  1. Here is the reply I got. Shows that one shouldn't jump to conclusions about other people's motives. "We are in receipt of your email, I personally am editing all of the works for our site, please be patient as they are not yet completed. We appreciate you taking the time to care about Lee's work and assure you credit is being given in the final updated version. If you were a friend of Lee's and like to honor him in a short memorial, we would be happy to post it as well."
  2. I reported it on ning. We'll see what happens. It's odd to read a piece that says "I" did this and "I" did that, with no clue who "I" is.
  3. I received this reply from Sr. Alvarez, a representative of the Ministry of Security. It is regarding the statement that Panama can't change it's law regarding juvenile incarceration because of a UN treaty. From: Gilberto Álvarez <galvarez@minseg.gob.pa>To: Judy Sacco <jwsacco@yahoo.com>Sent: Friday, October 30, 2015 10:22 AMSubject: RE: UN treaties and Panama law Thank you Ms. Sacco,I think that the minister said that tongue and cheek. It sometimes happens that small countries are not told directly what to do, but if we do not do what is implied we are put on gray lists or in list of the countries that don’t cooperate. Be assured that the minister are compromised with making Panama a more peaceful and safe place to visit and live, and on addressing the problem of juvenile crime in all aspects.Kind regards
  4. So it would seem the nasty, dangerous, violent children who shoot and stab people will continue to be let go. When this becomes generally known, it will probably have a negative effect on Panama's tourism industry.
  5. Perhaps this belongs in a new topic, but I would like to be able to respond to a particular post right under that post, rather than at the bottom of the whole thread (like on ning - sorry). Can there be reply buttons under each post? Maybe this program doesn't support that format.
  6. The freezing seems to be a Cable Onda problem, related to an abnormal upload signal.A Cable Onda tech came to my house tonight and checked out the problem with the freezing. I had written an email to CO reporting a choppy spiked signal, particularly on the upload. The tech confirmed what I said about the uneven upload signal as probably the reason for the freezing. He did some testing and found normal internet was ok, but when he did live streaming (YouTube), there was inconsistency in the upload signal, which he said was not normal. He is going to report the problem to his supervisor and also said everybody who is having the same freezing problem should do what I did, send an email with screen shots attached showing the download/upload graphs. The only speed test site that shows both graphs is Cable Onda's, so that would be the best to use.CO Speed Test Site Everybody who has been having this problem needs to write to CO at this email address:pruebadecliente@cableonda.net Do speed tests at different times of day, particularly when you have the most freezing (most likely from 7 to 10 p.m.). Take screen shots of the download/upload graphs and attach those to the email. The more people they hear from in the various areas of Boquete who are having this problem, the faster they will fix it.Note: Since this is a CO problem, it is affecting people with both Juan's and Carlos' systems.
  7. Dr. Sleepwell's summary said: "UN treaties supersede national law..." This is absolutely not true. This is from the UN Foundation website: "A UN treaty does not supersede national laws. Specifically, the UN has no capacity or ability to threaten a country’s sovereignty." The UN treaty does not prevent Panama from changing it's laws regarding juvenile incarceration. If Pres. Varela is saying that, he is misinformed. http://www.unfoundation.org/blog/my-entreaty.html
  8. Pat, that was a message personal to admin. It had nothing to do with not appreciating help. You don't know what I'm referring to.
  9. I'm not comfortable with the constant monitoring of my posts and the chastising (twice now) by Admin.
  10. Be careful of what? I'm talking about, after I make a post, at the bottom there is an edit button to go back and correct a typo or add something else. What am I supposed to be careful of?
  11. Yes, I found and reset the filters. Thanks everybody. Don't know why this site is so confusing to me.
  12. Twin Wolf, you can edit your posts here. I agree, the Activity Stream would make a better home page, especially since people sometimes don't post in the right category for their subject matter.
  13. Someone in Volcancito died and these animals need homes. You can see the dog on Pets Want Homes. If you can help feed, foster, or adopt, please contact Javier or Magaly at 6563-8686 / 6965-9423 or javierandmagalyhouse@gmail.com
  14. Exactly which Panamanian used car lots in Boquete and nearby areas are having their business taken away? I haven't seen any.
  15. Can't find "filter". Won't bother looking any more, because Activity Stream works.
  16. If there have been many new posts, why don't they show up when I click "New Content". That has been coming up empty for 3 days.
  17. There haven't been any new posts for a couple of days. Is the rain getting everybody down?
  18. I keep stepping on the edge of the ning limits. I guess I haven't stepped over it yet. Still experimenting on where it is.
  19. The main error in Kelly's report was that the amoebas and giardia are only a problem for foreigners. As Brundageba pointed out, it's a problem for locals too.
  20. Today a notice on News Boquete warned about drinking untreated water due to fecal contamination and incidents of amoeba and giardia infections. This week our water came out of our taps blackish-brown. Then it went off entirely. The outage is into its second day. This is the second long outage this month. The last one was 3 days. This is not Santa Lucia or Jaramillo where water outages are common. This is a neighborhood in Volcancito that has always had a dependable water supply. This is a new problem. The proposed water treatment system will not benefit Alto Boquete (which includes Volcancito). Who can we talk to about the water? Brown fecal water is not acceptable. Days without water is also not acceptable. Yes, I do have storage tanks, but some of my neighbors don't. We also had two days this month with 10 hour power outages. Come to Boquete and live like a barnyard animal.
  21. I see you have to open the topic to see the black dot. That was not in the instructions. I like Deborah's method better. Enough said.
