  1. I had my account with Global completed and debit card in hand in less than two hours. One statement from my bank in the U.S.(emailed to me printed---acceptable), Ecedula, letter from my lawyer and character reference letter. Times have changed on opening an account. It is much easier now days. The english speaking woman at the bank advised me---do not open a checking account. So, I followed her advice and did the savings account with a debit card. I am so happy to have followed her advice. Very rarely do you see a Panamanian writing a check in a store. I have seen a few but not many. I don't know the numbers but I see Panamanians and foreigners using cash a lot. I use my card for grocery shopping and withdrawing cash (no charge). I deposit one check a month from the U.S. that cost me $10.70 for a foriegn deposit. Really simple bank. And, no minimum requirement in the account. I do some transers to other banks in Panama with their online system. It is easy and has never been a problem and no charge. They actually pay a dividend also!

  2. Really great store. We went just to look around and wound up buying travel stuff; two certified airline cabin bags,Nautica paid $170 (worth $560), a jacket paid $32 (worth $100) and some food. Eggs $1.09, cheeses are cheaper and many varieties. In the chest type freezer they had nice american steaks frozen. They have enough cashiers working that the wait time is nothing compared to other stores. So far for me, this store beats all the prices on name brand goods and groceries. Great location----PriceSmart and City Mall close to each other.

The other thing that is odd is it stated... "The service will be provided exclusively in the provinces of Panama Oeste, Panamá, Colón and Coclé, mainly for tourism promotion"

Why is Chiriqui not included since it certainly falls into the tourism category.

I talked with a yellow taxi driver in Boquete. He told me there are 2 Ubers in Boquete.

  4. Maybe they can catch the thieves with their hands in the cookie jar. At least that would be a start. And then, hold each province school administrator responsible. The school system here is in sad shape. It's all about politics, money and priorities. The biggest problem with all of Panama is CORRUPTION. At least the prosecutors in Panama City are over loaded with work under this administration "trying" to prosecute and get a handle on corruption.

  5. This seems like a huge project but it is not. Train routes are easier and quicker to build than super highways. As a matter of fact, they have been building these rail lines in Europe going from country to country for years through mountains and coastal areas. Japan and China do these projects with ease-----they are equipped and have the technology to get the job done. This line will be short compared to most rail lines in country to country travel. It will be under 500 miles to Costa Rica.

  6. I don't know what time my power went out in Boquete last night or early this morning but it came back on at 5:28am. I was in the new stadium last night. There was never a power outage. The inaugaration and game went well. You should have been there to enjoy the electricity and the game!!!!! We got home around midnight and had power in Boquete. There was a short delay with the sound system when the generators were activated in the new stadium. (Edited this morning when the wife got up with the real information) lololol

    CHIRIQUI 5 HERRERA 2

    The Generators worked well. lololololol
