Maggie's List (Animal Care Resources of the Chiriquí Province), and Pet Abuse (Issue 1.34, Updated August 20, 2020 with updated contact info re Volcan resources) As a lead-in and related topic, there are legal restraints against the abuse of domestic animals in Panama. For those who wish to read the applicable statute, there is a separate topic here on CL that provides both the Spanish and the English language versions of Panama's Law 70, dated 18 October 2012. Abuela is back! This is Abuela. She is approximately 7 years old and has been spayed. We do not know her story, as she simply “showed up” on someone’s doorstep one day. It is very obvious that for most of her life she was probably on a short chain. Her “elbows” and rear show signs that she was made to sit on a hard surface for long periods of time. She has a very sweet disposition and just wants to be loved. Abuela is a large dog, approximately 80 pounds. She was previously adopted, but the owner is not caring for her properly. We want to find a good loving home for h

Susie is looking for an outgoing active partner. Someone who is not a couch potato, but likes long walks and lots of play time. She would love another dog to play with. Susie is non-stop full tilt play. She has lots of energy. She is about 3 and is spayed. Susie was rescued after having 10 puppies. She was travelling down the road each day to wait for people to dump garbage in the dumpster for her meals. Thankfully we were made aware of the situation shortly after she had her pups and were able to provide all of them with proper nutritional meals. Contact ARF arf.boquete@gmail.com

Beginning March 1st for only two months. They will pay for food and provide the dog's crate and blanket where he likes to sleep at night. Friends in Boquete rescued this dog from an Indio. They tended a wound in the dog's leg and had him neutered. He went from a terrible life to a good life. The dog is apparently deaf. He is a hound...and of course howls. They have to return to the states for two months and they're at their wit's end about finding care for their beloved dog during that time. Can you help? 6517-8752 Dottie

Hi all, We are urgently requesting dog food donations for one of our fosters. They have 8 of our dogs and will run out of food tomorrow. We have limited volunteers right now, and even fewer with transport. Unfortunately we were not advised earlier, otherwise we could have made arrangements. If anyone would be willing to drop off a bag of dry dog food (they currently eat Pedigree), please contact Javier on 6965-9423. Thank you!

Looking for a sponsor

Meet Celestino. Celestino was in a motorcycle accident about 12 years ago, and now is partially paralyzed. He lives alone and does a bit of woodworking for a small income. Celestino has two cats and one dog that he just adores and that mean the world to him but he struggles with providing food for them, and it is always a constant worry to him that his animals will go hungry. He also has another cat that is hanging around looking for food, but he has been “shooing” the cat away as he didn’t have enough food to feed his own pets. ARF was made aware -
Tiempo was found roaming in the Alto Boquete area. He is young, sweet, gentle, and comes to people easily. When found, the tip of his tail was damaged and it had to be removed. He also had a tumor on his private part and a testicle that did not descend that were also removed. (Poor guy doesn’t have much luck in this area). Tiempo’s tumor has now grown back and it has been determined that he needs to undergo 3 chemo treatments…..however, he currently has tick fever, so he needs to recover from this first. The chemo treatments are $60 each and we are looking for donations to c

Here are a few of our friends hoping to find a loving home for the new year: Charlie is a male Cocker, around 3 years old and weighs 35 lbs. He likes to chase cats, but does not harm them. He is friendly with other dogs, chickens and children. His favorite pass time is cuddling. Very sweet little guy. Winnie is ready for adoption! It has been since February that this girl has been given TLC to get back her health and her weight…..she looks like a real Boxer now! She was being starved by her owner, and it was touch and go for a while there. Winnie is a very smart girl. She is

I just started a FaceBook page called: "Lost and Found Pets Greater Boquete" Lost and Found Pets of Greater Boquete. If you're not familiar, these sites are throughout counties in the US and have great success at returning all kind of pets using the help of the community. People can post lost pets and details as well as pet siting or found pet posts. Here is a great example of one that works well: "Lost and Found Pets of Polk County" I'd like to see this work here in the greater Boquete area. Please find and friend the page and help these pets get back home! It will also include tip

Hello all, Well, I thought we might get a bit of a break over the upcoming holidays, but this is proving not to be the case. This is a plea to current, past, and future ARF fosters, as well as ARF donators, contacts, and the Boquete community in general for foster or forever homes for these animals. In the past two weeks + there have been many animals brought to our attention that we need to find placement for, some needing immediate placement. The most urgent are noted below. Pictures are attached. Cholo: This handsome guy was brought to our attentio

Oct 29, 2016 - This little guy, was rescued by someone in David. He was taken to St. Francis animal hospital and was being treated for a very bad case of mange. Pepe's rescuer then took him to a foster home, which turned out not to be ideal. ARF got involved and found a new foster home for him. Nov 2, 2016 - Updated picture of Pepe (now being called Marley) in foster care. The cone is to keep him from scratching under his chin, where he has some pretty bad open sores, and the socks are to lessen the effect of him scratching his body elsewhere. Nov 9, 2016 - Marley has gained 2 pounds

UPDATE NOVEMBER 11, 2016: Alex escaped from the nice people who were looking after him, and has again been found. He is not in an ideal situation right now, and we are looking for a safe place for him to stay. If you can open your heart and home to this handsome guys until he finds a forever home, please contact us. Alex was hit by a car on September 29th and wandered over to a nearby house. These people have generously offered to look after him. ARF took him to the vet to have his leg examined, and thankfully it was not broken, but a very bad sprain that will take some time to heal.

This beautiful girl is only 7 months old and has been living 5 of those months tied up to a chain. Her owners have agreed to surrender her. This is not an ARF dog, as she is not currently in our care, but I have been asked to post this. She is not yet fixed but will be at the David clinic, and is looking for a loving home with a family that will treat her as part of the pack. At animal shelters and rescue groups across the world, there are an abundance of healthy senior pets looking for a special home to cherish them for the rest of their lives. Although shaping the life of a youngster sounds appealing, giving a second change to an older companion can be equally rewarding. They like to share quiet moments, are in most cases trained, and do not chew or scratch everything in sight. Older pets have plenty to offer to adopters – not the least of which is love. Here are the benefits of adopting an adult/older animal: Calm Demeanor: An adult a

Romeo the Spaniel and Cholo These two boys are each about 3 years old. They will get their vaccinations this week and be neutered in David on November 26. They are both good with cats, dogs, chicken and children, although Cholo has had limited experience with children. They were found by Super Ivan's. It was discovered that a family in the area was feeding them for about two months, but they can no longer take on anymore dogs. They will be ready for adoption after they are fixed on the 26th.

Hello everyone! For October, the amount of monthly donations was $2443.00 and expenses totaled $2032.00. Thank you to everyone who contributed! We received another large contribution this month and we cannot thank the donators enough! Thank you to the anonymous donor for the $1500.00. This will go a long way in helping us catch up on some of our bills. 3 dogs found their forever home this month, but no cats were adopted. If you have any friends or relatives looking for a pet, please direct them to our site or have them contact us, as we have many ready for adopti

Another update: Good news for Zembla, her liver is not as bad as it looked. This means that I can start with the 3 weeks of doxicicline to treat the tick fever. She still needs the special Hepatic food and Hepatocan liver protection pills, combined with Hemavet to boost her blood values. She is also being dewormed. I'll keep you posted! This dog was found near the airport in David yesterday. We are urgently seeking donations for the care that will be required to help this dog. If you can help, no mater the amount, please click on the link below to donate. Thank you. ARF is a

Scooby is looking for a loving home . He is getting fixed on October 30th. He can only stay in his foster until the 1st of November and after that he has no place to go.
