    GENTLE YOGA
    MONDAY thru FRIDAY 9:30 - 10:30 AM
5-Days a Week! A Gentle Yoga class that encourages breath & body-awareness, as we blend traditional poses with conscious movement. Great for beginners, or those who prefer a more relaxed, mindful style. Options are given and requests are encouraged.
Each class is tailored to the group's needs. This is done in the spirit of yoga as a healing practice, where asanas (poses) are given for various conditions (ie, back pain, tight shoulders, etc.) Yoga works in subtle and profound ways. The more you listen your body’s needs... and the more supportive and deep your practice will become. Results include increased strength, flexibility, balance, & enhanced overall well being.
Overall, the goal is simple: To Feel Good!  Strengthen, stretch, and smile your way into the day.

It was a huge loss when Alex moved his training headquarters to Portugal, but he maintains some ties in Chiriqui;  thankfully!  He will be here for 1 week, and will be doing refresher work and expanded training , and has offered to hold a  primer class for anyone who is desirous of making your dog more enjoyable for yourself.   He helped me with my dogs, and it has been wonderful!  He is a true professional.  He’s a real asset to our community!  So glad he’s back, if even for this brief time!   For those who don’t have a dog yet, head over to Dog Camp, adopt a dog or two, and join the class!   Dear dog parent,

my name is Alex Bornemann and I am a certified Foundation Style Dog Trainer (certified by K91 Dogtrainer Academy in New York) as well as a Canine Training Specialist and Behavior Consultant (certified by Starmark Academy in Texas). All that’s just fancy talk saying that I haven’t picked up my dog training skills off of YouTube Videos but have a scientific background to fall upon when it comes to canine behavior.

I will be in Boquete at the beginning of September and have been approached about offering training advice during that time. I will therefore hold a training seminar if there is enough interest, you can find the info below and you can check my webpage to find more info on me at www.dogtrainingworldwide.com

Please keep in mind that dogs are not machines, they learn through repetition and consistency. A seminar will lay the foundation to problem solve and will highlight training mistakes which may hinder your success. It will not, however, offer a magic wand to transform your dog into a fully obedient, problem free animal in 4 days.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out via WhatsApp or email   (See below)

    Monday 5th of September - Thursday 8th
    10:00 am - 12:00 pm

7 working spots (you bring your dog and we work on the issues at hand)

Audit spots available (you sit in without having a dog that is being worked on)

Pricing: 100 USD for working spot, 60 for audit spot

The seminar will be accompanied by some online coursework in preparation.

    Example topics:
Basic obedience - sit, recall, lose leash walk
How to go from basic to advanced obedience
Problem solving such as: nipping, jumping on people, soiling the house.
Aggression issues only with prior approval.

Topics and Structure of seminar subject to change until confirmation is sent out.

    * purchase of specific training equipment may be required such as slip lead or prong collar.

Please contact me with information on your dog answering the following questions:

    Your dogs age:
Your dogs breed (or closest to it):
    Gender:

    April 19, 2024 03:40 PM      04:25 PM

This event began 03/21/2022 and repeats every week on Monday and Friday until 12/29/2024

