I don't think this is a very good idea.  This isn't restoring natural beaches.  There aren't any there.

More importantly, the bay is a dead zone.  Pollution and runoff from the city will continue to contaminate the bay.  This isn't unique to Panama, by any means.  All coastal cities do it to some extent.  But because of the configuration of the bay, wave action is minimal and the water is more stagnant.  Hence, the dead zone and why the waters will always represent a potential health hazard to beach visitors.

I agree.  That's a nasty area there.  Even the rivers flowing to it wreak of waste water.  There's a river right next to the Punta Pacifica hospital complex that runs milky grey and stinks to high heaven.   ( I am recalling the stories I learned about the hospitals in the Crimea Florence Nightengale attended...Ditches surrounded the hospital...hospital waste was tossed into them.  High infection rate ! )  Foul fetid water belches into that bay Panama City sits on !.   Maybe the $ $  should be converted to a fund to counter increasing gang violence.

  2. This plan to promote flow of tourists with money on stop-over-tourism might not work so well if this deadly flu keeps traveling.  More flow of flu ???  just askin.

It's unsettling to me to think we are in fact living in vicinity of one of the worlds most trafficked crossroads.  I can't help it...I'm a nurse and this entire situation is worrisome .

If that really is a picture of Jaén in the above article, then it appears that prison life agrees with him. He is getting puffy in the face and probably has a larger waist size as well.

I wonder how Gilberto Ventura was able to enlist the  police officers to aid his escape.  It was a bribe, of course, but I wonder how he could accomplish that  in a high-security prison.

I guess the same way the fire arms got in and all hell broke loose inside there with gang warfare.  Glad to see the President promptly fired some officials  ( right after the official had  fired some men under him.  ) Somehow some money got into the pocket that opened the jail door.   $50 grand is a lot of money for a reward.  They want that escapee pretty bad I'd say.

  5. Well we have had the water on then off (with most days off)  and water coming in at night.  Those here without tanks are waterless most of the time during the day.  Today the water is on and the pressure is very high (off the Richter) .  That said, we love life here in Boquete and do not regret for a nano-second our 12 years here in Brisas.  We just deal with the situation as best we can .   Subdivisions like ours have no home owners association dues for common maintenance.  We all contribute voluntarily to the upkeep.  That said, our ability to pave roads or install fancy water regulation systems is beyond the budget of most resident here.  We all need to do our own research on where we decide to live .   Water issues here have not changed much in the years we have been here.   BTW,  I seriously doubt Realtors have an inside scoop on Municipal projects that are not even on the horizon .

When I purchased my home I noticed small puddles of water behind one of the toilets and under the kitchen sink in the cabinet below every once in a while.  It didn't happen often but when I mentioned it to my neighbors they informed me that our neighborhood routinely experioences water pressures above 100 PSI which is in the danger zone for residential quality plumbing.  I had Grupo Aguas install a pressure regulator with my backup pump/tank system as seen in the attached photo and the problem never occurred again.  It's calibrated to only allow 60 PSI of municipal water to flow with my backup pump/tank system providing only 50 PSI in the event of a water outage which easily informs me (if I can't hear the pump turn on while it's raining) that there is low pressure or none at all as to warn me not to do laundry.  This differential in pressure is also noticeable during a shower indicating that there's an outage so that I know to conserve.

I recall the price of the pressure regulator being about $75 which of course is peanuts compared to the potential costs of repair due to dangerously high water pressures.  And I strongly recommend pressure regulators constructed of brass, not ones constructed of PVC.

Well worth every dime !   We have one.   Pressure here sometimes  is as high as Keith describes ...actually higher .   I have always wondered about the possibility of water pressure regulation inline in a subdivision such as ours (Brisas)  where both the lower houses and as well the ones on higher ground could receive equal pressure without bursting lines at the seams. The pressure here can be so high as to create leaks to the surface from below the storm drains in the street...when it's that high I know to run our hose in the yard to reduce pressure so we don't have a gusher inside the house.  When we leave for vacation we turn the water to the house off at the street.

