  1. You would think so and that this construction strike would benefit me in at least one small way. But it is an independent job, and they're still working.
  2. Just a reminder that a membership in Amigos de Animales de Boquete gets you discounts at Sugar 'n' Spice and Mascotas y Jardines. My membership pays for itself with these savings.
  3. I’m looking for more recommendations. Abraham has stood me up twice, keeping me at home all day on two days when I had things to do elsewhere. I’m hoping he’s not the only car washer in town.

  5. Both Amigos de Animales de Boquete and Fundacion Prointegracion Boquete (Handicap Foundation) hold patio sales at which donated clothes are sold. For AdA call Magaly Bustamente at 6563-8686 or Ken and Becky Campeau at 6955-1266. For FPI, contact Susan Peterson at 6677-3443 or Penny Barrett at 6510-8934.
  6. Let's not rush to judgment and panic the community. Where did this information come from? It concerns me that the police "apparently" are saying this. They generally are very close-mouthed about investigations. All rumors spread rapidly here, including those that may have no basis in fact.
  7. But are we talking about expats who have falsified U.S. social security data? Or immigrants who have falsified Panamanian s.s. data? If the latter, I'm wondering how they are working with a temporary visa.
  8. Can someone explain to me what this means? I assume the writer (or translator) means "residency" rather than "residence," but beyond that I'm lost.
  9. I would like to add my recommendation to those of Dottie and Bud. Dan has been a lifesaver for me when it comes to thorny computer problems. He always responds quickly, and he solves the issue remotely with his remarkable Team Viewer program. I don't know how I ever did without his service. And Dan has never made fun of me even once when I demonstrated my ignorance of computer technology!
  10. Thanks for the tip, Jo. But what the devil is Chromecast? Every time I turn around there's some kind of technology out there that I've never heard of.?
  11. I do understand, Pat, that the title of the post is misleading. I simply don't see it as so grievous an error as others do. It was a poor choice of words, but I'm not convinced it was meant to mislead. My point, which I thought was clear, is that I don't find it so offensive as to merit the kind of criticism leveled.
  12. Are you so humorless as not to recognize a light-hearted joke when you read it?
  13. I agree. I don't understand what the offense is to merit this kind of harsh criticism.
  14. After having experienced no problems with Netflix for some time, I have been unable to connect with it for two days either by computer or Roku. Is anyone else having problems? (I use Smart DNS Proxy.)
  15. The purpose of your post escapes me. At a cost in the millions of dollars, the Panamonte Bridge reconstruction is scarcely a microproject.
  16. It will be an undertaking not unlike the building of the canal itself. It's my understanding that the Darien is virtually impenetrable in large part. And that's before you consider the mosquitoes and the diseases they transmit. I pity the poor workers.
  17. You lost me, Keith. What is this about?
  18. Thanks. Neither Ivan nor El Dorado is convenient for me, but it’s doable because it’s only the occasional trip. It’s not clear who reposted the blog entry below, but it doesn’t answer my question about the recycling place downtown next to BFF.
  19. I understand about the once-a-month recycling event. But is the recycling center next to the BBF still operable too and, if so, are they still taking aluminum and clear glass only? My aluminum and clear glass builds up a lot more quickly than my plastic. Second question: Is there anywhere other than Roher where you can buy bottled beer and bottled sodas? The parking there has become a nightmare and sometimes there's no one available to help with loading and unloading.
  20. Probably. I'm fast becoming too old to live alone, and I miss my son and his wife. But even if I decide to stay, this house and property is just too big for one old lady.
  21. Built on what once was part of a coffee finca, this beautiful house and 1-1/4 acres (1/2 hectare) of land is a gardener’s, entertainer’s, and cook’s paradise. In addition to grass lawns in both front and back, it features a fully mature botanical garden complete with orchid casita, fish pools with waterlilies and a waterfall, numerous custom trellises, and an upper deck and pergola for climbing plants. The setting, which is shielded from downtown noise by the topography, feels remote but is less than five minutes north of downtown Boquete. The property is fully fenced, with a remote controlled gate, window and door bars for added security, as well as outside lights. There is a wraparound terrace off the back and, a safe distance beyond the back garden, the Palo Alto River. The roof is of aged clay tiles. Inside, the enormous great room area, with vaulted wood ceilings, includes an unusually spacious kitchen with more than ample storage in cabinets, drawers, and walk-in pantry. A long bar of live edge mango wood separates the kitchen from the living area, which is complete with a gas fireplace as well as a built-in entertainment center with shelves for books and artwork. Located off the central living area are a laundry room and a half bath with large linen closet. One wing of the house contains a master bedroom and a spacious master bath of travertine marble with a shower plus jetted tub. In this wing, adjacent to the master, is a study with three walls of built-in custom cabinetry. On the opposite side of the house are two guest bedrooms and a shared bath. This area connects by door to the two-car garage. All bedrooms have walk-in closets, and there is additional built-in storage throughout the house. The Palo Alto water system is a private and reliable one, and there is a complete water filtration system, including UV light. Also, the house comes with a generator for those occasional power outages as well as a whole-house surge protector. Cable Onda supplies Internet and t.v. service, or there are two satellite dishes for Direct TV and Skye. There is a large reserve water tank as well as four tanks that collect rainwater for irrigation purposes. All appliances are included: refrigerator/freezer, stove/oven, microwave, toaster oven, washer and dryer. This house and garden were built with love, and it shows. Don’t miss this opportunity to own one of the most uniquely beautiful properties in Boquete. List Price: $559,000.
