  1. Every now and then I post this because many people from the north do not know about it. To unfog windows in your car turn on air conditioning AND heat, both at same time. Drys out car and you won't get cold. If you already know this then sorry for wasting your time :-) In Colorado we never did this cause it was either very cold or hot. chris
  2. OK well not exactly but it did turn spots of the ground white and it was frozen but unlike snow it hurt when it hit your head. You gussed it, it was hail, for about 8 min. I have heard of it happening before but it is very rare, in this area. It was fun to eat. This is pretty early for rainy season, the earliest I remember in 14 years of being here. My cows are loving it the grass is all green here that does not usually happen until end of May. We also had another pretty good shake yesterday around 12:20
  3. That was a shallow quake and as it was 19 km nne oof cerro punta. I wonder is old baru waking up :-). It was much stronger here in Caldera than the 6.? We had a few years ago. Stuff fell off the shelves.
  4. El Novilla Gordo is next door to the used car lot (Multimotors) as you come into David on the old road. In the past is was OK for their $8 lunch but their regular menu was not good expensive and overcooked. They have a new chef, not sure if it is a new owner but now they do a terrific lunch or dinner especially if you like meat. They have a $8 buffet that is very good includes chicken, salads, soup, vegies, rice and some things were terrific. However they have a $15 buffet (includes everything on the $8 buffet) that is kind of like a Brazillan Rodiaio. They bring out sizzling platters of different meats including smoked salmon and very rare steak. (you can let the steak cook to your desired doneness but remember very pink steak is tender) I loved it. It also included a beautiful chunk of salmon. They even let Lorraine order just the $8 and me the $15 she was happy, I knew they did not want me giving her huge chunks of meat. After a couple of platters I was full and what blew me away is that they let me take the left overs home. They also honor the jubliado discount. I hope they can continue because it is a great deal. This restaurant makes the trip to David not so unpleasant.
  5. Sorry http://www.ovsicori.una.ac.cr/ bud can you combine my messages. Sorry
  6. Costa Rica is showing it at mag 3.7 on highway 10 (bocas road) due east of caldera. They are just reporting one earthquake we felt two.
  7. We just had two very fast earthquakes here, one at about 8:23 and the next about 8:28. Both rattled the windows and shook the bed but very short about 3 seconds or less
  8. This tent has been used twice, 19 days total. It is in very good shape. New it costs $232.00, the rain fly cost $50 plus shipping (50lb) and tax the value is $382+ Asking $150 obo Tent: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B003QUT9OE/ref=olp_f_usedLikeNew?ie=UTF8&f_usedAcceptable=true&f_usedGood=true&f_usedVeryGood=true&m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ Rain Fly https://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Instant-Tent-Rainfly-10-Feet/dp/B00DVZFK9M/ref=pd_bxgy_468_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00DVZFK9M&pd_rd_r=ZSJCMYKMT6N4RN8FMJMD&pd_rd_w=JdEPV&pd_rd_wg=yXrsE&psc=1&refRID=ZSJCMYKMT6N4RN8FMJMD
  9. My daughters are on their sailboat in the San Blas Islands and report no rain last night, calm winds this morning, blue sky on the horizon. Yesterday top wind speed was 30 knots. The hurricane has moved north and seems to be collapsing. I think we might even have a sunny day here in caldera. www.sailingoneworld.com --my daughters boat.
  10. Maybe this has already been posted so sorry if it has. Copa Airlines used to allow you to take two 50lb bags with you on the David/Tocumen flights if you had an ongoing international ticket or if you arrived on an international flight, this was with any carrier. They have changed the rule, now they only allow the two bags if the David/Tocumen is part of a single itinerary. I think this means that you pretty much have to fly on Copa or a Copa partner, or pay for the extra bag about $22.

