Keith Woolford
There is currently a nation wide campaign by ATTT Inspectors to remove expired Plates from vehicles and tow if necessary. Six members of the Policia Nacional in David were caught by surprise today when Inspectors entered the Cuartel and found their cars to have expired tags. The Plates get returned to the Municipality of issuance and the only way the guilty party is able to get his vehicle released back is by straightening up with the Muni. beforehand. Whskyman
Scenario .... your car tags are expired, but you have a letter from Dolega (where registered), citing that they do not have your new plates and that your old tags are valid until a specific date? Said letter is visible in the front windshield. Any thoughts??

The vehicle can be operated as long as the Permiso de Circulacion is up to date.
Whskyman
Ok - Thanks Keith. That's what I believed. I thought from the original post, that they were just towing vehicles based upon the expired tag (not basing it upon actual paperwork). Keith Woolford
It is a good idea to also carry the Receipt from the Municipality showing that the Placa has been paid,

Repeat offenders could have their vehicles towed. Among the first crop of offenders were drivers, using 2017 and 2018 plates.
