  1. Hi all, ARF is a very small organization in Boquete dedicated to helping the lost, abused, neglected and abandoned animals in our community. We are in desperate need of fosters for the animals that we try to help and are seeking your assistance. When you foster for ARF, we cover all expenses - food - medication - vet visits etc. We just need the support of the community in letting these animals have a place to feel safe and secure for a while until they can find a forever home. Most of the dogs we rescue test positive for tick fever. This requires a treatment from anywhere from 15-21 days of medication. Tick fever is the norm these days for the rescues we have, and I encourage any of you who have dogs to please have your animals blood tested if you do not use tick prevention and research the signs of this deadly virus. We have been advised by a local vet that Tick Fever is now rampant in Panama. Please use prevention in the form of Front Line or some other tick deterrent. There are also natural remedies available. We recently rescued "Alex" who was hit by a car in front of Ivan's. Please see his story below: "Alex was hit by a car on September 29thand wandered over to a nearby house. These people have generously offered to look after him. ARF took him to the vet to have his leg examined, and thankfully it was not broken, but a very bad sprain that will take some time to heal. He was given painkillers, a vitamin shot, de-wormer and anti-biotics as he also has a urinary tract infection. Alex was the most cooperative patient I have ever seen! Not even a flinch when he was given his shots and even though this guy must have been feeling miserable and in quite a bit of pain, he still had a very loving and gentle disposition. Alex is about 2 years old. We believe he has an owner as he did have a collar on, but no one has come forward as of yet." If you can help towards Alex's medical expenses, it would be greatly appreciated. We are trying to keep up with the demands of the animals that need help, but we are really just keeping our heads above the water at this point. If you would like to donate, please visit out website at are-boquete.com to help.

  3. Hello all, We are in urgent need of a temporary foster home for Linda. She is an older, very mellow dog. Her current foster has to leave for a family emergency and will be gone approximately 3 weeks. When you foster for ARF, we provide the food, medication, etc. All you need to do is provide a bit of love, and a safe place for our friends to lay their head. Please contact me on arf.boquete@gmail.com if you can help. 4. Hello everyone! For August, the amount of the monthly donations were $920.00 and expenses totaled $1,412.00. Thank you to everyone who contributed! 3 dogs and 4 cats found their forever home this month….we are so happy for these furries! If you have any friends or relatives looking for a pet, please direct them to our site or have them contact us, as we have many ready for adoption. Please consider fostering an animal if you are able to do so. When you foster an animal with ARF, we take care of all food and medical expenses – we just need you to provide a loving and protective environment. If you are not in the position to foster an animal, please consider making a donation. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Events: Our Pancake Breakfast/Adoption Day at the Animales Building – Saturday, October 1st 9:00am-11:30am. The menu includes pancakes, bacon, fruit, coffee, tea and the necessary accompaniments (butter, syrup, etc.) Bloody Mary’s, Mimosas and Juice will be available for purchase. Protect your furry friends – an unplanned escape is always possible! Shopping Party – This is planned for November 30th at Mike’s Global Grill…..just in time to get started on your Christmas shopping. Details will be announced shortly. 6. ARF is having a pancake breakfast on Saturday, October 1st from 9:00am to 11:30am. $10 includes a stack of pancakes, butter, syrup, bacon, fruit and tea or coffee. Juice, Mimosas and Bloody Mary's are also available for purchase. This will be held at the Animales building in Alto Boquete. Mr. Dog with be there with lots of items for your pets......bones, collars, leashes, shampoos, carriers, kennels, beds, outfits and more. He will also have available his engraving machine so you can get an ID tag for your pet if you do not already have one (did you know it is a requirement of the Animal Law 70 in Panama that your domestic animal have a tag, with at least a number to call in case they are found wandering?) Protect your furry friend, and get a tag for him if you don't already have one. Too many animals, that are obviously owned, are found wandering the streets because somehow they managed to escape but they have no ID tag, so there is no way to contact the owner and get them home. We will also have on display many of our dogs and cats that are ready and available for adoption, so if you are looking to add a family member, this would be a great opportunity to come by and meet them. Tickets can be purchased from the ARF tent at the Tuesday market and Mailboxes Etc.......tickets go on sale Tuesday, September 6th. 7. Chomba is a seven year old female that belonged to an elderly lady who passed away. She is ready to be adopted and will lose her foster home at the end of November when they return to the States. Chomba is very playful and can be an inside or outside dog. She grew up around other dog and cats and is a very friendly girl. 9. This is Abuela. She is approximately 7 years old and has been spayed. We do not know her story, as she simply “showed up” on someone’s doorstep one day. It is very obvious that for most of her life she was probably on a short chain. Her “elbows” and rear show signs that she was made to sit on a hard surface for long periods of time. Abuela has been tested positive for tick fever, so she will need to be on medication for 3 weeks. She has a very sweet disposition and just wants to be loved. Abuela is a large dog, approximately 70 pounds. When you foster an animal for ARF, all food, medication and vet care is paid for by ARF. 11. Hi Judy, yes, possibly a mix but no way of knowing without DNA test.
