I need some support. Yesterday 8 cats were taken to the veterinarian in David. My time and gasoline is not a problem but I could use some support with the veterinary bills, needed medicine and special dietary food. Could you send a monthly donation for the care these cats need? After the vet visit, I delivered 4 bags of cat food to a feeding station in Las Lomas. I could use some support with the more than 35 bags of food needed every month to feed over 200 cats. Si prefiere recibir los correos electrónicos en español, haga clic aquí.   AMIGOS DE ANIMALES BOQUETE PANAMÁ SEPTEMBER 2023 NEWSLETTER   AUGUST CLINIC On Sunday August 27th, Amigos de Animales spayed or neutered 340 animals, 119 dogs, 216 cats and 5 rabbits(!) with six vets and one trainee working. It was the most cats we have ever done in a day, and within four animals of a record total. This Sunday we will surpass 3,000 animals for the year. 70% of the animals were female and 42% came from Boquete. 228 animals were brought in by owners and 112 came from collectors.   POTRERILLOS MINI-CLINIC On Sunday September 17th we took our van and about 25 volunteers to Potrerillos. We had 3 vets who spayed or neutered 124 animals - 62 dogs and 62 cats. This clinic was part of our Educational Outreach program. Raquel Coba, Cindy Clayton and other volunteers visited the Potrerillos schools and encouraged students to have their family pets spayed or neutered. A big thanks also to Sara Echenique and her daughter, Sol, who coordinated everything with the community and handled registrations.   EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PROGRAM UPDATE Our Educational Outreach program continues to grow! We raised over $1,700 at a fundraiser on September 16th at Mike's Global Grill. Our volunteer Petra Henriquez provided a painting bought by Wendy Burton for $500, and Petra's husband, Gabriel, and his band Power Trius performed. Thank you to everyone! We are working to enhance the students’ educational experience by providing classes on pet care, animal maintenance, and sterilization. We will also expand their access to reading books, read aloud to the students and by setting up school animal sterilization clinics at the schools, near the students’ homes. We have 2 main needs: Volunteers: we'd like to have 1 to 4 volunteers for each school so we can nurture and grow the experience for the children throughout the school year. There are many ways you can help, and Spanish skills are not needed. Financial: we are actively fundraising to be able to buy books and supplies for the Animales presentations, create bookcases and reading corners in classrooms, and to fund the Amigos de Animales school sterilization clinics. There is no better exercise for your heart and soul than reaching out and helping to lift a child. There are people throughout the Chiriqui Province that wish to sterilize their pets, but don’t have the time and/or transportation. I drive all over the province….places like Caldera, El Flor and Potrerillos….to pick up the animals in the morning, bring them to the spay and neuter clinic and then deliver them back in the afternoon. Why would you encourage others to volunteer here with AdA? Volunteering here is a way to make a positive difference in the lives of animals. I see a lot of animals that are suffering from neglect, abuse, heat, rain and lack of food. Sterilization minimizes the number of unwanted animals and their ability to keep multiplying. I like to be able to help the animals in need and minimize their suffering. After discovering one of the most beautiful roads in the district of Boquete, join the founders for an intimate tour of their goat farm. We start the tour by making cheese. We end the tour by sitting down to enjoy the same cheese that we made at the beginning, paired with warm baguettes and homemade lemonade.
