  1. God bless you. Sweet, kind words. Hugs
  2. Yes Bonnie. Your story is common. Retirement here is bliss until you need medical care and to be close to family. Even though Bill and I are not ready to return to the USA quite yet we are in our 70's and recognize that the next 10 years may be our swan song here. At that point we'd sell and return back (.....or sooner if God-forbid a serious health issue came into play.) It's now time for us to think about security in every regard . ( that's why we bought a new truck for our surf trips to the coast...we want a truck that will be great for us for the next 10 years) As well, we think about avoiding probate and sale of our home etc etc....not to mention how we want our retirement money to be invested. All these things we are doing now. ....and down the line we as well will be headed back to spend the last years in the USA. It's a cycle here with retired folks .
  3. Eleven years and counting...and couldn't be happier. Lots of homes for sale and so many being built...so I agree with Keith. Great time to buy and a wide selection.
  4. Mayo Clinic can be trusted methinks. They do not say don't take it, they do however say that only the high risk and previous heart attack patients should. . The risk of course would be stroke. Taking aspirin with Omega 3 .and say a Motrin all three have anticoagulant effects...thus an increase in your bleeding tendency.. Cerebral hemorrhage ( stroke ) can leave you possibly not dead but certainly not functioning well ...forevermore. Knowing the risk is extremely important. Then certainly it's your choice to take or not. Not being "afraid" of a headline article may in fact be being unaware of consequences.
  5. Correct. With a few exceptions. Here's what Mayo clinic says: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/heart-disease/in-depth/daily-aspirin-therapy/art-20046797
  6. Very dangerous even for a strong swimmer ! Deep holes and rip currents right next to the shore. Warning signs (in Spanish and English) at all beach accesses should be there. If a person then decides to take the risk, the risk is his. This is a beach break that is very deceptive, and again....dangerous. A very very sad story. The man was young an on holiday. My heart goes out tot he family.
  7. Amazon.com. for the foam I've used newspaper I've rolled up in cylinders and stuffed down vertically into the container. Once you get it all loaded and the flowers stuck in, you add the water after you place the container in the spot you want it. This works great when using buckets for containers. I made church floral displays like that for years.
  8. On the car registration .....we changed that number once we obtained the E-Cedula. That we did in Dolega. Now the # on the vehicle registration is the E-Cedula # I assume you have an E-Cedula. You do need to go to Migration with your old and new passports and get all that linked in the system as Keith said.
  9. The Rock restaurant got temporarily renamed "The Logs". That flood was essentially a tsunami that rolled in when log jams upstream let loose all o a sudden and came downstream with a torrent of water. Huge logs the size of a small bus ended up all around The Rock. The waterline on the B&B next to it was about 3 foot up from ground level. I believe the government chainsaw crew are making better efforts now to keeps those streams cleared of (at least large chunks) of forest debris
  10. Removable grates over sides of crosswalks . If you jaywalk you are at your own risk....and of course many elect to do that..
  11. A dear friend of ours hit a fellow who tripped on the uneven sides of the road trying to cross the street in the middle of Boquete. The man stumbled & fell right in front of our friends car. The man died. Our friend was taken directly to jail. In the end it was considered an accident, but the case was left open and hanging. I mean consider that! The solution for stumbling over uneven roadsides and the control of rainwater flow are both issues of concern. One is not exclusive of the other.
  12. It would seem that cement ditches on the side of the road would be added eventuality . Lateral connection lines have to be dug correct?. My hunch is they left the sides of the road like that because it's not a completed project. Also: Some of the drop offs on the sides are scary deep. The one that comes to mind is on the corner of the intersection on the road behind Los Establos. Bad intersection. We will all have to be mighty careful for awhile. Bill scratched our brand new car just trying to get our of a tight parking space. I was not a happy camper and neither was he after my " I told you so" squawking. I think marital counseling services needs to come along with this road project !
  13. From the album: Brundageba's Photo Album

  14. Same in Brisas and I hear as far as Los Molinos. Today TV as well
  15. Ngobe renters. For them anything goes as you know. As it is, they received a one month eviction notice from a tool shed they and their 4 kid and their kids live in. ( 10 or so in a 20X20 tin shack without windows.)
  16. A Ngobe family we help is moving into a house without a toilet in the bathroom. Landlord is asking them to purchase it. Anybody have one for sale? Alison
  17. It was amazing there were not more involved with the traffic heading east behind it. After we passed the 3 vehicles coming at us on our side of the divided highway and we approached the smoke, we encountered what looked like the drive train from the delivery truck on our side of the road...then numerous fragments all over the road that were undoubtedly exploded everywhere. Any oncoming vehicle could have been stuck by that. The big hole in the cement divider was next to the hauler in the foreground of the photo. As far as I can figure the delivery truck in the distance was launched over the divider. Like the curve in front of Brisas Boquetenas, this place has gotten quite a few of these accidents where heavy trucks that are going too fast can't negotiate the downhill curve. They could have both gotten tangeled up as one or the other or both lost control downhill. All four victims survived and made it to the hospital. ...a miracle.
  18. Just missed being way too close to an accident involving two large trucks on the interAmerican highway in the area of Vigui. Both vehicles were flipped onto their sides in the eastbound lane and one was burning. Both vehicles were facing west which means they must have spun. There were pieces and parts of the trucks on both sides of the road ( some were mighty big) Looks like one heading west crossed through the cement divider when it failed to negotiate a downhill curve. This particular spot in Vigui has seen more than one accident just like this. We knew something was up when three vehicles came at us headed east in our westbound side of the road ...all 3 flashing lights. We could see smoke in the distance. The larger hauler was on fire. Ultimately nothing was left of the cab on that one. Had we not stopped for a very brief piss break for our dog on our trip back home, we would have been way too close for comfort on this one. Still am puzzled as to exactly how this accident happened.
  19. Isn't wet asphalt pretty obvious?...like stop BEFORE the paving, back up and turn around. I guess he thought it was a wet road from the rains.
