  3. The newslady agrees that all persons submitting an email for distribution should identify themselves. She is working on a way to universally enforce this desire. Short of proof-reading, editing, and correcting every email that comes in, there doesn't seem to be a way to make people think about how to submit an informative, well written notice. Too many people dash off a couple of sentences on their smart phone and send it in to be put into almost 2000 email inboxes. Shows a disrespect for the service.

  10. Buenos Vecinos de Boquete October Family of the Month By Boquete Community Players, Friday at 10:18 AM in Tuesday Morning Meeting (TMM) Rate this topic Boquete Community Players Advanced Member Members 6 224 posts Report post Posted Friday at 10:18 AM Family of the month - October 2017 Meet Julia's Family Julia knows how to live with adversity. As a child she suffered burns that are visible even today. It prepared her for what was to come when she became a mom to Misael. Little four-year old Misael was born with cerebral palsy and other health issues that have stunted his growth. But Julia and his stepdad Luterio meet the challenges that come with with round-the-clock care for a CP child. They also provide love and support for their other two children, two-year old Nina and six-month old Carlos. The family lives in a rented room for a dollar a day and their sole income is from the work that Luterio can find at nearby farms. The work opportunities are, unfortunately, inconsistent so the family is grateful for the food assistance they receive from Buenos Vecinos each month. And they look to the Handicap Foundation (FPI) for help with some of their medical expenses, with physical therapy and social/emotional support. Together BVB and FPI address the critical needs of those who most require our help. Buenos Vecinos de Boquete depends on your support to feed and nourish families like Julia’s. If you would like to help families like this and the efforts of Buenos Vecinos de Boquete, your financial support would be most appreciated. DONATE ONLINE: http://www.buenosvecinosdeboquete.com/how-you-can-help We use PayPal for easy and secure transactions. IF YOU PREFER TO DONATE BY CASH, Please contact Louise Orr (panamaleo@gmail.com) for arrangements. When you make that important decision to help feed the less fortunate in our community, you have truly become a “good neighbor”. When you donate $360 a year or $30 a month (about the cost of a daily latte), your name will be added to our “Coconut Foundation” as an acknowledgement of your concern and generosity. Buenos Vecinos de Boquete’s wholesale purchase power enables us to furnish our clients more food than they could purchase on their own in the store with the same amount of money. Thank you!

  22. ATTENTION GARDENERS: Are you interested in some organic gardening classes? When I came to Panama, having grown gardens most of my life, I thought it would be no problem to do it here. Boy was I wrong. After many trails, errors and disappointments, I’ve learned a lot and want to share my knowledge with you. Here are a few things you will be learning: How to use the cycles of the moon for planting, trans-planting and pruning. How to make compost from your kitchen scraps and never turn soil with a shovel. How to make your own soil and what garden cuttings and leaves are good to use. How to identify a problem with a plant and what to do to solve it What products I use, that work, to keep it organic. Companion planting and what grows best where. What plants repel insects? Growing Panamanian herbs and their medicinal uses. How to “graft” a fruit tree. The care and feeding of plants, orchids and much more. Please email me privately if you are interested in participating and any questions you have. lvanderkar@gmail.com The first class will be Friday morning 9-11am on November 10th (which is a holiday) . This will be a "show and tell" complete tour of Finca Feliz for 2 hrs. You'll see what you're learning "in action". This class is jam packed with lots of information, so bring something to take notes and comfortable shoes (not sandals). From then we can set up a schedule of days and topics according to your needs. I will be at the Market Tuesday (as usual) to answer any questions or sign up anyone interested. A donation of $25 per person is appreciated. This will include free cuttings and plants to go home with. To respond, click the "reply" button or email me privately Lvanderkar@gmail.com
