Nature hiking is not about rushing to the end, but more about looking at what surrounds you, relaxing and learning more about Boquete's natural beauty. We hike "Off the Beaten Path" it's the best way to hike and to take in nature. This Wednesday 11/29 is for the intermediate to advanced hiker. We’ll meet at the Boquete Library located in Bajo Boquete along the main road leading into town at 8:30 AM., carpooling from there to a side road off the Jaramillo loop (on the Hotel Oasis side). When we hike down this road and back, we’ll see Lucero and if we’re lucky may even see the Pacific. The road is called the La Estrella/ El Valle. It’s not too bad of a gravel road with lots of up and down but no extended periods of either. Lots of fun sites and good company. This is a gravel road so wearing shorts are fine, if you prefer. Bring water, raingear, bug spray, wear sunblock and a snack. Do what you feel comfortable with and come join the fun. See you on the trail. We meet at different locations twice a week. 6. Well it's been a busy month in Boquete with Panama's Patriotic Holidays. More is to come. Our mayor announced the last two weeks of the month including this weekend will be filled with many cultural events. Beginning this Friday or Saturday at 5 P.M. in the main park, we gringos have named Central Park located across from the Restaurante Baru. There will be of Tipico Folkloric Dancing groups from all over the country and from other Latin American countries with the women in their Polleras (traje tipico). This is not to be missed! Another event taking place this weekend on Sunday Boquete's own Cabalgata (horse parade) riding down main street and to top it off hundreds of bands marching in Boquete town probably happening on the 29th. which is Independence Day from Spain. Wow! How exciting is this. Remember to do all your shopping in the morning before 10 A.M. as there will be much traffic going into Bajo Boquete and in town, as well driving out of Bajo Boquete early evening and later. Enjoy Panama and it's culture.

The trail: A delightful flat for the most part, terrain is dirt (no slippery clay mud), we walk on asphalt for a short distance then back on dirt. Remember to pack rain gear. Meeting 8:30 A.M. on the Boquete Library square at 8:35 we carpool to the trailhead - Pipeline Trail. Our hike will be 2 plus hours. Please bring $3.00, exact change would be helpful for the worker collecting - this is the entry fee. This is another perfect area for nature buffs, birders and for the person who wants to do some exercise on that morning. It is part meadow, then the trail becomes a rainforest with the Rio Caldera gently flowing alongside the trail. We may not hear or see a Quetzal as, it is not yet the mating season, but then one never knows. There are many birds to spot on this trail so bring along binocs. We will also see the oldest tree in the area over 1000 years. This magnificent tree has survived at least one Volcan Baru eruption. So as you can tell there is much to see on this trail. Pack rain gear as well as water, a snack, binocs, camera and remember your hiking sticks. Wear long pants, hiking shoes or gym shoes with good outer sole treads. In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect. Trees can be contorted, bent in weird ways, and they're still beautiful - Alice Walker See you on the trail - Jere McCormick

Bring $3 dollars if, you are a Panama resident or $5.00 exact change please. Intermediate to advanced hikers will enjoy this hike as it has many slopes. the trailhead begins at almost 6,000 ft. At some point instead of continuing on the dirt/rock road we take a left and join the trail that immediately immerses us into the rainforest for about, we'll do this part for about 45 min. to an hour and head back. Pack rain gear. Include in that pack water, a snack, binocs, camera and remember your hiking sticks. Wear long pants, hiking shoes or gym shoes with good outer sole treads. See you on trail. 22. Looks like the makeshift bridge in Palo Alto down from the Tree Trek. That trail (isolated) goes through the rainforest and all the way to Bocas. At this time of the year the Rio Palo Alto is fierce.