Art of the Didgeridoo at La Ville Cafe - BCP Theater Friday, September 16, 3 pm We are very excited to have Hubert and Willeke Pena talk about the art of the Didgeridoo. Huber builds and plays them and Willeke does the painting on them. They will talk about the origin of the didgeridoo in Australian aboriginal culture including its use in ceremonial gatherings as well as in recreation. The meaning of certain dance, painting, and music motifs in the early aboriginal culture with a brief discussion of "Song lines". They will discuss the method of traditional didgeridoo construction and how the modern didgeridoos have developed from that ie:types of materials used and the variety of decorations. An explanation of the didgeridoo sound will be presented, as well as a short performance. Several didgeridoos locally made from the agave stalks will be shown as well as a traditional didgeridoo from Australia Don't miss this meeting. It promises to be exceptional and different. Note: There will be an open board meeting at 2:15 all are welcome. Boquete Art Works www.boqueteartworks.com
  12. Bonnie I agree with you totally donating money to a charity you need to know what is going on! And what the charity is doing there are a lot of bad charities. Many charities here you have to give them stuff, if you give them money it seems to disappear. However if you buy a product for $10 do you ask the company what they are doing with your money? If Nancy and Narin are selling a product and they want to give all their money to charity it is their business, they are not asking you for a donation, they are selling you a product. If you went to lunch at Sugar and Spice, do you ask Sugar and Spice what they are doing with your money, gad maybe they are giving it to charity or some other illegal thing. Nancy and Narin are selling a product and unlike many other business they are telling you what they are going to do with THEIR MONEY. You are getting a product for YOUR MONEY. Also it is kind of insulting to Nancy and Narin whom I know and who have the highest integrity because your comment seems to question their integrity. Good people here should be supported not challenged. I give Nancy and Narin A LOT OF CREDIT for the good work they are doing!!! More of us should copy them, they are keeping busy doing something they love while helping other people!! Just my opinion. chris
  13. 30 years ago in Boulder, CO I was in a workshop, we had a challange to make money, enough for dinner. Our group (6 people) bought paper towels and window cleaner. We divided into groups of two and at an intersection with a stop light, washed peoples car windows. We made $80 profit in about 2 hours. We never asked for tips. It was fun.
  14. There is a new Novey Store on the super 99 road across from Electrica diagonal from the old super 99. The store looks small from the out side so we just passed it by for a couple of weeks. Went in the other day WOW! It is twice as big as the Novey by Reys. Has way more stuff. Better prices than a lot of stuff at do it center. Stop in and take a look. There are many more stores going into the shopping center. Traffic in that spot is all ready bad, in a few months when the rest of the stores open it is going to be ? Grid locked? Anyway just visiting the store was fun, to see the huge selection of stuff. 13 years ago you would not have been able to find more than half the stuff in the store anywhere in David. Make a right turn when you leave then, a block down there is a left turn lane, then go to the one way. Even in bad traffic it is not to bad. Not sure if it would be possible to make a left out of the shopping center and still live :-)
  15. Hi I was in alto boquete at the gas station and had my car filled up. The attended said that the charge was $40. Being old and slow it took me a minute or so to realize that my car could not possible hold $40 so I got out and looked at the pump, one pump said $29 the other $40. I went to the attendant who was making a receipt he immediately said he was sorry he had made a mistake and dug around for my correct $29 receipt. I did not take it any further because he could have made a mistake however I have had the exact same thing happen in mexico only caught it after I got the incorrect receipt and change. There is no charge or accusation here, I am posting this to just Be Alert! Mistakes can cost you money so pay attention. chris

Artist and People Interested in Art are Welcome Remember we have changed our meeting place and time to La Villa Cafe 3rd Friday of the month at 3pm. This month we will present: LATEST METHODS OF WORKING IN OIL AND COLD WAX with Robyn Cole Robyn will introduce us to the latest methods of working in oil and cold wax. Pellets of beeswax are mixed with natural solvents to create a "cold cream-like" consistency. This cold wax is then mixed by the artist with pigments (oil paint) to achieve a cake frosting-type of consistency. It's fun, sensual and joyous. Working in many layers with mark making tools (no brushes!), addition and subtraction techniques and multiple pigments produces results with texture and depth that cannot be duplicated in any other medium. ROBYN COLE: A CONTEMPORARY ARTIST As a painter in the contemporary and abstract style, I am a process artist. I invite people to experience the process of the work, to see every stroke, every color choice, every line. Process, materiality or physicality is what speaks to me. As a “mark maker”, I work in both the encaustic and the cold wax/oil paint mediums. The cold wax/oil paint process allows for more time to to explore, change and complete my message. I am allowed the freedom to try new techniques, to develop new directions. The cold wax process takes me on an elaborate, colorful journey.
