RT
Moderator comment: This topic was split out of a different topic (see http://www.chiriqui.life/topic/1743-health-care-resources-of-the-chiriqui-province/?do=findComment&comment=16926) on 13 May 2017 because the subject transitioned from health care resources to insurance. Great list [referring here to the health care resource listing], does anyone have information on Hospitals/clinics and doctors that will accept payments directly from the insurance companies? Bonnie
Both hospitals will accept payments directly from SOME insurance companies, but not all. My experience has been that doctors' fees are rolled into the bill that is the result of hospitalization. I don't know about outpatient visits because I've never met the deductible on my plan, which is with Worldwide Medical Assurance.
JohnF13
I am with Worldwide too. On a 3 day stay in Mae Lewis everything was covered ( never saw a bill) except Dr. Anguizola's fees. I had to pay him directly, but WWM paid me back quickly. Seems that some individual doctors are not in the plan so you have to adjust.
TwoSailors
Glad to hear another good report on World Wide. We just signed up with them through our insurance agent ,Destresno Insurance.
Joyful
We're looking into switching to Worldwide Medical. Can anyone provide any details of their "In network" doctors and hospitals in Panama? What happens if you go "Out of network"?
JohnF13
WorldWide deals with two hospitals in David, Chiriqui and Mae Lewis. You can likely get anything you need at either of those places, but for more advanced stuff they use a top hospital in Panama City (Cant remember the name). There is also a very wide coverage around the World (hence the name I guess) if you are travelling. If you need something really specialised, then they will likely have a hospital somewhere that covers it. Best thing to do is check with the agents for the most up to date info. Either Magda Crespo in San Francisco plaza or Gloria Destrenoso (sp?) in David.
TwoSailors
The hospital in PC is Punta Pacifica. World Wide as well as covering you any where in the world also covers you in the US up to 30 days. Gloria Detresno is first class and great to deal with! http://www.detresnoinsurance.com/about-us--our-services.html
Bonnie
It's my understanding that Worldwide Medical reimburses or pays at Panama rates, regardless of where you may be in the world. This information came from a Keep It Simple Panama presentation at a Tuesday meeting. While WWM is a great plan here, it might not go far in places like the U.S. I had three hospitalization experiences with Worldwide when my husband was ill. Like John, we never saw the hospital bills because Worldwide paid them directly, no questions asked. If I remember correctly, there were one or two doctors whom we had to pay directly, but we were reimbursed in a matter of weeks.
