  5. WE NEED YOUR UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATER This holiday season, help ARF help the animals by asking your family and friends to make a donation to ARF in your name, rather than gifting you with one more knick-knack or ugly sweater. You can also make a gift donation for the people on your list. Stop by the ARF tent at the Tuesday market or contact us if you would like a complimentary holiday card which you may use to inform people of your gift. 100% of your donation goes to helping animals. We have no administrative costs. Every day our volunteers are working to make better lives for the animals in our area, but we can't do it without your help. Just say "No" to ugly sweaters and help us reach our goal. Remember, ARF is the only community based, all volunteer, non-profit rescue group in the Boquete area. Please share the link below with your family and friends. This holiday drive will help us meet our expenses for 2017 and give us a start into 2018. From all of us at ARF, we thank you and wish you and your furry friends the best. https://www.gofundme.com/8wxc35

  12. Recently the many volunteers for Amigos de Animales, the local spay/neuter clinic mounted a campaign to encourage folks to vote in the nation-wide "Heros For Panama" contest. There were 7 very worthwhile nominees. It was just announced last night that Pat Chan, founder of Spay Panama and the inspiration for the local spay/neuter clinic won this most prestigious award. Chan won with nearly 50% of the total votes cast. Chan's Spay Panama group has neutered over 145,000 animals as of last week. We are so proud of Pat Chan and her loyal volunteers who do so much for so little. An inspiration to us all. News.boquete was informed of the win by Sharon Bailey-Bok, former Boquete resident and Animales volunteer now living in Panama City with her husband Curtis Bok.

  15. The Boquete community is a generous and supportive group of people. A little over a week ago Penny Barrett sent out a request to the Boquete community asking for financial help for Buenos Vecinos de Boquete. The response to her SOS has been amazing! We have added 11 new Coconut Foundation members to our list in the last few days. A Coconut Foundation sponsor is someone who donates $360 to feed a family for a year. You can find the list of these generous sponsors on our website: http://www.buenosvecinosdeboquete.com/how-you-can-help We have also received smaller but equally important donations. No donation is too small and all are appreciated. As Penny said in her SOS all of the money we receive is spent buying non-perishable food items for our 120 clients every month. Half of our clients are also clients of FPI, Fundacion Pro-Integracion, also known as the Handicap Foundation. We are truly grateful for the donations which we have received in the last week and for the faithful donations that are given to us throughout the year. We would like to give a huge thank you to Penny Barrett for sending out the request for help and to the Boquete community for their generous response! Gratefully yours, The Buenos Vecinos de Boquete Team

  19. As this is only eight days away, I want to emphasize several things before folks start making appointments. The only two services offered are notarizations, passport renewals for minor children, and lost/stolen passport replacements. There will be NO adult passport renewals at this event. Adult passport renewals can be done by mail, via DHL, at Mailboxes, Etc. I believe a representative of Mailboxes will be at the event to guide you. There will be NO federal benefits services at this event. Federal benefits have been moved to the Costa Rica Embassy. This includes Social Security, Medicare, and Proof of Life issues. You MUST schedule an appointment. Payment can be made only by certified check, payable to "U.S. Embassy Panama" (exactly), for the exact amount of the service. Please read the Embassy notice carefully. Do not make an appointment if your need is for services not offered. If your need qualifies for this outreach and you obtain and appointment, be prepared. There will not be time to correct errors in paperwork. Bonnie Williams
