A basic knowledge of geology is a good thing to have, particularly in Boquete. Free caravan style geology field trips are now scheduled for January and February, beginning on January 3. All field trips meet at San Francisco Plaza and require cars and drivers willing to take a few extra riders.
The field trips are provided by Dr. Paul Myers, Emeritus faculty, University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. He is assisted on most trips by geologist Martita Stearns.
The first field trip schedule is as follows:
January 3. Beginner trip called Reading the Landscape. 8:30 – 1:30.
January 7: Surficial Processes. This is a new trip of the Caldera River Valley. It is recommended for those who have been on other trips and will focus on processes such as soil formation, landslides, mudflows, ashflows and floods. 8:30 – 1:30.
January 11: Beginner trip. Reading the Landscape. 8:30-1:30.
January 14: Baru Volcano – Debris Avalanche. 8:00 – 3:00 or later.

GENTLE YOGA
MONDAY thru FRIDAY 9:30 - 10:30 AM
5-Days a Week! A Gentle Yoga class that encourages breath & body-awareness, as we blend traditional poses with conscious movement. Great for beginners, or those who prefer a more relaxed, mindful style. Options are given and requests are encouraged.
Each class is tailored to the group's needs. This is done in the spirit of yoga as a healing practice, where asanas (poses) are given for various conditions (ie, back pain, tight shoulders, etc.) Yoga works in subtle and profound ways. The more you listen your body’s needs... and the more supportive and deep your practice will become. Results include increased strength, flexibility, balance, & enhanced overall well being.
Overall, the goal is simple: To Feel Good! Strengthen, stretch, and smile your way into the day.
Instructor: Joy Alexander
(Language: English)

TAI-CHI & QI-GONG
TUESDAY 12:30 PM The class consists of two parts;
Form (Tai-chi)
This is a flowing sequence of movements, lasting from 5 to 20 minutes. The Form very effectively develops physical skill and health and constitutes a very enjoyable kind of moving meditation. Each movement can be practised at increasing levels of depth as the student develops. Students learn the Beijing 24-Step Short Form. This highly enjoyable form is the basis of the beginners’ course, providing a strong foundation.
Qi-gong
Qigong is the foundation of Tai Chi, wherein the student learns to move their body and feel their internal energy (Qi), through simple, relatively static movements, and the use of the will (Yi) to guide the energy as it flows through its natural channels (known as Jing Luo, or meridians).
Students learn a variety of easy but highly effective Qigong exercises, primarily from the famous Eight Pieces of Silk Brocade sequence and 28-Step Qigong set, as well as Standing Stake meditation. Instructor: Mounir Afkir

Community Christmas Party Hosted by Amigos de Boquete Comunidad
By Moderator_02,
The party was planned and executed by a recently formed group of expats under the name of Amigos de Boquete Comunidad (ABC). Joe Hart and his wife, Linda, along with numerous volunteers put together this festive gathering. Our hats off to Joe, Linda, and all of their elves.
Here are a few pictures from this event:

ARF Thanksgiving Meal
By Bud,
An unexpected plus for us was that we finally got to meet Beth Abrahams (it is kind of a long story, don't ask).
Beth Abrahams
We also got to catch up with all of the latest travels and happenings of our friends who were at our table. Met a few new people, etc.
There simply was nothing that we could fault (not our goal anyway). This is the way things should be done, and ARF did it with all of their wonderful volunteers. If someone found fault with something yesterday, then I would chalk them off as being a token curmudgeon. Thank you ARF! GREAT JOB!!!!
Thank you to all who helped make yesterday's Thanksgiving Day celebration such a huge success, and special thanks to N&N:
I will close with: we all have a lot to be thankful for.
