A funds collection called "Techo" (Roof), which is organized in Panama by a foundation of the same name, will take place to meet the goal of raising $ 50,000 for the construction of an "emergency housing" project, aimed at people with limited resources and facing poverty, their promoters said today.

The "Institutional Campaign 2018 Who, if not you?" aims to encourage Panamanians to be agents of change in the face of poverty in the country, which according to the 2017 Multidimensional Poverty Index of Panama, cited by Fundación Techo, affects 19.1 percent of the population (777,752 people).

From August 16 to 19, the Techo Collection will be developed in streets and shopping centers of Panama City, with more than 1,500 young volunteers who will gather in the corners and high points of the capital.

They will seek with this support to achieve the goal of raising $ 50,000 for the construction of emergency housing and other community infrastructure projects.

Frency Franzí, director general of Techo Panama, said in this NGO "we want to contribute to the construction of a fair, equal, integrated and poverty-free society in which all people can fully exercise their rights and duties".

For this, according to Franzí, thousands of young volunteers work with determination jointly with the residents of the settlements and with the support of companies and other institutions, which, he said, "with this campaign, we want all Panamanians to recognize their role in this challenge".

He stressed "students at schools and universities will take to the streets to demonstrate their commitment to a fairer Panama without poverty, encouraging others, like them, to become agents of change".

Techo is a civil society organization present in 19 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, which seeks to overcome the situation of poverty that thousands of families face in communities living in situations of vulnerability, through the joint action of residents and young volunteers.

It has been present in Panama since 2010, having built 920 homes, carried out more than 15 community infrastructure projects and mobilized more than 15,000 volunteers together with the communities with which it works hand in hand, according to the Foundation's statement.