  12. This beautiful dog is looking for a good home. The woman currently looking after him has this to say about him: "I live in Potrerillos. There is a beautiful, friendly, loving German Shepard in the neighborhood with bright blue eyes who needs a forever home. His owner barely made it out of the hospital 2 or 3 months ago. His health is in very poor condition and he has had to move into an apartment in David to be closer to the hospital. Unfortunately, the owner could not bring Sanatra with him. Therefore Sanatra is looking for a new home Sanatra gets along very well with my dog and he tolerates my cats. Sanatra has a great disposition." This woman would like to keep Sanatra, however, she cannot afford the additional cost for food, so in the meantime, until we can find him a good home, ARF will be providing food. If you are interested in providing a home or food for Sanatra, please contact us. If you are interested and would like to participate, please visit our site in the volunteer section and complete a form. And of course, we need……FOSTERS, FOSTERS, FOSTERS! In Memoriam - TIKO: Last but not least, our thoughts go out to Beth Abrahams, one of our dedicated volunteers, who sadly lost her beloved Tiko this month to acute Pancreatitis. 14. Onyx loves to play with other dogs. He knows "sit" and walks on a leash well. He will be 4 months old Aug. 30 and has been neutered. He is a confident little dog, not skittish, and not aggressive. He is learning how to be a "guard dog" from the other two dogs in his foster family. Onyx likes to be independent during the daytime, but likes a little lap time in the evening.....though he is getting big for that now! Onyx is a sweet boy, nice personality. Part Pitbull, part Lab, and pure Panamanian. Rudy Delgado Rudy is around 7-9 months old, medium to small sized shepherd mix. He loves being around people and other dogs and is extremely friendly and loving. He enjoys playing with toys and especially likes having something to chew on. He will be an excellent watch dog, as he is already barking and alerting when something is amiss. He is semi-house trained, as he sleeps inside at night without a crate and has no accidents. He would make a great companion dog for someone who has an active lifestyle or a wonderful companion for another dog.
  15. Hi all, we are in need of a temporary foster for this dog. He has been wandering the streets near The Rock for some time now. A nice couple has offered to feed him, and help to build trust with us humans.....he is coming along but still a bit skittish. He is a beautiful dog, just in need of a little TLC. He will need the typical "clean up", vet check and possibly medication and/or supplements, which will be provided by ARF. If you think you have the patience, and love to offer this boy, please contact us. 17. This sweet girl is looking for a foster home until she is ready for adoption. She is being treated for an infection right now (tablets in food), and we are hoping she will be ready to be spayed the end of July. She is currently tied up outside her owner's home, and we are looking for a foster home where she can be comfortable while healing. The owner has agreed to surrender her for adoption. If you can offer this girl a temporary spot, please contact us by email on arf.boquete@gmail.com.
  18. These three beautiful female puppies are looking for their forever home. If interested in adopting, please contact us on arf.boquete@gmail.com ARF is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the abandoned, abused and neglected animals in Boquete and surrounding areas. If you would like to help us help them please visit our website at arf-boquete.com to donate.
  19. This girl was abandoned by her owners and is now roaming her neighborhood seeking attention. Lady is lucky enough to have run in to a kind lady who had her spayed and de-wormed and is feeding her on a temporary basis. She is a bit shy and timid, but that's understandable. She previously had a place to call home, and now that is gone, so she's probably a bit confused. She barks at strange noises which would make for a good watch dog. She is about a year old, and is just looking for someone to love her. Contact ARF at arf.boquete@gmail.com if you are interested in meeting her.

  23. Samuel is ready for his new home As you may know from previous updates, Samuel had a long way to go to his recovery. He was rescued in David by a good Samaritan who found him on the streets with an injured leg, probably from a car accident. She was a very kind woman, but did not have the knowledge nor the money to help Samuel get better. So about a month later, on December 26th, she contacted a friend who contacted the current foster. His leg turned out to be heavily infected (bone and tissue). He also was skinny and had tick fever on top of that. His leg was amputated because the bone turned out to be too brittle to attach any surgical steel to. The healing process went steady but slow because of the tick fever (low resistance). But, on April 7th, he was ready to start with the doxicicline to treat his tick fever and on April 28th, he was given a clean bill of health. After visiting the Spay/neuter clinic in May in Boquete, he is now SO ready for his new home. He needs a nice big fenced garden to run in (yes, he runs fast even though he only has 3 legs) and get rid of all his energy. He will be a good watchdog. He is young, about 1.5 years and has had all his vaccinations. Can you give Samuel a forever home, or do you know someone that might want to adopt him? You can meet him tomorrow at the BCP after 10.30, or contact ARF for a meet-and-greet any other day/time with this affectionate, energetic tripod. Photos: Samuel on December 26th and now (June 2016)
  24. Thursday, June 23 at La Villa Café, BCP 1:00pm. ARF is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the abandoned, abused and neglected animals in Boquete and surrounding areas. Please help us support them, and at the same time have a great time and maybe even win a few $$$$. The more people who attend the bigger the cash prizes!!!
  25. Hi all. Again, we are appealing to the Boquete community for help in finding some temporary homes for some of our rescues. Buddy, the pup pictured below currently has a case of Kennel Cough, which is very contagious to other dogs, so he needs to be placed in a home with no other dogs. We also have 6 cats that we are trying to find temporary homes for- (pictures not available) range in age from very young to a few years old. Please contact us on arf.boquete@gmail.com if you think you might be able to help. If you would like to help us continue our work in rescuing, treating, and finding homes for the abandoned and neglected pets in the area, please visit our website to make a donation. Any help is appreciated. http://www.arf-boquete.com/donate.html
