untilTake-A-Hike has begun a Basic Hiking Group for those beginning hiking, out of condition or recovering from sickness or injury. Saturday November 6th we'll celebrate World Environment Day and leave at 8:00 AM sharp from Sabroson restaurant #1 and hike the Social Security loop. untilChange of plan - the road for Ricardo suffered massive flooding today. Therefore Wednesday October 20th we'll leave from the Feria and drive to the trailhead for the Palo Alto Trail. We haven't hiked this completely but it also appears to be a level 7 for distance and difficulty with moderate hills - and is a trail. There's limited parking at the trailhead. This is a 2 hour in/out hike over a gravel street and trail with substantial hilles, level 6 for distance, level 8 for difficulty, 4 miles, 9100 steps, 1800 feet vertical distance. untilFriday September 24th, in accordance with easier hikes, we'll leave at 8:00 AM from Ivan's market, drive to Caldera and hike to/from the Hot Spring. This is an easier 2 hour hike over trail-like gravel streets with slight hills. However it's quite hot (same temperature as David) so bring extra water. There's a beach with swimming and a petroglyph and other interesting sights. It may be muddy and there's a $5 entrance fee to the hot spring, although there's not always some there to collect it. Wear a bathing suit under your hiking clothes if you want to swim, as there is no changing room. The hike is rated 6 for distance and difficulty, 5.7 miles, 11,600 steps.
