  1. I've been making my own English muffins for a couple of years now using the recipe below. The process to make them takes a couple of days, letting the starter work and rising time, but your hands on time is minimal. They're better than any packaged English muffin and I estimate they cost less than a dollar for twelve. They also freeze wonderfully.

One good reason is if there's an outage within the ATM network.  In October of 2013 there was a one week outage where ATM machines in Panama couldn't access banks outside the country.  It's well documented here:

I use Multibank too, no charge for depositing US checks up to $3,000 every 15 business days.

Yes this had happened to us a couple of times so we are now careful not to run completely out of cash. We've also experienced the ATM not dispensing cash to us and having the funds deducted from our account. One call to Schwab and they credited our account the same day.

  3. I need a new radiator cap. I've been trying for two weeks to check the auto part store on main Street but it's been closed every time I'm there. A fellow told he thought they were out of business. I thought there was a second store somewhere in town but for the life of me, I can't remember where. If not in Boquete, where's the next nearest one?

  4. I stopped in to this place today and spoke with the owner. They carry Royal Canin cat food in adult, hairball and kitten formulas. While not my favorite brand, it's not a bad food and better than anything else available in town. It appeared to be the only brand they had. So I told the owner that if she keeps it stocked, I will buy exclusively from her shop. She assured me they will not let it become sold out. I sure hope so but time will tell.

  5. Seasons pizza is exceptional. The best I've had in the area. I dislike overly cheesy and sauced pizza which Is all I can find in town. I like a rustic crust and theirs is delicious. I've also had one of the Thai dishes which was super spicy and tasty. The servce was outstanding. Friendly and attentive. Couldn't care less about the steps but, if one has difficulty managing stairs, it could be an issue. My only complaint? The cost of the wine! We would have loved to order a bottle but anything we would have ordered was $65 or over. From memory, I think most of the bottles were well over $80 and into the hundreds. When I asked about it, the server said that they had a sommelier who had chosen the wine and set the prices however she was no longer working there. I don't think that was a really rational answer and, until the prices come down on the wine, we won't be ordering any. This also means that we'll probably only go for lunch since we usually enjoy wine with dinner.

  6. Great to see both AaC numbers posted Bob. The issue of the correct numbers being available is certainly not "moot," despite whether a service is available or not. As you can see below, I dialed both AaC Numbers correctly, but both had the same message saying there was a system error and pointed me to the other number, so it must have been simultaneous issues with both carriers as you said. Hopefully you don't think me "presumptive" for inquiring about this service, often requested of friends and neighbors, in addition to police and possibly military (not sure about that one,) and know that  I would never assume that all would understand any of my "jargon" regardless of the topic.

    I appreciate your follow up.

    ..which prompts the questions...

Are Health and Welfare checks on the well-being of an individual a service that either Alto Al Crimen or RodnyDirect provide ..or should they be?

Good question. I would imagine that since I can use them to talk to the cop who's trying to give me a ticket and pretending he doesn't understand my spanish, that they would. To me it seems like a more urgent situation. That being said, Policia refused to go, so would they for Rodney or AaC?  I'll try to find out and post back.

Still puzzled by the term 'welfare check'. In Canada it is a payment of financial assistance.

A welfare check is when someone checks on the welfare of another to be sure they are ok. I was worried about someone who I had been unable to reach for quite a while. After not being able to reach AaC, I called the policia directly and they refused to go. I finally got our taxi driver to go over for me. It was an unusual situation since most of our friends are in the US right now, as are we, and apparently many other's phones were out. It was the perfect storm for a panic situation.

Wouldn't it be a welfare cheque in canada ;)

  9. Bob, I called both numbers receiving the same message. I called the 6662 number first and received a message that was not clear so I could not understand the alternate number. Checked the website, only the 6662 number was listed. Searched on CL and found the alternate 0011 number. Got another message pointing me to call the 6662 number. In my haste, I typed 3 but it was 2.

My takeaway is the both numbers should be listed on the AaC website. And perhaps there should be a back up number with another provider for just this scenario.

    Thanks for the follow up.