    GUIDED MEDITATION (Yoga Nidra)
    MONDAY &  FRIDAY
    10:40 - 11:25 AM (45 min)
You are encouraged to bring a pillow and/or blanket, or whatever will bring the most comfort, as you will laying on the floor for the duration of the practice.
Come experience the style of Guided Meditation called "YOGA NIDRA."  Yoga Nidra is a systematic method of inducing complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation. The term Yoga Nidra is derived from two Sanskrit words: yoga meaning union or one-pointed awareness, and nidra which means sleep. During the practice of Yoga Nidra, one appears to be asleep, but the consciousness is functioning at a deeper level of awareness. In this threshold state between sleep and wake-fulness, contact with the subconscious and unconscious dimensions occurs spontaneously.
If the consciousness is able to be separated from external awareness and from sleep, it becomes very powerful and can be applied in many ways, for example, to develop the memory, increase knowledge and creativity, or transform one's nature. Yoga Nidra can be used for directing the mind to accomplish anything!
    R - E - L - A - X
Yoga Nidra is a powerful form of guided meditation in which one learns to relax consciously. People may feel that they are relaxing when they collapse in an easy chair with their favorite drink, watch Netflix, and/or scroll through their cell phone.  Yet this will never suffice as a scientific definition of relaxation. These are only sensory diversions. True relaxation is actually an experience far beyond all this. For absolute relaxation you must remain aware. This is Yoga Nidra, the state of dynamic sleep.
Through the practice of yoga nidra, we are not only relaxing, but restructuring and reforming from the inside- out. With every session we are burning old patterns, habits and tendencies in order to be born anew. This process is not only much quicker than other systems which work on an external basis only, but the results are also more reliable and permanent.
During Yoga Nidra you will become familiar with the variety of techniques that are used, including the following:
    CREATING A RESOLVE
This is a short, positive, powerful statement of one's personal choosing. It is found by going into the heart, and discovering the heart's desire.  This is an integral part of every practice, and is repeated at both the beginning and the end of the session.  It is said that the resolve that one makes during Yoga Nidra is bound to come true in one's life.
    ROTATION OF CONSCIOUSNESS
This is the progressive movement of awareness through parts of the body.  The neurosurgeon affects the body by stimulating the brain. The practitioner of Yoga Nidra begins at the other end of the nerve pathway, by heightening the awareness of the body in order to stimulate the brain.
This induces physical relaxation, and clears the nerve pathways to the brain, both those governing physical activity and those concerned with incoming information.  It truly is a 'cleaning' of the brain from the inside-out!
    BREATH AWARENESS
By practicing breath awareness, a state of sense withdrawal (pratyahara) and deep relaxation occur.  Deep relaxation has been shown to be an altered state of perception. Once this state has been induced, the guided image visualization proceeds.
    VISUALIZATION
Guided imagery in Yoga Nidra is a method of using a symbol (archetype) or image as a catalyst to provoke a reaction in the unconscious parts of the mind. The subconscious and unconscious material of the mind is awakened and released to become integrated into consciousness.

    • Community Christmas Party Hosted by Amigos de Boquete Comunidad
      By Moderator_02,
Marcelyn and I attended this fabulous Christmas Party at La Posada Restaurant this afternoon. Besides the usual Christmas season festivities, one purpose for this party was to collect Christmas gifts for the local children. There was no entrance fee, but attendees were asked to bring wrapped Christmas gifts for distribution by the local churches. Our estimate is that about 50 people were in attendance, and all enjoyed the fantastic music of a seven member mariachi band. What a great performance on their part; they were very good at getting the attendees involved by singing and dancing with them. La Posada had extra waitstaff to take care of drink and food orders. The party was in a large room at the rear of La Posada -- could not have been a better venue for this kind of gathering.
The party was planned and executed by a recently formed group of expats under the name of Amigos de Boquete Comunidad (ABC). Joe Hart and his wife, Linda, along with numerous volunteers put together this festive gathering. Our hats off to Joe, Linda, and all of their elves.
Here are a few pictures from this event:

    • ARF Thanksgiving Meal
      By Bud,
Marcelyn and I were participants in ARF's Thanksgiving Day event at the Animales Building. There was a LOT of VERY GOOD food, great conversations, visits with friends, etc. We estimate there were about 70 guests and maybe 15 worker-bees taking care of setting up, tending to the guests, etc. The background music was nice, and not so loud as to intrude into the conversations. The pecan pie was simply outstanding. Kudos to that chef! But I also do not want to take away from any of the other food items. I sampled all the food choices, and there was nothing to apologize for on that front.
An unexpected plus for us was that we finally got to meet Beth Abrahams (it is kind of a long story, don't ask).

      Beth Abrahams
We also got to catch up with all of the latest travels and happenings of our friends who were at our table. Met a few new people, etc.
There simply was nothing that we could fault (not our goal anyway). This is the way things should be done, and ARF did it with all of their wonderful volunteers. If someone found fault with something yesterday, then I would chalk them off as being a token curmudgeon.  Thank you ARF! GREAT JOB!!!!

Thank you to all who helped make yesterday's Thanksgiving Day celebration such a huge success, and special thanks to N&N:

I will close with: we all have a lot to be thankful for.

    • One Night in India
      By JudyS,
I think $55 for one person is a lot of money to spend on a dinner in Boquete.  I've never spent that much for an Indian dinner anywhere.
