  1. Join Boquete Nature Hikes this Wednesday as, we hike the El Pianista nature rain forest trail. A hike for the avid advanced hiker. I am sending out a call challenging the intermediate hiker to join us as well. You can do it, I know you can. We meet at 8 A.M. in front of Sugar & Spice leaving at 8:05 car pooling to the trail head for a 5 plus hour of hike up to the continental divide. This will end our 5 week long hikes exploring the semi-rain forest and rain/cloud forest areas of Boquete. What to bring? Rain gear, water, snacks or light lunch, bug spray, camera, binocs. Wear long pants and long sleeves, bring your hiking sticks, I have some to loan out. Cerro Pianista is truly a beautiful natural cloud forest trail. We will see how the dry season has affected the Cerro Pianista. There is no need to RSVP - just show up. See you on the trail, Jere McCormick
  2. Thanks Bud for your comment and for enjoying my description about my hikes and also my photos. Many times the locals are not seen off the beaten path but, when they are around, I enjoy snapping photos of them, though, i always ask if this is okay. While hiking in the remote areas of Boquete, I enjoy capturing the lifestyle of the locals as well as the natural environment on camera. Sometimes a little retouching in Light Room is all that is needed, I do not use Photoshop.

This week's nature hike is only for intermediate to advanced hikers, although, we will be enjoying nature, taking photos, and spotting birds, the trail this week is scenic, off the beaten path and will be up and down in some area. Meeting at 8:30 A.M. in front of Sugar & Spice, car pooling at 8:35 to the ranger station high up in the highlands of our fair town to the Sendero Los Quetzales. If the range station is open, we will sign in, non-residents pay $5.00 - residents with jubilado card on them will pay $3.00. Exact change please. Join us as, we nature hike part of the beautiful Sendero Los Quetzales for 4 hours more or less. This week's hike is the 4th. in a series to explore Boquete's cloud forest during the final months of the dry season. What to pack - rain gear, cap/hat, bug spray, water, snack, hiking sticks, binocs and camera. Wear hiking boots and long pants. I have hiking sticks to loan out. Just show up not need to RSVP.   4. Boquete Nature Hikes meeting at Sugar & Spice on Wednesday at 8:30 A.M. Car pooling to 8:35 to the the trail head in Alto Jaramillo in a semi cloud forest. This hike is for intermediate to advanced hikers, so put on your hiking boots and get ready for a real nature hike on a private "off the beaten path" trail. Pack rain gear, cap/hat, bug spray, water, snack, camera and binocs. This is a nature hike, we will be looking for birds and listening for their call as well as searching for the unusual plant, mushroom and insects. Requirements to be in good health and able to hike for 3 hours at slight incline.     Join the Boquete Newcomer & Visitor Social Event Sunday March 20, 2016 at 5 P.M.at the Panamonte Hotel & Spa in their cozy Fireside Lounge for a one social meet & greet - followed by dinner at 6 P.M. Meet new acquaintances, make a new friend, share your experiences about living in Panama. Newcomers, visitors, Panama residents and Expats living in Panama are all welcome to join this social event.   7. We car pool to Lucero to go on an easy nature walk on a path along the water channel leading to the La Estrella/El Valle Represa (reservoir). We rest at the reservoir for awhile, then continue a bit more up a slope which is a an old seldom used country road that goes all the way to the town of Caldera. We won't walk to Caldera this time, as it is too hot, the stones are loose because it's to dry. At the beginning of the rainy season, I will organize a hike for the more advanced hikers in the group. We can lunch at Melissa's after. This Wednesday, we meet at 8:30 A.M. in the Plaza San Francisco parking lot, then at 8:35, we head for Lucero. Requirements: To be in good health and be able to keep up with the group. Pack water, bug spray, sunblock, hat/cap, a snack, hiking sticks, camera and rain gear. I have hiking sticks to loan out. This walk is a wonderful nature path. We may see Herons, Egrets, Hawks, water fowl, horses roaming the area and more. We do stop many times to take photos or to admire our beautiful surroundings.   8. Boquete Nature Hikes this Wednesday is for the intermediate / advanced hiker in the group so please join us for a wonderful nature hike in Boquete. This is our once a month advanced hike! Meeting at 8:30 a.M. in front of Sugar & Spice - leaving at 8:35 carpooling to the Highlands Cerro Horqueta and begin our "off the beaten path" 4 hour hike. We will hike in a semi-rain lush forest area where, I was able to capture a photograph of a double rainbow years back. A great area for nature lovers to walk in! Requirements: to be in good health and able to walk 3 + hours. Pack rain gear, cap/hat, bug spray, water, a snack, binocs and camera. This Wednesday will be great for beginners, nature lovers and for those who want to see more than Bajo Boquete. Along the our we, may see the local horses roaming and grazing, Egrets, Jacana, Herons and Hawks. Requirements: Must be in good health. Pack water, cap/hat, bug spray and camera.   