  1. Our weekly matinee films start at 1pm at The Fènix Cafe - which is a restaurant, so please, don't bring outside food and drinks to the event. Rather, support our film series by patronizing the Cafe, and be sure to say hello to Joy Alexander, the owner of the Fénix Cafe, and Ana, her helper. Breakfast, lunch, popcorn and desserts - as well as coffee, espresso drinks, herbal teas, lemonade, beer, wine and mixed drinks - will be available for purchase. Early birds get the comfy sofas, but if you like, you can bring cushions for the hard restaurant chairs, or folding/camp chairs for more comfort. There is no admission charge, but we ask for voluntary donations to support the program and help pay for the video system. Upcoming films (we will send out details for each movie the week before the screening): - Due to a setback of four days with no internet due to a lightning strike near my house, I will finish my selection, and send out the list of upcoming films tomorrow (Saturday). ----------------------------------------------- This week's film: Waking Ned Devine (1998 Irish Comedy - 91 minutes) Rated PG Thanks to Penny Barret for suggesting this film, a perfect bit of comic relief that is a great change of pace after several weeks of more serious films. Waking Ned Devine is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Set in Ireland, and filmed on the Isle of Man, it is particularly fitting for many of us in Boquete, because a lot of the characters are senior citizens. Please join us for a couple of hours of great fun. Link to trailer From RogerEbert.com: Jackie O'Shea (Ian Bannen) and Michael O'Sullivan (David Kelly) hasten to Ned's cottage, to find him seated in front of the television set, clutching the winning ticket--and dead. The winnings, they are astounded to learn, are not several hundred thousand pounds, as they had assumed, but nearly 7 million pounds. A fortune! Alas, since Ned Devine is dead, the money will be recycled back into the kitty for next week's drawing. Right? Not on your life. Jackie and Michael hatch a plan to fool the visiting official from Dublin, who after all has never laid eyes on Ned in his life (few have, outside of Tullymore). Michael will impersonate Ned. The whole town will of course have to be in on the scheme, and so Jackie and Michael draw up an agreement in which their friends and neighbors will join in the deception and share in the prize. "Waking Ned Devine" opens with the news that someone in the Irish hamlet of Tullymore (population 53--uh, 52) has won the National Lottery. Who could it be? The locals, who have lived in one another's pockets for years, snoop and gossip, and seize upon the slightest deviation from habit as proof that someone expects a windfall. But there are no leads, and finally in desperation a chicken supper is held, at which the winner will perhaps be revealed. No luck. But one person doesn't attend the dinner: Ned Devine.

  8. Hi Everyone, I have been an acupuncturist for more than 20 years and have worked in Boquete for 14 years and have treated thousands of clients from all over the world. If you are in pain or have a particular health condition and are wondering if it can be helped by acupuncture please feel free to give me a call on 6948 6664 or email me at mark@boquetemassage.com I am the owner of the Isla Verde Spa in downtown Boquete I will give you a FREE consultation to let you know if I can help you or not. My fees for acupuncture are $30 per session Here are just a couple of reviews for you to take a look at: Expert Acupuncture--Second to None! Tripadvisor, 5 STARS "As I prepared to leave Boquete on a long trip, my lower back chose not to be part of the process! Sudden, sharp pain from a chronic disc condition made the mere thought of sitting for long periods on buses and in airplanes unbearable. Enter Mark Perren-Jones at Isla Verde Spa, a well-respected and often-referred-to practitioner of acupuncture. Mark made time for me in his busy schedule. His painless placement of needles, combined with specific deep-tissue massage, helped resolve my lower back pain. I don't know if I could have made the trip without Mark's expertise. If you are visiting Boquete, keep Mark's number at Isla Verde Spa handy. He's a gifted holistic practitioner and good for whatever ails you!" Great healing effects of Acupuncture with Mark, Tripadvisor 5 STARS "I have a debilitating spinal conditions the has kelp me in pain and handicapped on a continual bases. I had been seeing a Dr. who treated me with shots and then opiates only to give me temporary pain relief alone with the addictive side effects. After my first and now second session with Mark, my pain has been reduced to virtually non existence. I'm actually functioning again like a normal old man instead a crippled old man. I feel great." Acupuncture with Mark, Tripadvisor 5 STARS "After suffering with intense foot pain for the past year and trying cortisone shots with no relief back home, I visited Mark when I arrive here to see if he thought acupuncture would help. This was after a foot specialist and a GP told me that it would not. Mark advised me to try 3 sessions within 1 week and to go from there. These 3 helped a lot, so I am continuing with a weekly regime along with exercises he recommended. I am finally pain free! This is not the first time I have worked with Mark, but usually it was for back pain. He is extremely knowledgable and a delight to work with." Stiff Neck, Tripadvisor 5 STARS "Mark of Isla Verde Spa is my go to guy for all my back, neck and shoulder problems. Mark has done wonders for a shoulder problem I had, so naturally when I could hardly turn my head, he was the one I chose to see for treatment and relief. I had a total of 4 treatments of massage, heat pad and acupuncture. I can not express fully my appreciation for Mark restoring me to a neck fee of pain. The visits were in a warm, soothing atmosphere. Mark always seems to know just where I hurt, without me having to tell him. I truly can not overstate the care and attention I receive there. I am so glad that this service is available to me. My wife and I also so look forward to the massages available there also." Isla Verde Spa, Winner Certificate Of Excellence Tripadvisor -- Kind regards, Mark

  15. Jim Seltzer's pets were left homeless after his death, including JJ, a well-behaved neutered male Yellow Lab. Believing we could provide a good home we took him in, but we now realize that we cannot meet his needs properly. Our property is not fenced, so we can't leave him outside unsupervised, and the two daily walks we think he needs exceed our mobility-impaired capacities. He is a delightful creature, well-trained and gentle. Jim Bondoux - 6839-9421 or bondoux@pobox.com
