Julian

This pup is about 4-5 months old and was dumped by his owner on the side of the road near Wilson Bridge and left to die.

One of our volunteers was driving by and saw this all pan out and stopped to speak with the man to find out what was going on.  He did not care.  The dog was sick and he had no interest in helping it.

Julian was immediately taken to a vet and given an examination, vitamin shots and placed with La Casa de los Animales for recovery.  He had a test done for Distemper and the results were negative but Julian is, however, exhibiting slight symptoms of Distemper, so he will be re-tested in one week.

Distemper is a viral disease, which affects the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and central nervous systems in dogs. The canine distemper virus (CDV) causes the disease. It is highly contagious to other dogs, and is often fatal.  Dogs between the ages of 3 and 6 months are most susceptible.  The only way to prevent this disease is to have your animal protected by vaccination.

The good news is that he has a very healthy appetite.  One of the initial symptoms of Distemper is lack of appetite and also a fever – which he also does not have, so we are crossing our fingers for this little one.

We are in the process of gathering information on the “owner” of this dog and will determine the next necessary steps.

If you would like to help with the expenses for Julian or any of the other animals we have to provide for (currently 28 dogs and 8 cats), please visit our website at http://www.arf-boquete.com/donate.html.  No amount is too small.  Thank you.

When I came across this puppy, he was curled in a ball, unable to even lift his head. The owner said he was sick and he could not pay a vet, so he put him out at the street. Not only is he sick but he was starving as well. I brought him to my house and offered him a little cat food, as that's all I had. While he could not stand up, he literally gobbled down the food I gave him. After less than a day of nutritious food and care at casa de Los animals, the video attached shows how he was finally able to get up on his wobbly legs. It's clear that this puppy, while sick, is able to eat but was not fed. If in fact he does have distemper, at least he was not left to die starving at the side of the road in the rain.

ARF and it's volunteers are wonderful caring people who respect all animals and they work very hard.  You cannot imagine the horrors they have witnessed.  They are currently experiencing a "slow down" in adoptions and have a surplus of animals to place.  If you can adopt or foster an animal please let them know.  Donations and support of their fund raisers is the only source of income for this charity so please be as generous with your time and/or money as you can be.