11. Hiking "off the beaten path" and walking through a nature wonderland! That's what, the Boquete Nature Hikes will be doing this Wednesday. We meet in front of Sugar & Spice again at 8:30 A.M leaving at 8:35 as, then car pool to Bajo Mono to hiked the Cascada Escondida as the locals call it and/or as the gringos have named it The Pipeline Trail. On that morning, we may hear and see the Resplendent Quetzales as their season is beginning. Bring $3.00 for entry fee or if you have a jubilado card $1.50. Exact change please. This is one of the favorite trails in Boquete for birders. The trail is in shade, in semi-rain forest and the trail is marked. Cascada Escondida has some very old trees, one in particular dates back to 1,000 years. This hike will be run about 3 hours. Requirements, to be in good health. Pack water, snack, bug spray, cap/hat, binocs and your camera. Wear hiking boots and bring your hiking sticks (I have some to loan). Here are a few photos from the trail.   12. Boquete "EZ " Nature Hikes meeting in the Plaza San Francisco parking lot at 8:30 A.M.Carpooling at 8:35 to the beautiful highlands of Palmira Abajo for a 2-3 hour hike on a quiet country road. Requirements to be in good health and able to keep up with relatively slow walking nature group. Pack water, a snack, sunblock, bug spray, hat/cap and a camera for photo ops.   13. Join us this Wednesday for another nature adventure. Meeting at 8:30 A.M. in front of Sugar & Spice. At 8:35 we car pool to the Quiel Finca in Bajo Mono to hike on family farm with a trail that loops. The trail is uneven and rocky, on a beautiful hillside so will hike at a slight incline. It is advised to be in good health. Bring $3.00 for the entry fee. Join like-minded people, come out, enjoy nature and take photographs. No need to RSVP - just show up!   14. This EZ Wednesday Nature Hike will meet in the Plaza San Francisco parking lot at 8:15 A.M. At 8:20 we leave PSF carpooling to the sleepy town of Caldera, which is about a 20-30 minute drive. This is an enjoyable hike on a quiet country lane, "off the beaten path." This hike will take about 4 hours with two 15 min stops. Caldera is warmer then Boquete your attire is to dress lite - shorts are fine, BRING water, WEAR sunblock, pack cap/hat and a snack to give you energy. Requirements: To be in good health and able to walk a total of 9 km. We do not walk fast since this is a nature walk and we always stop to look and take in our surroundings and some take photos; nonetheless you still need to be able to keep with group. Bring $5.00, no twenties please, for entry fee. Pack swimwear to take a dip in the thermal springs with a place to change or the Rio Chiriqui (does not have a changing room.   15. This Wednesday a NEW twist to the usual EZ Wednesday Hike. This week our hike is more for the intemediate to advanced hikers in our group and we wil be hiking a NEW trail for many but, not for me. Meeting 8:30 A.M. in front of Sugar & Spice at 8:35 carpooling to the El Salto area down to the canyon and up into the Camiseta area passing the road that leads to the entrance of the Volca Baru. This hike will be around 4 hours - mas o menos. Requirements: be in good health. Also pack water and a snack, wear sunblock, hiking boots or gym shoes with very good outer sole treads, hiking sticks will come in handy on this hike and of course bring your camera.   16. EZ Wednesday Boquete Nature Hiking group will meet in the Plaza San Francisco parking lot at 8:30 A.M. Carpooling at 8:35 to the small town of Caldera. Caldera is known for it's thermal springs, petroglyphs and horse riding. Our hike will finish by 1 P.M. with two 15 minute rest stops in two areas during the hike. Nature walks are about slowing down to enjoy and take in the natural beauty surrounding us in this fast paced world we live in even in Panama. Bring $5.00 in singles for entry fee into Abuela Termal it may be less. Pack swimwear if you want to take a dip in the Termal (see photo). Since, we are carpooling a distance from Boquete give your driver a couple of dollars. Requirements: It is advised to be in good health. The trail is not very steep, mostly flat but, we are hiking for a good 4 hours. Pack hat/cap, sunblock, water, dress lite; Caldera is much warmer than Boquete, a snack, bring your camera and hiking sticks. I have to loan. No need to RSVP. See you on the trail.
  17. The nature walk this Wednesday is a very good hike for the beginner as well as the nature lover and photographer. Meeting in Alto Boquete October 28, 2015 at the Plaza San Francisco parking lot at 8:30 A.M. Carpooling 8:35 to the La Estrella area for a relaxing 3 hour nature walk and is mostly flat. We will see horses roaming the area, water birds and other natural wonders. Going on nature hikes can be relaxing, meditational and slow the urge to rush. So join us and meet like-minded people. Requirements: being in good health is advised. Pack rain gear, cap/hat, water, wear sunblock, hiking boots or gym shoes with very good outer sole treads. No need to RSVP just show up. On Friday November 6, 2015, please join us for the evening at Art Café, Boquete's only French style cuisine for an enjoyable time. Time: 6:00 P.M. Social Hour to meet, greet and mingle. Join us in the bar area. Dinner 7:00 P.M. in the colorful and cozy dining room. This is a time to ask your questions about living in Panama, to share experiences about life here and find out the scoop about life in Boquete.