  17. REMEBER EDGAR VARGAS WILL BE AT LA VILLA SUNDAY JUL 17.(tomorrow or today depending on when you see this) Sorry about shouting but it was so much fun the last two sundays, so I hope all of you will join us for great music starting pretty close to 4:23pm Edgars choice of time. I love watching and listening to him, he lives inside his music. When he is playing I am sure he is totally in his own world and pull us into it with him. See you there :-) Chris just another La Villa fan! PS $7 PSS if you are really new to Boquete La VIlla is in the hex room at the BCP Theater across from the fair grounds, just across the bridge.
  18. Do you love the beach, swimming in a calm ocean, amazing sunrises and sunsets, total privacy, a mile of gorgeous beach, tropical trees and gardens, private large swimming pool, fresh coconuts, great boogie boarding, falling asleep to the sound of the ocean? Do not mind living 11 km from the nearest store via a gravel/dirt road and are capable of doing a small amount of work and learning how to live with and manage off the grid solar systems? If you answered yes to most of the above questions then please read on. This incredible 3 bedroom, 4 bath house with Travertine and Italian marble floors has a huge deck with pool and is located on the ocean with a mile of private beach - fully furnished This house normally rents for $1000 a month, but now is in need of a caretaker, a reduction in the rent to $200 a month will offset the work. As caretaker you would have to look after the house, the pool and mow the grass - with a garden tractor. (several acres about 20 hours a month) The house is quite special. It is for sale and will be going up for auction in January. You would have to move if it is sold. If is should happen to sell before January, we would pay a moving bonus. This beach house is 5 min from Boca Chica turn off to its road then 11 km. The road is 30 min from David 1 hour from Boquete. It runs on solar energy with a generator. Gas for the generator would be your responsibility. An SUV type vehicle - 4x4 preferably, would be required to drive the 11 Km dirt and rock road. Internet is available through Activo at $58.85/month. Rent would be $200/month depending upon qualifications, Security /damage deposit required but can be paid over 3 months. Need to provide references. If you are interested please contact Lorraine Handler 6566-5564 larenhandler@icloud.com or Chris McCall 6137-5602 chrismccall@me.com

This event is canceled, Elsa at the library thinks it will ran and since this is outside under the porch she does not want it happening. The childrens class at 10am is still on. Chris
  21. Come learn to make Paper this Saturday June 18th or next Saturday June 25 both at 12 noon. The class lasts for about an hour. The class is held at the library. Stop by the library to register as we can only take about 15 people. The class is taught in Spanish and English. There is no charge to attend. We have been teaching children at the library how to make paper for the last two Saturdays. They have had so much fun and several of their parents have participated so we came up with the idea of opening the class up to adults. Saturday June 25th we will be making Japanese paper from Kozo bark and a little abaca (banana) This results in the thin crisp transparent paper know as rice paper. It is fun to make and a little slimy. If you want to come bring bric brac or tiny flowers or anything you think might look good in paper. The class is taught by Chris McCall and Lauren Handler of Black Rock Art Ranch with lots of help from Mary Ellen, Sharon, Tom, Cathy, and Steve. 5 w's
  22. I have such a hard time understanding why people who want to advertise something can not remember the 4 W's. WHERE is i think the most common W that is forgotten (but penny could probably tells us more accurately), business and restaurant owners must think they are really special and everyone knows where they are located. For example, I know it can get - 35% discount (what), for lunch in June (when), probably because business is slow (why). But I have no clue as to where except a name that resembles an Italian cheese. I guess I should go to Italy and start looking around. :-). Chris
  23. Marcelyn, maybe check your info, in Caldera the Corregidor is elected, however you are correct - most have never had an office and know very little about the law.
  24. So it's ok for guys to pee along any roadside or against almost any fence or wall or tree or just along side their car and not ok for women to breast feed in public? Huh?
