a just another transformation … (That’s the nature of a Fénix , after all.) Much Love to All, Joy

  11. An important announcement for the residents of Boquete and the Chiriqui highlands area: The most viewed information on the Chiriqui.Life (CL) website is the Health Care Resources for the Chiriqui Province that was first published in March 2016. As of today, that topic has been viewed more than 5,700 times (that averages out to more than 10 accesses every day). To view this important health care related information does NOT require membership on the CL website. Anyone can view this valuable information at any time. This is perhaps the only publicly available repository of current health care resources for the Chiriqui Province. Where do you go in an emergency to get this kind of information? This listing is a homegrown effort that was originally compiled by Mary Lynah, a retired nurse living in Boquete; she no longer is able to maintain this resource listing. And so it is with great joy that the owners/administrators of CL are announcing today that two Boquete residents have volunteered to assume custodianship of this health care resource listing. The primary purpose of this announcement is to introduce Doug and Jo Johnson to the Boquete and Chiriqui highlands community. Here is a bit about who they are, why they are interested in taking on this responsibility, and what they hope to accomplish with your support. Doug and Jo Johnson have now been designated as moderators of the CL Health Care Forum. Their primary goal is to update, correct, and expand the Health Care Resource listing for Chiriqui Province as listed on the CL website. Doug and Jo moved to Boquete with their two cats in 2015 from Pennsylvania, although they really come from Texas where they lived for decades. Jo has a medical background in microbiology, parasitology, and immunology. Doug has a legal background. He also managed to break a leg, and then a hip, within the first year that they lived in Boquete, so they quickly developed a special appreciation for the health care resources and how to navigate the medical system in our area. They intend to personally contact each of the physicians, dentists, therapists, etc., within the listing to confirm the accuracy of the information and to add helpful new information. That's going to take some time, so it will be a work in progress. In the meantime, if you have any information that will improve the Health Care Resource listing now, please send it to them at health.info@chiriqui.life. If you are a member of CL, you can also PM (private message) them using their "Doug and Jo" display name. A collaborative effort will greatly assist in reaching the goal of a comprehensive and accurate listing. This announcement is about a new chapter in providing critical health care information to our special community. We are pleased, encouraged, and appreciative of Doug and Jo having stepped forward to help all of us live a healthier life. As indicated above, you may contact them via email at health.info@chiriqui.life, or via PM to their CL ID of "Doug and Jo". You can help them help you by providing contact information about health care resources that you are aware of and/or use and that is not currently listed (or perhaps outdated). Again, if you need health care information, simply click here Health Care Resources for the Chiriqui Province. You do not need to be a CL member to access this critical data, but we recommend that you join CL so that you can access all of the information contained therein. There is no cost to use the CL information portal. Simply click on the "Sign Up" icon in the upper right corner of the home page. We ask that you join us in welcoming and supporting Doug and Jo Johnson in their new moderator role. 14. Family of the month - August 2017 Meet Eva and Her Family Even though Eva was pregnant with her second child, she was very excited a few months ago when she found a job cleaning once a week in Potrerillos, a short bus ride from her home. With a little training she became quite proficient. Her employer found her to be a diligent worker and an enjoyable companion. But with the recent birth of her daughter, Sophia, Eva could no longer work and provide a little income to help support Henry, her six year-old son, herself and the baby. The children’s father does not help them and has moved from the area, so Eva has turned to Buenos Vecinos for the non-perishable food we supply on a monthly basis. Eva and her little family share a three-room zinc-sided dirt-floor house with her cousin Marina, who has three children (but also no support) and with her aunt and uncle and their four children. The house has no indoor water or electricity. But Eva has plans; she wants to learn a little English, gather more experience and eventually secure more housekeeping jobs. She hopes to someday build her own tiny bamboo house next to her aunt and uncle’s dwelling. But for now, she is just grateful to have the housing assistance from her extended family and food from BVB. Buenos Vecinos de Boquete depends on your support to feed and nourish families like Eva’s. If you would like to help families like this and the efforts of Buenos Vecinos de Boquete, your financial support would be most appreciated. DONATE ONLINE: http://www.buenosvecinosdeboquete.com/how-you-can-help We use PayPal for easy and secure transactions. IF YOU PREFER TO DONATE BY CASH, Please contact Louise Orr (panamaleo@gmail.com) for arrangements. When you make that important decision to help feed the less fortunate in our community, you have truly become a “good neighbor”. When you donate $360 a year or $30 a month (about the cost of a daily latte), your name will be added to our “Coconut Foundation” as an acknowledgement of your concern and generosity. Buenos Vecinos de Boquete’s wholesale purchase power enables us to furnish our clients more food than they could purchase on their own in the store with the same amount of money. Thank you!
  15. The owners/administrators of the Chiriqui.Life (CL) website are very pleased to announce the release of another in the podcast series that is called "Chiriqui Life Stories". 17. Great Day Everyone, I hope that all is well this week. We wanted to give everyone a sneak peek at our menu this week as it is quite possible the most extensive that it's ever been. Many are asking what's on the horizon for the 2 Guys team and we are excited to say that next week (barring any distributor issues) we will be making Chicken Pot Pies, Chinese Beef & Broccoli, Eclairs, and quite possibly our decadent toasted Coconut Cheesecake. Looking forward we are planning to create some wonderful vegan dishes, duck breast dishes, and more. Thin crust pizzas as well as our smoked chicken halves will be making a comeback as the response was tremendous. Also be on the lookout for our Gourmet Sauerkraut. This wonderful treat is making waves in the "fermentation" community and because of how we make it we can only produce 4 batches a year. Be sure to get on out email list to see when the next batch will be ready. We are working on a few new items and projects that will blow you away in the upcoming months so please stay tuned. Currently we are working out the details to have special dinner events during the summer months at our location that are themed. This concept will be a "under the stars" dinner and will be have very limited seating. Possibly live music and wine pairing. A dinner experience that will be quite memorable. More to come about that in the future. This week we have added our Mexican Tortilla soup to the menu. This soup is a south of the border soul comforting masterpiece. We elevated many of the ingredients so as to really pack a punch of not only flavor but also different textures. When I think of the phrase a "hearty meal" this soup comes to mind. Pan fried zucchini, roasted red bell peppers, creamy black beans, caramelized onions, and roasted garlic are all mixed with stewed tomatoes, sauce, chipotle peppers, and some stock. Totally satisfying. If you want to see more be sure to click this link and check out the rest of our menu this week. You can scroll down to the very bottom of my web page and sign up to receive our weekly menu updates. If you have any questions be sure to let me know... Click here to see our Menu If you would like to start receiving our menu please click below and join our distribution list.. We are a family run operation that has been here for 6+ years and love cooking for others. Our meals are prepackaged, Frozen and ready to reheat and eat.
