Keith Woolford
There is a new Funeral Home in Alto Boquete, called the Funeraria Virgen de Guadalupe. It's located on the east side of the Via Boquete highway about a kilometer north of the Pro-Integration Foundation and new Policlinica. This building has been under construction for years, and the second floor is not totally closed in, but they're open for business. The sign says cremation services are offered. Bonnie
It will be interesting to see if their services are less expensive, as fast, and as comprehensive as those of El Retiro in David. The major expense at El Retiro was transportation of the body to Panama City for cremation. Unless this new funeral home can beat that cost substantially, it will have difficulty distinguishing itself because the service at El Retiro was flawless, as both Judy and I can attest. JudyS
They say they have cremation services, which might mean they take the body to Panama City or to the new crematorium in David. This place doesn't look like it has a crematorium. There is usually a chimney involved.
Bonnie
The crematorium in David has not opened and may not ever open. There are protests against it on the basis of air polution.
Keith Woolford
The Alto Boquete site seems to be a second location. Yellow Pages lists a Funeraria Virgen de Guadalupe in David on Av. Obaldia with the same number. Quote http://www.paginasamarillas.com.pa/empresas/funeraria-virgen-de-guadalupe/david-16746304 Nexdu lists the David location as being behind Hospital Obaldia in Varital. The conclusion appears that being close to a hospital makes business sense for these folks. He has been delayed time and again in getting all the permits and the protests. He is confident that he will have the final go ahead soon and then he will come and speak at the Tuesday Talks at BCP

Jose Arias just emailed me that they are now open in David and his prices for a cremation run from $800 to $1300 depending on the type of urn. Bonnie
This will be a big savings because the transportation of the body to PC for cremation cost me $600. The cremation itself was $1100, and the funeral home charged $175.
