JudyS
The link www.dig.mef.gob.pa does not work. All I get is "page not found". Has anybody else reached it successfully?

Geez, how can someone make a post and not bother to proofread and test a website address, which obviously will not work if it's misspelled? I entered both dgi and dig. Neither of them worked. Perhaps it's the mef part that's wrong. I think she needs to try again.
JudyS
I sent her an email, and she sent me this one https://dgi.mef.gob.pa/ This one worked. When I clicked on the one in Keith's post it didn't work. ??? Edited November 9, 2017 by JudyS
JudyS
This is the screen that came up. It did not say "Property Number". It said "Usario/RUC" on the first box, and "NIT" on the second. I put in the property number, but since I did not know the NIT, left it blank. The post seemed to indicate the NIT was optional, but it didn't work without the NIT. If anybody successfully navigates the site, would you please tell me how you did it? DIG.docx
NewsLady
The misspelling was the fault of the newslady and not of Lourdes Miranda. Mea culpa and all of that. Disculpe. 1

Penny
Okay, I need to find out how much property tax I owe for my rental house. I followed all the instructions but they don't go far enough. I've hit this page and can't figure out where to go from here to find out my property tax amount due. Any help appreciated.
Bonnie
Isn't property tax the same every year?
Penny
More or less the same. I'll probably be safe if I just pay the same. Sometimes, because of the timing of payments, there's a little more or less multa and/or interest. It just bugs me that the government websites in Panama are so difficult to navigate. My neighbor says they do it on purpose so you have to hire either a lawyer or accountant. I attribute it to ineptness. Just when you learn to use the darn thing, they change it around the following year. Then, every five years a new government comes in and re-writes the whole thing. Starting this year, if you pay taxes on your personal residence, there will be a huge change in the downward direction.

Bonnie
Anybody know what NIT stands for?
Penny
I just saw the answer to the NIT question yesterday. Going from memory it's something like Nacional Identity Tessoral. That may be close. What I will probably end up doing is going to the tax office by the casino in David and asking them to show me how to use the web site. Bonnie
I received an email telling me that NIT is the abbreviation for Numero de Identificacion Tributario. It is essentially a tax identification number, like the social security number is on U.S. tax returns.

I know that they do some changes that makes you to re learn the way to navigate through it but finally you can do it. Sometimes I do admit that it becomes a little bit harder to navigate and go thru but it is more a matter of trying to do a lot for the site from designers than other obscure agenda. It is sad to hear people spreading as true something like this.

That is correct Bonnie It is something like the ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) that gives you the IRS in the US.
