Locations of Nurseries
Gordon Bakke replied to Uncle Doug's topic in Gardening, Landscaping, Agriculture
Lulu's on the right side of the main drag in David heading towards Concepcion. There are two more nurseries on the inter-americana, in San Pablo - half-way to concepcion. One is near the "ostrich" restaurant, Nueva Barranca. Of course there is the MIDA nursery in Concepcion. You turn left off of via Volcan just before Azteka Restaurante. One nice one in Volcan at the Mercado. Janson's Nursery near the airstrip & lagunas in Volcan. -
"So excited to be able to get my favorite US products here in Panama. I moved here specifically so I could pay a small add on fee to get my Campbell's Tomato Soup and Bob's Butt Wipes. Please order me a pallet of each. And also if you can get some me some of those cream filled golden cake thingys, I'll take those too. Oh, and some squirty cheese in can. Do you take checks? Please add a couple boxes of Cocoa Pebbles cereal too. Ok, that's it. Thanks. PS. If you happen to come across some Chef Boyardee Cheese Ravioli, can you get me a few cans? I don't like the meat one though, I'm vegetarian. Only the cheese kind."

Just as I suspected, this site has now become primarily the home of posts relating to how to buy, sell, & trade 9" pie tins and such. Nothing against the newly appointed moderator, but half of the blog posts currently listed are by her or the lovely Ambreen. Tick-tock...

No, the GMO fishfarm is in the Boquete area. There is a trout farm just up the hill from Volcan, in Bambito, but I think they just farm rainbow trout. Frankly, I'm surprised that this decision was finally made after so many years of back-and-forth between Aquabounty and the FDA - it just seemed to be one of those decisions that was put off for political reasons. It'll be interesting to see if these fish make it into local markets. I think it unlikely that any of these fish have yet been sold commercially in Panama. "AquaBounty estimates it will take several years before its fish hits the market, because the company needs to develop facilities to produce the salmon and begin raising them." Further, I think that beyond the approval to raise these fish in Panama, they would also need approval here for domestic consumption.

The most important roadway in Panama is the inter-american highway. Recently, the eastbound span over the Rio Piedra near Concepcion was finally opened to little fanfare. This was the second time in the past 10 years that half of this bridge was not usable. I had been wondering how long these latest repairs had taken when I re-discovered today an article in Lee Zeltzer's Boquete guide. Four years. FOUR YEARS. Thanks heaven the other side held. http://www.boqueteguide.com/?p=7120

A Poem Leads to Comments About Bad Words

Damn, glad I'm not the one who has to sort all these posts out according to topic. One of the MOST interesting things about the old .ning in my opinion is that so often things went crazily off-course. To each their own.... -

I mostly agree with you. Still, I was a bit surprised like Judy that the rules pertaining to language are apparently more strict on CL than on BN. Language buffers seem to be built in. At least I now know that my use of the word "poop" will not be tampered with. :-) Personally, I'm hoping that the pooping Ruta Sur will be completed. -

Unfair? Why? And why the use of an exclamation mark? THIS is the kind of thing that you find upsetting? George Carlin's comedy bit about the seven "terrible" words dates back to 1972. 43 years ago. -

Words, by themselves are not really smut, they are just words - words you can hear on a ton of TV broadcasts, in casual conversation, etc. But, whatever..... BTW, is there a list of verbotten words? Can we, for example, use words like screw or poop, or are these too offensive as well? -

Lynnie has been singing this song for a long time. The truth is that anyone who knows Keith, or has used his services can attest to how helpful he has been. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. My opinion is, that if you polled people who have done business with Keith, you would likely find some pretty happy people. Go ahead, Lynnie - call me a pain in the ass again. -

"Even when (or if) up and running as intended, it will be no more than a way station on the path to a real hospital." I tend to agree with this. The "hospital" is, as of now, only open during daytime hours. Waiting rooms filled with young women & their babies. Doctors are on a rotating basis, so you will never be certain which doctors are available. Lab work, such as urine samples, needed for a diagnosis can only be submitted sometime before 8 A.M. On the other hand, if emergencies that require a certain level of stabilization are required (fluids, for example) this can be offered, as can pharmaceuticals at a reduced price. The cost of seeing a doctor here is almost nothing.

Who, in the frick is Bob Hunter, anyway? Does anyone in Boquete know this guy? -
On nearly a daily basis, sometimes more often, the same small group of people (you can count them on one hand) feel obligated to defend the new .ning owners/moderators on that site. Previous to the new owners taking over, these folks had pretty much never posted on or made their presence known. One person, who claims to have been a friend of Lee Zeltzer's even goes so far as to make statements that are basically exactly the same as the moderators have made in defending their actions. There's something wrong with this picture....

There used to be a "new content" button at the top of the page. Is this now being done automatically, or...?
