JudyS Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Is this it? " A striking South American lanternfly (Phosphora lanternaria). The enlarged head extension mimics the head of a small alligator. Of course, this is not an example of automimicry. Some authorities have suggested that the reptilian head may ward off an attack by potential predators of this plant-eating insect. Brundageba Posted May 28, 2016 Author Posted May 28, 2016 I located a study done at Berkley entitled "Living Lights". This critter apparently is reported to be luminescent. The part that glows is (get this) the head ! As well in that same study it has been reported to sting...like kill people, cattle. They are also called latern flies. All the information was n Ch 9 of the study. Some reports are of a fire-like luminescence like flames and other reports are of a glow that is bluish..purple. That THAT'S really weird. Quote
Brundageba Posted May 28, 2016 Author Posted May 28, 2016 Information I found was in ch 9 of the study. Quote