When we moved here 12 years ago, we knew that there was a large community reserve tank that supposedly supplied Brisas .  That tank we were told by the government could not be used for some regulatory reason.  It's now sitting empty...rusting.   It would be nice to define these water issue problems that have been repeating for over a decade, , solve them, and if necessary allow the Brisas community to assist in moving to a solution.  To date the problems repeat "as if" undefined as to their cause.  ( high , low pressure and outage..unannounced)

Question:   I notice a huge subdivision built on the road to Caldera just before Boquete Canyon Village.  Looks like a hundred homes or more.  How will we ( in Brisas ) receive adequate water service once all those homes come on-line if issues unresolved remain.....unresolved for over a decade?

  7. Brisas Boquetenas:   Water has been in sporadic shut-down mode for approximately a month.   Rarely is there water flowing during the day.  Usually we get water to fill the reserve tank at night.  Our home is a lower altitude than those at the entry of the Brisas subdivision.  I was told that those homes at the entry had been totally out for 9 days.  Those homes as well had longer outages than we did in the same subdivision for the last month.  For several months now we have had periods of water pressure so high the water lines ruptured in the usual areas that always break.  So yes in Brisas there are problems that have yet to be resolved.  Some broken lines here have been broken and leaking for months now.   If the water is running down the road we know the water is on.

We still use a children's plastic pool for extra water on hand.

  8. Important to read what side effects could be possible with the use of colloidal silver. The principle of "first do no harm"  needs consideration before use :

    Mayo Clinic writes:

"t's not clear how much colloidal silver may be harmful, but it can build up in your body's tissues over months or years. Most commonly, this results in argyria (ahr-JIR-e-uh), a blue-gray discoloration of your skin, eyes, internal organs, nails and gums. While argyria doesn't usually pose a serious health problem, it can be a cosmetic concern because it doesn't go away when you stop taking silver products.

Rarely, excessive doses of colloidal silver can cause possibly irreversible serious health problems, including kidney damage and neurological problems such as seizures.

Colloidal silver products may also interact with medications, including penicillamine (Cuprimine, Depen), quinolone antibiotics, tetracycline and thyroxine (Unithroid, Levoxyl, Synthroid) medications."  Dr Brent A Bauer, M.D., Mayo Clinic.

Dr Bauer is affiliated with Mayo Clinic's research on alternative medicine modalities.  He spearheads research and is respected with regards to his contributions to  new integrative approaches to the delivery of medicine.

As a nurse of more than 50 years, I can confirm the use of silver compounds topically for serious burns in the hospital setting.

  9. Merry Christmas from Alison and Bill !   Flossy left us in November.  She was full of love until the end when she was too old to recover from a bad sickness.  We had 5 years of some very happy Christmas seasons with this sweet dog off the street that everybody in Boquete loved.  We are very thankful for that time and we urge you all to support local animal rescue  groups.

Buy a calendar for 2020 to support Amigos de Animales.  !

  10. That's and ENORMOUS amount of money !!!   Let us hope for the sake of this country that the recovery of money will find a home where it belongs: ......schools, juvenile rehab facilities, Community restoration in poor communities of Panama City,  waste management in Panama City,  .........the list is long.   Unfortunately corruption seems to bounce around between political parties in the pockets of the corrupt and already very rich politicians.

  11. You can get used to it.  It's all in the size of the on-demand unit and the settings.  Low water pressure can cause problems.   Man we LOVE our strong hot showers here with our on demand .  Never fails even when water issues occur !  We installed a nozzle for homes with low pressure.  It works great....peel the skin off your back !  ...and then there's the $25 (or less) electric bill each month.  Life is good!!!

  13. Now that is different.....threatening a person with a gun in the tax line so that you can get farther up in the line.   I wonder if tax evasion carries the same penalty as threatening a person with an unlicensed gun which he had in possession.  I am sure that after his father the judge spanks him hard he will explain that to him.

  14. My husband and I have lived in Brisas now for 12 years.  We love the micro climate, and the wonderful location with great neighbors and drop dead views.  Its peaceful here, yet  at the same time the location is close general stores like Plus and Ivan's.  This home here has been well cared for by an owner we have known all the time we have lived here.  We can say this is one really good deal for someone looking for a furnished  home in a nice climate, close to amenities and with one heck of a beautiful view.
